KidsWBYungsta's Battle for the Animation Multiverse: The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy (One-Shot #2)

A/N: Well, folks, we've finally arrived in October, so what better way to continue the series of Battle for the Animation Multiverse one-shots than with one of the shows that represents the best of what Halloween has to offer: The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy! Going beyond the surface of a show that stars the Grim Reaper as one of its main characters, this series was notable for its wicked and twisted sense of humor, not to mention its sly and witty adult humor hidden within episodes.

Synopsis: Continuing their search for various heroes throughout the Animation Multiverse, one of Vilgax's robots find itself in the world of Endsville, home to the trio of Grim, Billy and Mandy. While Billy and Mandy are just passing the time doing what they normally do (annoying Grim), their day is interrupted when they run afoul of this mysterious robot that came from who-knows-where. Billy thinks it's one of the cosmic playthings he always dreamed of having, but Grim and Mandy quickly come to realize that the robot has arrived with sinister intentions. How will Grim, Billy and Mandy deal with the impending threat that comes this way?

Disclaimer: I do not own any of the cartoon characters who appear in this one-shot. The cartoon characters who do appear are under the ownership of their respective companies.

An Overview of the Animation Multiverse

In the dystopian Dubba City, the robot servants of the League of Extraordinary Villains were sent to multiple parts of the present-day Animation Multiverse to capture the most-powerful heroes in the known Multiverse, so the villains could use their powers and energy to power up their robot doppelganger to inflict a full-fledged takeover of not only Dubba City, but the Animation Multiverse at large! However, when one of their members decided to send out some of the robots to three random universes, that indirectly caused confusion because some of the other robots were being sent to various other universes to find worthy heroes.

However, this time around, two robots—one of Aku's army, the other of Vilgax's—ended up walking into the portal at the same time, causing them to be merged together and sent into one of the random animated universes! What universe will they be sent into you might ask?

I'll give you a hint… it's a place that's known for its many Grim Adventures…

Present Day: Billy's House — Endsville, Animation Multiverse

Inside the house of a kid named Billy, the Grim Reaper—yes, the Grim Reaper, but people just call him "Grim"—was busy coming up with a plan to get out of his long-lasting deal of servitude with Billy and Mandy. For years, he was hoping to just slice their heads off and call it a day, but eventually he realized that he would be thrown into the Underworld Jail for his troubles, so that plan was thrown out the window. He could try to set them up to be run over by oncoming traffic and make it look like a horrible accident, but he tried that once and it didn't work.

While he was in the midst of his thinking, he suddenly heard a high-energy voice saying with joy, "Oh, man! That's too cool!"

Being snapped out of his stupor by what came to be a familiar sound around the house caused Grim to poke his head out of the kitchen and say, "Billy, what're you going on about now, mon?"

Mandy, who was practically Billy's closest friend, was inside the living room, watching TV when she jumped up and decided to see what Billy was getting excited about. Walking up to the window next to him, Mandy just raised an eyebrow at her dimwitted friend as Billy said, "Ooh, Mandy, look at that! What do you think it is?"

"It's a crater, Billy, what do you expect?" Mandy said while rolling her eyes.

Once Billy ran outside to investigate the alleged "crater", Grim walked up to Mandy and said, "Well, Mandy, if dat's supposed to be a crater, then it's a real piece of work."

"What are you talking about, Grim?" Mandy said.

Grim took a closer look at what crash-landed into Billy's yard and said, "That seems to be some sort of intergalactic abomination from many galaxies ago. A reasonable facsimile between two robots from time and space."

Mandy just gave Grim an annoyed look for a moment at his needless psycho-babble, then she decided to walk outside to investigate as she said, "Remind me to have you committed, Grim…"

Grim could only give an aggravated look in response as he walked outside to see what Billy and Mandy were going to encounter.

Back outside, Billy happened to find his way inside the hole produced on the front yard as he came into contact with the robot with two heads, which had already awakened from his perilous travel. Billy just looked on in amazement as he said, "Wow, it's that Captain Two-Heads action figure I'd been dreaming of getting for Christmas this year… and it's super-realistic, too!"

The robots turned to analyze Billy and Mandy, then one of the heads said, "Hmm… looks like these two aren't exactly the templates for the robot army our masters are creating."

The second head turned and said, "Well, look on the bright side: at least the dumb one will provide some comic relief."

"Wow! This action figure even talks, too!" Billy said excitedly as he quickly hugged the robot and said, "Oh, man, this is gonna be so cool!"

Mandy took a closer look at the robot as Grim used his scythe to find the source where this robot came from, then he looked at the information and gave a sigh of annoyance as he said, "Oh, man, not dese two again…"

"What is it, Grim?" Mandy said as she walked up to Grim and looked at what he found through his scythe, then she looked at the two names and said, "'Vilgax'? 'Aku'? Don't tell me that those two clowns are trying this whole universal takeover again."

Before Mandy could respond, one of the robot heads quickly responded to Grim, saying, "Listen, Messenger of Death, the business of our two masters is none of your concern. Now, are you three going to come with us to the future or do we have to battle to the death?"

Grim then raised his scythe in the air, sporting a devious smirk as he said while powering his scythe, "Well, I can tell you that dat can be arranged, mon!"

"Hold that thought, Grim!" Mandy said, stopping Grim from unleashing his Underworld Mojo onto the robot. "Maybe it would be best if we challenged this robot to a battle of wits."

Grim raised an eyebrow in response as he repeated, "A battle of wits, you say? Oh! Oh, yes, of course! After all, if these robots want to take us to their masters, then they would have to prove that they are much more intelligent than us. Let us go into the house and engage in these battles, shall we?"

As Mandy and Grim walked into the house, the robot was about to follow, but it was stopped by Billy jumping up and saying, "Hey, wait, guys, don't forget about me! You know I got a really great idea for a battle like this!"

Moments later, the robot was in the living room with Grim, Billy and Mandy, ready to see what challenge the trio had in store that would determine if they would be taken to their masters or if they would get to stay in Endsville and not get caught up in the villains' multiversal plot. Grim was laying down the ground rules for the impending challenge that was upon them, saying, "Alright, so this is how this is gonna go: you will challenge me, Billy and Mandy in a series of tests that will determine your worth. If you manage to complete all three challenges, then you are deemed a worthy opponent and we will go with you to your masters, but if you lose…"

Grim then proceeded to mime slashing his neck, implying that he would slice off the robot's two heads if they failed at all three challenges. The robot heads could only wince a bit as they simultaneously said, "Understood, Mr. Reaper. What is your first challenge?"

Grim pulled out a piece of paper that contained the three challenges, then he said, "Your first challenge is: best Billy in a Home Run Derby."

Grim and Mandy just looked at Billy as Mandy said, "A home run derby? Is that the best you could come up with, Billy?"

Billy leaned towards Mandy and whispered, "Aw, c'mon, Mandy, you know this one will be a cinch! Besides, who's to say that the robot will be able to belt out any sort of home run?"

"Says the boy who was willing to stay on a losing baseball team because he didn't want to recruit Mandy," Grim muttered under his breath.

Billy and Mandy looked up at Grim after making that comment, causing the Reaper to play off his previous comment by giving off a feigned laugh as he said, "Oh, it was nothing. Just something stupid."

Moments later, Grim, Billy and Mandy led the robot to the Endsville baseball stadium where the home run derby challenge would take place. Once Grim laid down the ground rules, the robot and Billy proceeded to walk out to the diamond to practice their swinging to determine who would come out victorious in the home run derby challenge: the robot with two heads or the over-energetic boy who is notorious for being unathletic.

The robot proceeded to step up and challenge Billy in this home run derby, which allowed up to three tries per contestant. The one who had the longest home run distance would win the challenge, and the robot decided to step up first. When Mandy proceeded to pitch the ball, the robot was surprised to see that it was unable to hit the ball, mainly because of the handicap of having two heads and thus creating conflicting commands.

However, the robot would be left in even more embarrassment when Billy stepped up and managed to hit the ball with ease, each time. To add insult to injury, Billy managed to hit a home run with a distance longer than the last, automatically giving Grim, Billy and Mandy the first victory of the challenges.

The two-headed robot could only grumble in annoyance as Aku's robot head said to Vilgax's robot head, "Nice work, you fool! We actually got defeated by the likes of a dimwitted boy who scored a -5 on his IQ test!"

The other robot head gave a heated sigh as it said, "Yes, yes, a weary defeat, I know. Not to worry, my comrade, the next two challenges should be a cinch! Besides, what's the worst that the other two could do to us?"

Moments later, the two-headed robot found itself in Mandy's house where Mandy challenged the robot to a game of cards, which the robot would assume would be easier because the advantage of two heads would allow it to know Mandy's next move ahead of her.

However, it turned out that the effort would be all for naught as Mandy proved to be three steps ahead of the robot, bringing everything home with a full house deck of cards and taking all of the winnings for herself. The robot just groaned in annoyance as Billy said to Mandy, "Boy, Mandy, who knew that you were such a cardshark?"

Mandy just shrugged her shoulders as she said, "Eh, it runs in the family."

The robot felt that it was worthless to continue with the challenges as it prepared to leave Endsville, saying, "Oh, forget it! I can tell that you Earthlings are way too advanced for our masters! We might as well just go back to Aku and Vilgax, and just forget about using your powers for—"

However, the robot was quickly interrupted by Grim saying, "Wait just a minute here! We still have one more challenge in our arsenal."

"One more challenge? What do you have in store, Mr. Reaper?" One of the robot heads said in a weary tone.

Grim just gave a devious smirk as he used his scythe to create a portal to the Underworld, giving off an evil laugh along the way as he said, "Well, follow me and I'll show you, mon."

As Grim and the robot quickly made their way through the portal, Billy and Mandy exchanged looks with each other as Billy said, "Is Grim going to do what I think he's going to do, Mandy?"

"Looks like it, Billy," Mandy said as she and Billy found themselves being sucked through the portal into the Underworld.

Soon, Billy, Mandy and the two-headed robot had caught up with Grim in the Underworld as Grim walked up to the robot and said, "Welcome to the Underworld, you little robot! My final challenge will involve a winner-takes-all round of one of my all-time favorite games: the limbo!"

With that, Grim proceeded to turn his scythe into a limbo stick, then he passed it to Billy and Mandy as he said, "How low can you go, mon?"

Grim then proceeded to make his way under the limbo stick as the robot followed suit and managed to get below the limbo stick, despite the two heads giving off some conflicting commands. Grim was rather impressed by the robot's moves as he said, "Well, seems like you're catching on quickly. Looks like we can let the fun really begin."

Billy and Mandy then set the limbo stick a little lower than before and Grim managed to go under with ease, then the robot followed through with the same relative ease as before. Soon, the limbo stick was set to its lowest point and Grim coolly made his way underneath, his skull narrowly avoiding colliding with the limbo stick in question. Once he got back up with cool and composure, Billy and Mandy were surprised to see that Grim managed to pull one off, even Mandy saying, "Wow, Grim, that's impressive. Didn't think you were able to pull it off."

"Well, as long as Mr. Snuggles isn't around to attack me like some wild animal, you should never doubt the Grim Reaper, mon," Grim said as he gave a hearty chuckle. "That's right, baby, we bad."

The two-headed robot then tried to go under the limbo stick like before, but then it started to deal with a conflict of interest from the two main robot heads as the robot head of Vilgax's servant said, "Wait a minute, this is ridiculous! There's no way we could pull this off! We have to abort the mission! Abort! Abort! ABORT!"

However, just before the robot body could heed to its demand, the robot head of Aku's servant decided to fight back, saying in an indignant tone, "What? Are you an incompetent fool?! It doesn't matter if this one is impossible for us to do! There's no way we are going to sit back and lose to some rotting bag of bones! Go under the limbo stick! JUST DO IT!"

Just as the robot body was going to go underneath the limbo stick, however, it was left in complete confusion as the two robot heads proceeded to bicker between themselves about whether or not it should go through with the challenge. The pressure became too much for the overall robot to bear as it started to malfunction, allowing Grim, Billy and Mandy to hide behind one of the rocks in the limbo world as the robot caused a massive explosion.

Once the explosion had occurred, Billy, Mandy and Grim looked up to see that all that was remaining of the robot was the two heads, then Billy just looked on in amazement as he said, "Whoa… check it out, Grim and Mandy, I guess it turns out that two heads are better than one!"

As Billy laughed at his own terrible pun, Grim and Mandy walked up to examine the two robot heads, which were somehow still able to communicate clearly. Mandy looked up at Grim and asked, "So, Grim, what do you think we should do with these two?"

Grim thought about it for a moment, then an idea quickly came to his head as he said, "Well, I guess it might be a stretch, but here's what I'm gonna do…"

Back at Billy's house, Grim, Billy and Mandy were in the basement where Grim placed the two robot heads on one of the shelves, only this time, they were decorated as tiki heads. While Billy was impressed with Grim's decoration of the two heads, Mandy could only say, "Y'know, Grim, I was thinking that you were going to try and keep them inside your trunk."

"Oh, please, Mandy, with all of the times you two were poking around in there, I wasn't gonna risk having anyone get these guys, so they could construct their own robot army," Grim said as he led Billy and Mandy out of the basement and back into the living room. "Besides, better to have them as trophies than to have them try and threaten the Animation Multiverse."

Once Grim, Billy and Mandy had left the basement, the head of Aku's robot servant looked over at Vilgax's robot servant and said, "How long do you think we have to stay like this?"

"I would assume whenever the Reaper decides to let us free, or if he decides to destroy us…" the head of Vilgax's robot servant said. "Whichever comes first…"

The End

Well, that's all, folks! I apologize for the slightly-shorter length of this one-shot, but I was under such a time crunch trying to balance working on this and keeping up with my schoolwork. I am already getting close to the homestretch of this semester and the time crunched version of this recent semester was such an eye-opening experience in regards to time management and whatnot.

Anyway, despite its shorter length, I hope the one-shot managed to satisfy your Halloween tastes, especially considering that this one takes place in the world of The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, possibly one of the best cartoons that could be used to represent Halloween. I also wanted to get this one-shot uploaded before the start of November, so what better time to upload than the day of Halloween, right?

Anyway, the next one-shot is going to cover Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends where one of the Cluster robots runs afoul of the Foster's gang, particularly Mac and Bloo, which allows the two friends to use their wits to defeat the robots before they end up like the other heroes who have been captured. Will Mac, Bloo and the gang manage to evade the robot's capture? Well, "Stay Tooned" in November for the Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends one-shot, folks!
