Scene: Harry's study room
Situation: Dawn (six months pregnant) and Harry discuss the baby's future
Dawn (wrapping her arms around Harry): Hello love
Harry (looking up from a book): What is on your mind?
Dawn (touching her stomach): The baby's fate
Harry (choked up): You could die if you have the baby
Dawn (choked up): The baby's life is more important than mine
Harry (somewhat frustrated): Says the woman who gives up everything for her
baby
Dawn (crying): Your words give me false hope
Harry (emotional): I am afraid to lose you
Dawn (sobbing): I know that I am dying slowly. My life has always been about making sacrifices. Love
is a cross that I carry twenty four seven. Something beautiful will come out of my pain someday. Please never let me go.
Harry (kissing Sarah's forehead): You're precious
Dawn: If I am going to die soon, however will you remember me? You need proof that I was here
Dawn (touching Sarah's stomach): We will have this baby and live happily ever after. We will grow old together.
Dawn (feels a sharp pain in her abdominal area): Ouch..
Harry (concerned): Whats the matter?
Dawn (lying): I am fine
Harry (oblivious to reality): Alright
Dawn (feels another sharp pain): Ouch..
Harry (worried): Your pains are increasing
Dawn (stressed): I am going into premature labor
(Quickly, Harry and Dawn gather up Phoenix and leave for the hospital. The long ride to the hospital is difficult for Dawn. Dawn fears she might give birth in the car. Phoenix stays over at Giles' house. Luckily, Harry and Dawn arrive at the hospital before the birth happens.)
Place: The Hospital Lobby
Action: Harry carries Dawn through the door
Dawn (crying into Harry's arms): OH GOD, I am in so much pain. Premature labor, why does this have to happen to me?
Harry: Just breathe, Dawn. Everything will be alright.
Dawn (experiencing pressure down below): I am experiencing pressure down below. Something is coming out of me.
Harry (frightened): OH MY GOD
Nurse (assisting Dawn into a wheelchair): I'll take care of you, Sweetheart
Dawn (sobbing): Please save my baby
Nurse (escorting Dawn to a nearby hospital room): Now lets see whats up with the baby
Harry (holding Dawn's hand): I will stay around for as long as you need me
Dawn: Thanks
Harry (with a smirk): No problem
Scene: Dawn's hospital room
Action: Dawn rests in bed and endures the worst pain of her life. Harry never once leaves her side.
Harry (coaching Dawn): Breathe in, breathe out
Dawn (places a hand over her stomach): I don't understand why this one wants to come now? I guess babies arrive when they want to
Harry: We'll manage
Dawn (having a contraction): AHA..AHA..AHA
Harry (squeezing Dawn's hand): Breathe through the pain
Dawn (crying): Its not that easy
Harry (looking around for the doctor): You need medication. Where is the doctor?
Dawn: I don't know
A doctor (walks through the door): Lets us how far dilated you are
Dawn (praying): I hope this is a false alarm
Doctor (checking Dawn's cervix): You are fully dilated
Dawn and Harry (shocked): No way
Doctor: The baby will be born today
Dawn (experiencing a contraction): I have to push
Doctor: So push
Dawn (screaming as she bears down and pushes really hard): AHA..AHA..AHA
The Doctor (preparing to catch the baby): The baby is crowning. I can see the head.
Dawn (exhausted): I am not ready. It is way too early. Will the baby be okay?
A nurse (placing a fetal monitor on Dawn's stomach, she checks the baby's heartbeat): The baby's heartbeat is in distress
Doctor (to Dawn): You need to get the baby out asap
Dawn (gives once more into her pain): AHA..AHA..AHA
Harry: The baby is small. It should just slip right out.
Dawn (hyperventilating): Its not that easy
The Doctor (pressing down on Dawn's stomach): Come on out, little baby
Dawn (beginning to lose consciousness): I am dying
The Doctor (trying to pull the baby out): Please stay awake, Dawn. Just one more big push and your suffering will be over.
(Obediently, Dawn pushes and Catelyn enters the world. Frail, Catelyn is on the brink of death. Harry and Dawn still form a bond with her anyway.)
