Mio and Bakugo were acting weird for days, they were still riding to school together but it seemed they weren't really talking or hanging out at school and during practice, she stays in the house saying she has homework. I tried to ask her what was up but she wouldn't talk about it. She wasn't shutting me out but she was keeping me at a distance.
Jiro had us practice every day, she wants our last shows together to be great. And when we weren't practicing together, she was working with Denki to improve his chord progressions.
Today is our only break so far so Denki and I decided to go out, just the two of us.
He took me back to our bookstore in search of the last Harry Potter book and we were in luck, there was only one left.
I smiled as he paid, "You now have the full Harry Potter series."
His eyes held excitement, "I can't wait! I have to know what happens next!"
I felt a little bad, he doesn't know some of the more heartbreaking scenes of this book, but I can't spoil anything.
When we got back to the car, he sighed, "Okay, book, check, now, let's go get you some potatoes."
My mouth watered, "I can't wait."
"Did you want to go to the park or back to my house?" He asked as he drove.
I shrugged, "Let's go back to your house, cuddle as I read to you."
He nodded, "Got it… hey, wanna drive back?"
I playfully glared, "Just because I passed my driving test, barely, I might add, doesn't mean I'm going to suddenly enjoy driving."
Denki somehow managed to teach me to drive… I'm hardly any good at it but I somehow was given a license to drive… that instructor really had no regard for human life.
Denki laughed, "Oh come on, you're not that bad. Just avoid backing up around pedestrians."
I rolled my eyes, "I'm not sharing my fries with you."
A pout formed on his face, "But it was a joke."
I shrugged, "Should've thought before you spoke, you really are your mothers' child."
His jaw dropped, "Ouch, someone is sassy tonight."
I giggled, "I'm just teasing you."
We grabbed our food and made our way to his house. Emi and Daisuke are out of town for some car show so they won't be back until tomorrow night.
Denki laid down, stealing one of my fries, "Are you excited to play in front of all your dads' coworkers?"
I shrugged, "I'm okay with it. I think I've gotten comfortable in front of a crowd. Besides, I always have your courage with me."
He smiled.
As we ate, I started the last book, glaring every now and then when Denki stole a fry.
Denki sighed as tossed our trash in his wastebasket, "Man, it feels so nice to relax."
I nodded, crawling top on top of him, "It does, we rehearse a lot and when we're not rehearsing you're still taking extra lessons with Jiro."
He wrapped his arms around my waist, "Awe, my Buzzy Beautiful Sunshine Nugget, did you miss me?"
I nuzzled in closer, "I did, I missed you so much."
He rolled over, pinning me down, "Is there anything I could do to make it better?"
I wrapped my legs around his waist, a smile on my face, "There's a thing or two."
He smiled before kissing my lips, "I love you."
His lips went directly for my soft spot, making me moan, "I love you, Denki."
I felt his hand wander under my shirt, "We don't have to."
I tangled my fingers in his hair, "I want to."
He sat up, smirking, "If you insist, my beautiful."
Denki was just as gentle, just as wonderful as last time and he was even more loving. His kisses were deeper, more passionate.
He held me after, his warmth coddling me to sleep.
Sleeping in the same bed was more intimate and way more comfortable.
I didn't dream but I rested peacefully.
"Buzzy! We gotta get up! Come on! Wake up!"
I was startled as Denki climbed out of bed, pulling his clothes on, falling over, "Buzzy, we slept too long! I gotta get you home! Your dad is gonna kill me."
I reached over and grabbed his phone, checking the time. It's ten minutes to curfew. Crap!
I stood, trying to pick my clothes.
Denki handed me his sweater, "Here, just pull this on, I can take you the rest of your clothes later. We have to go."
I nodded, pulling my shorts and the sweater on.
We ran out to his car and drove as quickly as we could to my house.
Denki cursed as he drove, keeping under the speed limit but still trying to get me home before nine. I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little scared.
When we pulled up, we ran up to the door, Denki smiled, "We got here with one minute to spare."
We walked in and dad was standing in front of the stairs, eyes on his watch, "Cutting it close, aren't we, young Kaminari?"
Denki let out a breath, "I'm sorry sir, we fell asleep watching a movie."
"What movie?"
Denki's eyes glanced at me, "Uhh, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire."
"What was the last scene you remember?"
"Harry was trying to rescue more than one person underwater and the sirens didn't want to let him."
Dad nodded, "And were your parents' home?"
Denki shook his head, "No, sir, they won't be home until late."
Dad took a deep breath, "Good job, son, you could've lied to me just now and you didn't."
Denki shrugged, "I wouldn't dream of lying to you sir."
Dad made his way back to his recliner, "Say goodnight, you two, you guys have a long day tomorrow."
Tomorrow is the last day we have to practice for the policeman's ball. We're going to school and coming straight home for a last-minute rehearsal then we're going to pack everything up to take them to the party hall Saturday.
Denki walked me to my room and sighed, "Oh man, that was a close one."
I wrapped my arms around him, "We may have cut it close but I wouldn't change it."
His jaw dropped, "Maki, you perv, did you use me for a good time?"
"Maybe."
He let out a laugh, "Okay, I'll be here in the morning to pick you up."
I nodded, lightly kissing his lips, "Let me know when you are home, I love you."
He smiled, "I love you too, Buzzy Beautiful Sunshine Nugget."
I watched him walk out and sighed. That date night was surely needed. I've missed him.
The next day, Mio was gone by the time Denki picked me up and she beat us to school.
The class went by quickly, thankfully.
I made my way out to Denki's car to wait for him as he caught up with Jiro to talk to her about some issues he's having.
I tossed my things in his car and was about to get in but Mio caught my eye.
I watched her walk off campus, passing Bakugo who leaned on his car, and she made her way down the road we took when we'd walk home.
I raised my brow. She's walking home?
Bakugo glanced back at her before sighing and getting into his car.
"Ready, Buzzy?"
I nodded, getting in the car, racking my brain as to why Mio isn't riding with Bakugo.
Bakugo beat us to the studio and Mio wasn't home yet.
I decided to wait in her room to talk to her.
She didn't look happy when she saw me, "Shouldn't you be rehearsing?"
I shrugged, "Denki's talking with Jiro about something, I'll join them later."
She nodded, tossing her things down, "Well, I have some important things to do."
I raised my brow, "Like what?"
She pulled her headphones out and laid in bed, "A nap."
I rolled my eyes and sat beside her, "What's going on with you?"
She shrugged, laying back, "I haven't the faintest idea what you are talking about. You should get back in with the band. You wouldn't want to be unprepared for dads' friends, would you?"
"Mio," I glared at her, "You don't like it when I hide things, it must be a twin thing because I don't like it either. Now, be honest. What's going on with you and Bakugo? Why'd you walked home today? How long have you been walking? Did you guys have a fight? Why haven't you told me anything?"
She blinked a few times but didn't answer.
"Well?" I pushed.
She shook her head, "Never moonlight as an interrogator, you're terrible at it. You didn't even give me a chance to answer a single one of those questions."
I nodded, "Okay, what's going on with you and Bakugo?"
"Not answering it."
"Why'd you walk home?"
"Next question."
"How long have you been walking home?"
"Next."
"Did you guys have a fight?"
"Nope."
"No, you didn't or no, you're not answering?"
"Not answering."
I sighed, "Why aren't you telling me anything?"
"That I can answer." She shrugged, "I don't want to."
I rolled my eyes, "Please, just talk to me."
She shook her head, "No, I'm working through something. I'd prefer to keep it to myself."
"But I'm your sister… I'm your twin sister, I literally shared a womb with you."
She shrugged, "And that gives you a right to know my personal things?"
I nodded, "Kinda."
She took a deep breath, "Look, Maki, I know you just want to help and I know you mean well and I'm being stubborn but this is something I need, a little space, a little time."
I grabbed her hand, squeezing, "Are you sure?"
She nodded, "I am."
I pulled away, reluctantly making my way to the back.
Bakugo and Tokoyami were sitting outside by the van, talking. I raised my brow, "What's going on?"
Tokoyami sighed, "Denki and Jiro are working and Bakugo kept making unnecessary noise and it got both of us in trouble."
Bakugo huffed.
Tokoyami stood, "I think I'm gonna go inside for a glass of water, do you mind, Maki?"
I shook my head, taking his seat.
I waited until he was inside before turning my attention to Bakugo, "So…"
He didn't acknowledge I spoke.
I sighed, "What did you do to land in the dog house with my sister?"
He rolled his eyes, "None of your business."
I shook my head, "How many times do I have to tell you, my twin, my business?"
He shrugged, "That didn't work so well for you last time."
Touche.
"How did I know you wouldn't leave it alone?" Mio sounded annoyed.
I threw my hands in the air, "What do you expect? Something is wrong and you won't talk to me."
Mio shook her head, "You're not going to let this go, are you?"
I shrugged, "Have I ever?"
She sighed, "Fine, you want to know what's bugging me? You are." She pointed at Bakugo, "You are an idiot. A massive one, it doesn't matter that you're one of the top in the class, you're truly dumber than Kaminari, even after he accidentally shocks himself for the third time. And I hate you."
Bakugo didn't look up at her. He stared at the ground.
I felt bad, that was rough, "Mio…"
Bakugo stood, "They don't need me tonight, let's go."
Mio shook her head, "No, I'm not going anywhere with you."
Bakugo finally looked up at her, "Let's go." He was sterner.
She sighed, "Fine, I'll go. But only because I want the chance to kick your ass myself."
I watched them walk out to Bakugo's car.
Tokoyami came back after a minute, confused.
Before he could say anything, Jiro opened the studio door and looked around, "Where's Bakugo?"
She's not going to be happy.
***Bakugo's P.O.V.***
Mio and I drove down to the park. I thought we'd get out and talk… well, she'd talk but neither of us moved.
I tapped the steering wheel, unsure of what to do, what to say.
"I hate you." She finally spoke. Her words full of hate and some sorrow.
I don't like the way her words made me feel.
She shook her head, "Do you care that I hate you?"
I clenched my jaw, ignoring the urge to yell what I really think, "I don't give a damn."
"Liar."
Damn.
"I'm not."
She groaned, irritated, "I've been your friend for months, Katsuki." She never calls me that, "I know when you're lying. Like, when you tell Deku you hate him, you don't, you find him annoying but you don't actually hate him. I know you."
She's not wrong.
I heard her take a deep breath, it hitched in her throat, is she going to cry?
I glanced at her, quickly, a tear definitely fell. I felt pain in my chest. I don't like it.
She pushed open her door, "Screw this. I can't talk to a dense rock with no feelings."
I watched her walk into the park. Anger boiled in me. I'm a dense rock with no feelings? That's not true.
I got out and followed her, resisting the urge to punch or kick something, "You're wrong."
She shrugged, "About?"
"My feelings," I don't like this, "I do have feelings. I just hate showing them. I don't like letting anyone in, anyone close."
Mio rolled her green eyes, the ones I don't mind staring at all day, "It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that."
I clenched my fists, trying to contain the anger, "Why are you so mad at me?"
She rolled her eyes, running her fingers through her silver hair, "Are you kidding? Why am I mad at you? Are you fucking stupid?! You're going to be a cop! You're going to willingly put yourself in harm's way every day!"
I shrugged, beyond confused, "Your father is a detective."
She nodded, "Exactly! I have enough to worry about with my dad being out there I don't need to be worried about you too! Maki and I have both begged our father to get a desk job but he won't and I know you won't either. I lost my mother… I don't want to think about losing you and my dad."
I was shocked, "You don't have to worry about me."
She hid her face in her hands as she shook her head. She looked up at me, "But I do, I can't stand the idea of losing another person I love. My mother was too much for me, I can't take it if I lose you too. You have this dream, I know, and I know I can't keep you from it but I can't stop the terror I feel inside. This, this is why I swore to never fall in love, loving people always leads to heartbreak. I never wanted this."
My heart skipped a beat.
My body moved before I could think. I felt my arms wrap around her and pulled her in. She fought me at first but then she started to cry, "I hate you."
I thought love was something idiots felt, like Deku and Kaminari, but this woman, she has a hold on me, on my heart that I can't break, even if I wanted to, and damn it, I've wanted to.
This is the most overwhelming, even painful feeling. She soothes my anger, she gets along with my mother and everything is better when I'm around her. She understands me more than anyone ever has.
Mio knows me to my core.
I couldn't stop loving her any more than I could stop breathing.
I'm hopelessly in love with Mio Kagayaku, more than she knows.
I didn't want to admit it.
When Maki called me out during that first performance, it made me angry someone might have seen through me, but I also felt fear she would tell Mio.
I'm in love with her.
I'm such a dumbass.
