We've been back from the ski lodge for a few days now, Jiro had us practicing every day, we have a new gig on Friday. Shiketsu is holding a dance for the start of a new semester and they hired us for the gig.
We happened to have a day off, finally, and I'm going to take Maki on her first driving lesson.
My mom smiled as I made my way to the door, "Going to see Maki?"
I nodded, shoving my wallet in my back pocket, "I'm going to teach her how to drive."
Dad raised a brow, "You are? Why isn't her father teaching her?"
I sighed, "She gets too anxious with him and he reacts like grandma did the first time I took her for a drive, way too dramatic."
He nodded, "I see, well, please be careful."
I waved as I walked out and made my way to pick Maki. I laughed as I pulled up. She stood on the curb with a biking helmet on.
"Why?" I asked as she climbed in.
She shrugged, "Safety first."
I rolled my eyes, "You're being dramatic."
She shook her head and gave me the cutest pout, "I'm being safe, I want to keep my brains in my skull."
I smiled, "Alright, show it to me."
She raised her brow, adorably confused, "Show what?"
I shrugged, "My courage, we can't take off without it."
She smiled, digging into her pocket, "It's here!"
She held out my yellow puff star, I wanted to pull her in for a kiss but I don't want to risk her accidentally headbutting me with that helmet.
I sighed and drove to an empty lot. I switched sides with her, "Alright, adjust the seat and mirrors for your height, you are shorter than me."
She glared at me, "I'm not short."
I shrugged, "Shorter than me."
She rolled her eyes, "You're also a giant."
I couldn't help but laugh, "I'm of average height for a guy my age."
She grabbed the wheel tightly, "Come on, let's get this done and over with!"
I couldn't stop laughing, she's so cute when she's flustered and frustrated.
She undid her seatbelt, "Okay, I want to go home."
I reached out to her, hugging her tightly, "Oh, my Buzzy, I'm sorry, you're so cute! I can't help but tease you."
She sighed, "Okay, I'm ready."
I lightly kissed her soft cheek, "Okay, so, check all mirrors, and make sure you can see."
She nodded, "Check."
"Foot on the brake and start the car."
"Check."
"Put the car in 'Drive' and slowly ease your foot off of the brake and give it a little bit of gas but don't…"
Before I could finish my sentence, she sped forward and slammed on the brakes, jerking us both.
I heard her sniffle, "Buzzy?"
She shook her head, a tear falling, "I hate this. I don't want to do this."
I put the car in park and reached for her hand, "My love, it's okay, we're both okay. You can do this, it becomes so easy once you're used to it."
She sighed, "Do I have to do this?"
I shrugged, "You don't have to do anything you don't want to do but it's good to learn."
She took a few deep breathes and grabbed the wheel again, "Okay, I can do this."
I nodded, "Yes, you can, just remember, slow off the brake, gentle on the gas."
She put the car in drive and slowly lurched forward. I smiled, "There ya go, good job my Buzzy."
She drove slowly for a little bit and then tried going a little faster. She put too much pressure and she slammed on the brake, harder than before.
I jerked forward, harshly, hitting my head on the dash. I leaned back, groaning, crap that really hurt.
"Denki! I'm so sorry! Are you okay? Denki?"
She reached for me and I felt the car moving. I looked up, she didn't have either hand on the wheel, "Maki, the wheel!"
I scared her by shouting, making her hesitate. I grabbed the wheel turning it so we would hit a tree, "Maki, foot on the brake!"
She slammed her foot on the brake again, jerking me forward again.
I moved the car into the park again. I sat back in my seat and rubbed my head, it hurts.
Maki sniffled some more and I heard her seatbelt click and she was out of the car.
I grabbed the keys from the ignition and got out, chasing her, "Maki! Are you okay?"
She yanked the helmet off of her, tears falling down her face, "I'm sorry, I-I'm so… I'm so sorry."
I grabbed her, pulling her into a tight hug, "Hey, don't cry Buzzy, we're both okay. I'm okay, you did good… up until you panicked."
She cried into my chest, "Denki, I could've hurt you."
I shook my head, "But you didn't, I'm okay."
"You hit your head."
I nodded, "I know but it didn't hurt that bad, I have a pretty thick skull."
She laughed, "Stop, I don't want to laugh."
I pulled away, wiping her tears, "But I love your laugh. Buzzy, I'm okay. We can try again, you just have to be more careful and not so heavy on the foot."
She shook her head, "No, I'm not getting back in the driver seat."
I sighed, "Come on, Buzzy, you can do this. I know you can. Driving is something you're gonna have to learn eventually."
She shrugged, "Why? Dad can drive me, you can, there are taxis', ride shares."
I ran my fingers through my hair, "Buzzy, I love driving you around but there are going to be times where your dad and I are going to be busy and can't drive you."
She nodded, "I know, meaning during those times I won't go anywhere."
I wrapped my arms around her, "Maki, I love you."
"I love you too," She mumbled in my chest, "But I'm not getting behind the wheel."
It took me an hour to convince her to try again. This time ended the same way the last two did but I convinced her to try one more time. This time was the lucky charm. A few touch and go moments but a lot better. I figured out, all I need to do is reach out to her, a hand on her knee, arm around the back of the seat and she was calmer.
After a few laps around the parking lot, I felt like it was time to try parking.
She didn't do so well. She hates this.
We called it quits after a few tries. She looked like she was going to burn my car… it's cute but I can't afford a new car.
I sighed as she threw her helmet in the back, "Do you feel any more comfortable?"
She shook her head and crossed her arms over her chest, the cutest pout on her face, "No. It's terrible. I hate it. I never want to do it again."
I smiled at her cuteness, "So, we'll be trying again tomorrow night?"
She nodded but continued her silent pout.
Before I pulled away, my phone rang.
"Heyo! Denki we're having a guys' night at Todoroki's, you coming?"
I glanced over at Maki, looking for approval, she shrugged, still pouting, "Sure, I'm down, when?"
"Probably an hour or two, I think Todoroki is blackmailing his dad into buying us all dinner."
I laughed, "Alright, text me and I'll head over."
I tossed my down, "Want me to take you home?"
She nodded, still pouting.
I rolled my eyes, "How long are you going to sit there like that?"
She shrugged.
"Are you gonna respond?"
She shrugged, again.
I sighed and drove to the nearest place that sold fries, "This should make you better."
She immediately lit up as we got out, "All is forgiven!"
I raised a brow, "Forgiven?"
She nodded, "That was terrible and you made me do it."
I rolled my eyes and threw my arm over her shoulders, holding her close, "Someone had to. You gotta learn to drive."
I ordered her a large fry which seemed to make her happy again. She had a huge smile on her face the entire time. Man, I can't get enough of that smile. It warms my heart every time.
When I got her back home, her dad gave me a nervous smile, "Well? How'd it go?"
I shook my head as Maki threw her arms in the air, "I swear! You people are trying to kill me by making me drive. Do you have a death wish on the poor town folk?"
Mio shrugged from the couch, "Yeah, have you seen all the people that live here? Survival of the fittest."
Her dad sighed, "So, no progress?"
I shrugged, "She's really good at going forward… I can't say she stays straight but at least she's moving."
Mio shook her head, "I don't know why you try."
I heard my phone go off, "Okay, Buzzy, I'm out, I'll call you later."
She nodded, "Have a good time."
I kissed the top of her head before heading out.
It seemed like almost all of the guys came to Todoroki's. Deku and Kirishima sat on the couch playing some game, Bakugo, Todoroki, and Iida were eating at the table, Tokoyami was reading, and Sero and Mineta were huddled up in a corner.
I pulled up a seat next to Todoroki, "What brought up the hangout?"
Kirishima leaned over the couch, "Ever since you all got girlfriends we never hang out."
Todoroki shrugged, "You're one of the ones with a girlfriend, Kirishima."
Tokoyami nodded, "That's calling the kettle, black."
Sero sat back, "Man! You guys are so lucky, Deku is with Ochako, Tokoyami is with Kendo, Kirishima is with Jiro, Denki's with Maki, and Bakugo's with Mio."
Bakugo glared, slamming his hand on the table, "I'm not with Mio!"
We all shrugged, "You're with Mio."
"NO, I'M NOT!"
Sero sighed, "Man, even Bakugo has a girl and I don't, how do you even choose a chick?"
I tried to hold back the laughter as Bakugo fumed.
Iida shrugged, "I'm no expert but I would assume you find one you have something in common with and talk to her."
"Or," Mineta held up a piece of paper, "You can pick through a list of attributes, I have our whole class here and it's ranked."
Deku snatched the list, examining it.
Iida, getting curious, looked over Deku's shoulder, "Mineta, I assume you would like to live to see tomorrow."
Mineta nodded.
Deku shook his head, "Then we probably shouldn't let Kacchan and Denki see this."
Todoroki shrugged, "Let them. Mineta deserves what he gets."
Bakugo and I glanced at each other before both reaching for the list. Deku moved away from Bakugo but he didn't see me and I was able to snatch the paper:
Class 3A Girls
Mina Ashido- Great Legs
Toru Hakagure- Best Personality
Momo Yaoyorozu- Richest
Jiro Kyoka- One of the dudes
Ochako Uraraka- Best curves
Tsuyu Asui- Best eyes
Mio Kagayaku- Best Ass
Maki Kagayaku- Best rack
I blinked a few times, trying to process this list. 'Maki Kagayaku, best rack.' I mean… He's not wrong but still.
I glared at him as Bakugo snatched the paper from me, "Mineta, why is your creepy ass looking at my girlfriend like that?"
Mineta shrugged, "Because she's a beautiful specimen."
I want to punch him.
Bakugo growled.
But, I don't have to.
Kirishima grabbed the list and shook his head, "So not manly dude."
Sero moved away from Mineta, "You might want to run."
Mineta looked confused.
Bakugo stood from the table, I could feel his anger radiating from him. He took a step toward Mineta.
Todoroki shook his head, "Please don't break anything in my house."
Bakugo continued to seethe as he moved closer to Mineta, "I'll take it outside."
Kirishima smiled, "You know, if you beat Mineta up, we're all going to assume we were right about you and Mio."
Bakugo hesitated before continuing to grab Mineta and tossing him outside.
I shrugged, "Well, he didn't punch him."
Bakugo sat back down beside me, "I should've." He whispered.
Deku let out a nervous laugh, "Man, that was intense."
Kirishima nodded, "Right, we should change the subject… I know, if you could have any superpower, what would it be?"
Deku smiled, "That's a good one."
Kirishima smiled, "Right?! I'd wanna be able to take any hit that came to me! Like a rock, harden so I don't take as much damage!"
Iida shrugged, "I'd like to be fast."
Tokoyami shrugged, not looking up from his book, "The power to control darkness."
Sero smiled, "I'd wanna catch the bad guy! You know, like Spider-Man! But not a web, that'd be gross."
Todoroki shook his head, thinking, "I'd probably want either fire or ice, but I'll probably lean more to ice if I couldn't have both."
I shrugged, "I'd probably want an electrifying power! Like lightning or something!"
Deku laughed, "That fits you. I think I'd want strength!"
Kirishima looked over to Bakugo, "What about you?"
Bakugo is still fuming.
He'd probably have explosive power.
As they all continued to talk to, I took out my phone, texting Maki:
Me: I miss you ?
Buzzy: Having fun?
Me: Mineta almost died but other than that, yeah.
Buzzy: What did he do now?
Me: Just being a perv, you know
Buzzy: Well, enjoy the night, I love you.
Me: I love you too, my Buzzy Beautiful Sunshine Nugget
I smiled as I tucked my phone away, "Alright, I'm playing winner next round!" I said as I moved to the couch.
