Hero was one of the founding members of the Protectorate.
The Protectorate is a government sponsored superhero organization spanning the United States of America and Canada. It works under the Parahuman Response Team or PRT.
Hero was considered the preeminent Tinker of his day, his specialization wasn't known because it lived before Tinker's specializations were considered, but Legend correctly theorized that Hero specializes in wavelength manipulation.
This is the common knowledge I have learned about Hero from fan fiction and the wiki.
But in the last few hours, I've learned a lot of interesting things about Hero or how he presented himself: Sir Antony Kleiss-Westcott.
Hero / Antony was born through a marriage of interests between a Karen Kleiss and a Watson Westcott, both widowers with a child prodigy, His older half-brothers Van Kleiss and Isaac Westcott are geniuses among geniuses.

The explosion spread the results of the scientists' experimentation, nanites, into the atmosphere where they eventually descended and bonded with the molecular structure of every living organism on the planet. Under normal circumstances, nanites are completely harmless until they activate, transforming their host into an often monstrous creature called EVO.
In response to the threat posed by the EVOs, the Protectorate received increased privileges and powers to deal with the Parahuman and EVO threats, normally, nanites are completely harmless; however, when activated, they mutate or micro-mutate the biology of their hosts, giving them grotesque physical characteristics with or special abilities. They are called EVO (Exponentially Variegated Organisms), In addition to triggering physical transformations, active nanites can also affect the minds of hosts, transforming most EVOs into mindless creatures who only know destruction until they are cured.
The earth within five miles of the explosion was infused with large amounts of nanites. Van Kleiss later settled there, his EVO kingdom of Abysus after discovering that he had been transformed into an EVO with the ability to control nanites in the soil.
