Enobaria throws a knife at Johanna. I wasted no time and as she was about to throw a knife at me, I loaded my bow and shot her in the heart. A cannon fires. I look back at Johanna and the knife is coming out of the left side of her stomach. The wound is too deep. She isn't going to make it.
"Katniss go," she says to me. "Go save yourself."
"I can't leave you," I say.
"Yes you can. Go fight. Win. Go home to Peeta. We got you this far. You need to do the rest on your own," she says and her eyes close and a cannon fire. Johanna is gone.
They got me this far? What does that mean? I know what it means. Peeta got them to agree to protect me.
Another cannon fires. I leave Johanna and run to the lightning tree. I run as fast as I can.
When I arrive I find Beetee laying on his back. He is dead. There are four of us left. I don't see Finnick or Haymitch anywhere. I don't even know if Brutus or one of them killed Beetee. Surely it was Brutus considering Enobaria attacked me and Johanna. I don't see him either.
As I am looking around I hear someone running towards me.
"Katniss run! Get out of here," I hear a panicked Finnick say as he comes into sight. I don't run far. I hide in the plants where I can see Finnick. He was warning me. Protecting me.
Brutus caught up with Finnick and is now standing in the clearing with him. Both have their weapons raised, ready to attack.
Brutus takes his knife and runs at Finnick. Finnick manages to block it but he loses his balance, drops his trident, and falls to the ground. Fear sets in on his face as Brutus approaches him. He tries to move but he is backed up against a tree. He is cornered.
"Goodbye Annie," Finnick calls out. "I love you!"
Brutus takes his knife and stabs Finnick right in the stomach. A cannon fires and Finnick's body falls the rest of the way to the ground.
"No!" I say and immediately, I regret it. Brutus looks around. He knows I am here and is looking for me.
When he turns around and his back is facing me I quickly but quietly load my bow and send an arrow into his back. A cannon fires and he drops to the ground. That's when Haymitch runs into the clearing. I come out of my hiding place.
"It's just you and me sweetheart," he says and he takes out his knife.
"Haymitch no!" I say and I run and hug him. He hugs me back. After a few seconds he pushes me away.
"Katniss, there is only one winner," he says and stabs himself in the heart. He falls to the ground.
A cannon fires and Claudius Templesmith's voice says, "May I present the victor of the 75th annual Hunger Games and third Quarter Quell, Katniss Everdeen."
