Today Prim comes back even more excited than yesterday.
"Katniss I know all the edible plants that are going to be in the arena!" she says excitedly.
"That's great," I say. It really is because now she will know what she can and cannot eat. "Have you had any luck with the weapons?" I ask.
Her face drops. "No. I can't even hurt the dummy."
I don't show it but I start to worry. Without a weapon she won't be able to defend herself against anyone.
"We did get more allies," Finn says, trying to lighten the mood.
"That's great! Who?" Peeta asks.
"Jorion from 7 and Ellia from 8," Finn answers
The mention of those names makes me hopeful. Jorion is eighteen years old and huge and Ellia is really good with a spear I've heard. Maybe Prim will be protected.
When everyone was asleep I went to get some water from the kitchen. I look over to see Finn sitting in a window looking down at the streets. I walk over and sit next to him.
"Couldn't sleep?" I ask.
"How did you do it?" he asks.
"Do what?"
"Survive two Games in a row."
I don't even know how to answer. "In the first Games I hid my skill from the others. When I got an 11 for my score the Careers tried to hunt me down," I say. "Peeta saved me, then later I saved him. We faked a romance hoping we could both come home. It worked until the end but I tricked the Game makers. Because of that they did the Quell the way it was. I only survived that because I was determined to come back to Peeta."
He just looks at me. "This is a punishment isn't it?" he said. "Prim going into the Games."
"Yes," I say in a whisper.
"I'm going to protect her," he says. "I want her to come home."
"Finn, she has no chance," I say. "You know that."
"She has no chance on her own. She will if we protect her like Haymitch and Finnick and Johanna did for you," he says.
"I lost a great friend because he protected me," I say.
"Prim and I aren't really friends," he starts to say. "I'm four years older than her. It would be more like me protecting an ally."
"Thank you," I say and I hug him.
"I won't let anyone kill her," he says and he gets up and walks away. Maybe Prim might have a chance after all. She might come home.
