It was the twins' first day of kindergarten. Dylan was excited to be starting school, but Daisy was anxious.
"What if my teacher doesn't like me?" she asked her mother.
"I don't see how anyone could help liking you," Rose replied.
"Well, what if the other kids are mean to me?"
"If anybody is mean to you, I'll beat them up," said Dylan.
"No, you'll tell the teacher," Rose corrected him. "Don't get into fights."
As she walked the twins to the bus stop, she wondered what the surprise was which Dimitri had promised her.
