All I can do is sit here as the Careers attack Prim's group. Venus throws a knife at Candela and immediately a cannon goes off.
"Prim!" I hear Finn yell. "Run! Get out of here!"
I see Prim run away from the group. One camera follows her to where she climbs a tree as far up as she can. No one follows her. They didn't even see her leave.
The fight reappears on the screen. I didn't notice but I had been holding Peeta's hand as hard as I could. I released it and stood up as I watched Sapphire put a sword through Halle's body. A cannon fires. Now two are dead.
Finn is fighting with Tassel and Falcon has Jorion cornered. Venus, Pearl, and Sapphire have fled. The fight goes on for several minutes before Falcon finally kills Jorion by piercing his stomach with a sword. That's when Finn finally gets Tassel with his knife and attacks Falcon. Before I can process this, Finn has stabbed Falcon in the back. The cannon fires and Falcon drops to the ground. Finn looks around to see that Tassel has fled and he is left with Paislee and Elia. Perim climbs down from the tree. She is crying.
"No!" she yells and she runs to their bodies.
"Prim we need to go," Paislee says.
Prim won't leave Candela's side. It takes Finn picking her up and carrying her to make her leave.
The group travels until dark. Only one more cannon fire today. Glitch from 3 fell out of a tree and broke his neck.
The other mentors just sat and watched as their tributes died. None of them even cared when they died.
I had to catch my breath. I handed Daisy to Peeta and I left the room to find the bathroom. As I walked the halls of the mansion, I could smell the putrid smell of Snow's roses. He is close by.
I turned the corner and there he was. His white hair looked as it had been freshly cut.
"Ah miss Mellark," he said. "Enjoying the Games?"
"Sorry Mr. President," I say. "I was just trying to find the bathroom."
"Oh it's just right there," he said and he pointed at a door down the hall. "Isn't there a bathroom in your viewing room?"
"Yes sir there is but someone is using it right now," I say. "If you'd excuse me please." I walk past him and head for the door.
"Have a good day Mrs. Mellark. I hope you enjoy the Games," he says as he walks away. "I think we are going to see a surprising turn later."
I stop dead in my tracks and turn around. He is gone but his words still hung in the air. What surprising turn?
