District 4's mentor looks at the screen in shock.
"I really thought he was going to win," he says.
The rest of the day drags on. Prim's group stays in the cave, Venus stays on the move and Pearl just sits in the Cornucopia. There are only six people left. The Gamemakers are going to intervene if we don't see some action soon.
*The next day*
Peeta and I took turns sleeping all night. Daisy slept all night too. The day is quiet. Nothing happens. My gut is telling me something bad will happen but I just don't want to believe it.
It's mid afternoon when my feeling came true. Prim and the rest of the group were gathering food in the woods. They had left the cave because everyone could move at a decent pace now that they have rested for a few days.
It was only mid afternoon, maybe two o'clock when the sun went down and the arena was submerged into darkness. The looks on everyone's face said it all. This was the finale.
It had only been darke for twenty minutes when the first one appeared. A big cat like mutt with black stripes on it's orange fur. It jumped on top of Paislee and started to kill her. Finn sent a knife through the beast but he was too late. The cannon fired. Paislee was gone.
That's when Venus jumped out from behind the bushes, running at full speed. I could see the pursuing mutts and I guess Finn did too because his face went whit and he yelled, "Run!"
Everyone ran as fast as they could to escape the beasts. I stood up and grabbed Peeta by the arm. He grabbed mine and didn't let go.
The four of them made it to the field that contained the cornucopia. Pearl came and saw the mutts and she ran to hide. They all may have been fast, even Prim, but the mutts were faster. One used its paw to knock Ellia down but it didn't do anything else. Instead, Venus saw what happened and she threw a knife at Ellia. The cannon fired. Four tributes left.
Finn saw her kill Ellia and he ran up behind Venus and cut her down the back. It may not have killed her but the mutt that attacked Venus did. Three tributes left.
Prim had made it to the cornucopia but couldn't climb up. Finn was running to her when the mutt jumped on top of him. He managed to kill it with his knife but the damage had already been done. Prim ran over to him, a horrible decision. She saw his wounds and the look of her face let me know that he was not going to make it.
"Go Prim." he said. She shook her head. "I love you." and with that the cannon went off. Prim screamed and grabbed his body. She sat there and cried. Every inch of me wanted to tell her to leave. When she eventually lifted her head she saw what I hadn't. She didn't move. She closed her eyes, grabbed Finn's hand and let the mutt attack her. It took a few seconds but the cannon fired. Prim was dead.
I screamed and ran out the door. I ran and ran around the mansion without a clue to where I was going until I turned a corner and ran into Plutarch Heavensbee. He hit me in the arm with something and everything went black. The last thing I could hear was Peeta's voice and Daisy's cry.
