Defenders of the Creek
Chapter 3: The Knight Receives a Proper Sword – Kelsey
The last class of the day. Kelsey never had a moment when she yearned to be in class more than today. With warper society now a thing, from what she was able to see on the news and from the hushed tones of adults, this meant changes to schools. Thus, there was an influx of new teachers. For their history class, they were being taught by an elf. Lunch food did not taste bad and uniforms were optional. Kelsey reveled in walking into class in her armor and cape with no one making fun of her for it. Mortimer could even come to school with her.
So, she and her follow students were all in the gym waiting for who would be their combat class teacher.
"Oh man, imagine if we get Ben 10 as our teacher?" One student said with a savage grin.
"Doubt it." Kit said with a grin. "I know who's coming."
Kelsey had her bokken drawn and at Kit's face demanding to know who. The gym doors opened as teenager walked in clearly looking the part of a warrior. A black gi with the sleeves torn, white handwraps, a red headband on his short brown hair, and white boots. He dropped his duffel bag on the ground before clearing his throat.
"Greeting rookies, welcome to combat class. I don't really do the formal stuff, just call me Morty. I know that being warpers must be a shock, but you'll live. The multiverse doesn't really give you time to adapt, so you'll have to learn on the fly. Combat class is a general course to give an insight in what fighting style suits you. If you've already decided to learn magic, then you'll have to learning with Charmcaster who's in the library." Morty said as a few students left the gym. "Ok, now that they have left the room, let's see what you're made of!"
Kelsey reveled in the first lessons of combat hanging on to every word Morty explained through several basic stances and moves to start off with. Craig was doing what he could to keep up, but Kelsey took to it like a fish to water. After a while, Morty called for a break as they all sat around.
"Morty, are you good with a sword?" Kelsey asked.
"I'm not exactly a sword guy, but my stepdad is…and he's passed on skill to me." Morty said mirthfully.
Kelsey was a bit saddened, but then Morty noticed the bokken.
"So, what's with the bokken and pipe sword? I figured you'd get a live one if you're so enthused." Morty mused.
"Can't really afford an actual one…the bokken is a bit close to the real deal." Kelsey said as Morty took it up.
"Let me ask you, what would be your sword of choice?" Morty asked thoughtfully.
"Jian. A double-sided straight sword." Kelsey said dramatically.
"You know, how about I show you exactly a reality warper is capable of?" Morty said as the bokken broke out into white flames. "After all, as we warpers create, delete, and edit."
The flames died down and the students looked in awe. What was the bokken was now a sheathed jian was Morty gave to her. Kelsey took it up as the white flames flickered away.
"Don't think much of it, but when you're older or if you get lucky, you may get offered to go the Battle Academy in the Core." Morty said getting up to stretch. "Now rookies, break's over."
"Kelsey looked upon the new blade given to her with glee. It's metal hot and crafted so well. It was finally hers…an actual sword. Fitting that a knight such as herself be given a real blade. One more step in becoming a real warrior." Kelsey monologued in her thoughts.
(A/N: Kelsey. She may be my favorite character for her charm in how fun she is as a character. So overdramatic. Unlike the other two, I could see her taking being a reality warper in stride. Being self-aware of her main character status…would probably bloat her dramatics. Next, we wrap this up with Craig.)
