Four years.

That's how long the next president would be in office.

A lot could happen in four years.

Alfred grits his teeth and stares at the ballot. Trump or Clinton? It feels as if he's split apart. A half for red, a half for blue, and all the little third party fragments scattered about as white stars, barely given a voice in the chaos that was this date: Election Day.

And what an election this was. There's Trump, the billionaire businessman who promises to make him great again. Wasn't he great already? He is the hero after all, but he sure doesn't feel great right now. And then there's Clinton, the former Secretary of State. The former First Lady. Possibly his first female boss. That would be interesting, but there's more to her than gender.

Out of all his citizens, he has to pick between these two?

Or the third party candidates, but he hasn't put much effort into understanding them. Too bad for the Libertarians and Greens and everyone else not falling into the neat little bipartisan boxes of Republicans and Democrats.

Trump didn't fall neatly into that Republican box, either. He practically forced his way in, knocking aside more experienced politicians such as Cruz, Rubio, and Kasich. Could he make him feel great? What a tempting offer. Trump certainly made himself feel great; rich, accomplished, famous... If Trump could make Alfred feel that successful, that'd be... well, great.

Yet Trump wasn't the most polite person around. He insulted all sorts of people; Republicans, Democrats, women, Mexicans, Muslims... the list goes on. He speaks his mind, for better or worse. Yet words are words; if his actions themselves were rooted in prejudice, that would be problematic. Without him having a political background, perhaps it could be mainly talk, yet if not, then all sorts of groups could face severe problems. That would not be great.

Clinton was in the establishment, and quite accomplished in her field. A bunch of political experience sounded good, and it would be interesting to have a female boss one day. Most of her ideas seemed to branch off traditional Democratic views, starkly contrasting Trump and her formal rival, Sanders. Being With Her wouldn't be quite the same as feeling The Bern.

But could she be trusted? So much time and effort had been spent on those emails. Emails, of all things. Each one a source of suspicion. And then there was a certain tragic incident called Benghazi. Having a boss he could trust was important. He needed a president who would carry out the duties of the job truthfully to citizens, not someone who hid away problematic actions.

All sorts of issues to think about: the Supreme Court, foreign policy, climate change, education, the economy, healthcare, guns, abortion, crime, even outer space...

Who would be best for him?

Finally, Alfred decides. Four years, and it'll be over. He can handle four years; he's a nation, after all. His people will just have to deal with it, too. And his boss would be...
