Serena was running so fast that she didn't feel the tree branches cutting her bare arms and legs. She knew if she didn't get there in time the person, she loves the most will die by the hands of someone who she thought she loved. This all started a year ago. Well, at least that's when it started for one of them.
The Year Before
The four girls were sitting at the arcade like always after school. They where all talking about school and boys, which was what normal teenage girls do. When Darien had walked in and sat down with them.
'Why did he have to come? He always steals Serena's attention from the rest of us.' Ray thought to herself as she watched the two together be all lovey dovey.
The group sat there for a while talking and laughing, well not Ray. She had other things on her mind. Like how Serena was laughing at everything Darien said and how she would push on his shoulder. Every touch between the two. Ray tried not to stare but it was really hard not to.
"earth to Ray. Ray?" Lita said waving her hand in front of Ray's face.
"Yea, sorry I was thinking about what I need to do at the shine when I get back."
"Is there a lot?" Mina asked.
"Yes, there is a festival coming up and I have a lot to do before then. So, I better go." Ray said while getting up.
"I can help you, if you want, Ray." Lita said.
"If you want to."
The two girls got up and walked out after they said their goodbyes. When they got to shine and into Ray's room, Lita dropped her bag right in front of Ray.
"All right, Ray. What's going on?" Lita asked.
"Nothing."
"There is something going on. What is it? I'm here for you no matter what. I know it has to do with Serena and Darien by the way you stare at them, especially today."
"It's nothing."
'I can't let anyone know how I really feel.' Ray thought to herself.
"You have a crush on Darien, don't you?" Lita asked.
"Yes, and I'm trying not to show it. I know hoe much Serena loves him. And I don't want to get in the way of that."
"Oh, Ray, you really are a good friend. You just need to work on not being so obvious. Thank god that Serena is clueless." Lita said as she chuckled and wrapping her arm about Ray.
Present Time
"I can't lose. I can't." Serena said to herself as she ran. It didn't seem that she was actually going anywhere. At least that's how it felt to her.
The Day Before
Serena sat in her room trying to work on her homework. She was having issues concentrating because of what happened earlier. Wishing that it could happen again.
Serena and her friends where at the arcade with Darien like they always where after school. Everything seemed to be normal but the feeling of someone watching her. She had felt eyes on her for a while now. Afterwards they all went to Ray's to study apart from Darien and Amy. Darien had already made plans with some of his friends and Amy had cram school.
They all where gathered around a small table that was in Rays room and she still felt like someone was watching her.
"I'm going to go and get us snack. Anyone want something to drink?" Ray asked as she got up.
"How about some tea?" Mina suggested.
"Yea, that sounds great." Serena said while looking up from her comic book she was trying to hid in a schoolbook.
"I'll help you." Lita said getting up as well.
The two girls walked towards the kitchen and Ray put some water in a kettle and set it on the stove. She then started to get some food out of the refrigerator.
"Ray, are you ok?" Lita asked.
"Yea, it's getting easier to see them together."
"Are you sure? You seem a little off today."
"Yes. If she's happy, I'm happy."
"She?"
'Oh, crap. I let it slip. What do I do know?' Ray thought to herself.
"Ray, you can tell me. I won't judge." Lita said placing her hand on Ray's
"It's not Darien. It's Serena I love." Ray said with a sigh.
"Oh, Ray. It's ok." Lita said as the kettle alerted them that the water was boiling.
Serena was around the corner and heard everything that they said. She stepped out slowing into the kitchen.
"You love me?" Serena asked in a soft voice. "Is that the reason why you tease me so much?"
"Yes, I'm sorry. I didn't want to ruin things between you and Darien. And I didn't want to ruin our friendship." Ray said in a whisper looking away from Serena.
"I'm going to take these into your room, Ray. That way you two can talk." Lita said grabbing the tray of snacks and went to the room.
"How long?" Serena asked as soon as Lita left the room.
"From the minute I saw you, but I knew you would never feel the same way. I thought just being friends would be enough." Ray said as she poured the water into a tea pot that already had tea leaves in it. Serena placed her hands-on Rays shoulders and turned Ray to face her. When Rays eyes looked into Serena's Ray saw love in them, not disgust like she had always imagined. Before ray could say anything else Serena's lips where crashing into Rays. At first Ray was shocked but then she gave into the kiss she always dreamed about. When their lips parted from one another.
"I feel the same way, Ray. Don't get me wrong I love Darien to a certain extent, but my heart has always belonged to you. I was also afraid of messing up our friendship." Serena said pushing Ray's raven hair behind her ear.
"What do we do now though? What about Darien? I…"
"Don't worry about Darien. I'll talk to him tomorrow and break it off with him. I want to be with you."
"Are you sure?" Ray asked still not sure if this was really happening.
"Yes, Ray. I am sure." Serena replied while placing a soft kiss on Ray's lips.
After that, the two girls went back into the room and continued their study session with so much happiness in their hearts.
The Next Day
Serena was waiting at the coffee shop near her home for Darien to met her there. She called him that morning to meet her there. Luckily, there was no school today for any of them.
'I need to be delicate about this. I know that this is going to hurt him, but I need to be honest with him and myself.' Serena thought to herself while she was sipping her tea. D
"Hey Serena. Have you been waiting long?" Darien asked as he sat down in front of her.
"No, just long enough to order tea I'm drinking," The waiter came by and Darien ordered a coffee.
After his coffee arrived and took his first sip Serena knew this was the time to tell him.
"Darien, I need to talk to you about something." Serena said. Darien could hear the difference in her voice. It wasn't bubbly like usual.
"Something has happened, and I need to be honest with you."
"You're breaking up with me, aren't you?" Darien asked. Serena sat there in silence which answered his question.
"Is it another guy?"
"No."
"Then what? Why are you breaking up with me? I deserve that much."
"There is someone, but it's not a guy. It's… it's Ray."
"Wait, you're breaking up with me because of a girl?" He sneered.
"Yes, I love her, and she loves me. It's a different kind of love then what we had."
"Ok, go be a lesbian. But that bitch better watch her back." Darien threatened as he got up and left.
Serena was in shock because she has never heard him use that kind of language before. Or have ever seen him that angry. Serena finished her tea and walked to Rays shine so she could tell her what happened. Serena tried to push what just happened to the back of her mind. She wanted to focus on Ray and the love they had.
Present Time
Serena was almost to the shine where Ray was. She had to get there before something bad happened. Her lungs where screaming at her for air. She raced up the stairs and opened the gate.
One Hour Earlier
Serena was sitting at the kitchen table at home working on some math paper Amy had given her to see what Serena was needing help with. The phone rang.
"I'll get it." Serena said as she got up from the table.
"Hello?" She answered.
"Didn't you tell her to watch her back?" A male's voice asked.
"Darien, what did you do?"
"I haven't done it yet, but I will soon. She can't have you."
"Serena! Don't…." Ray shouted by the receiver. The Serena heard a bell.
'They are at the shine still. He didn't take her anywhere else.' Serena thought.
"Darien, please don't. I'll do anything. Please don't hurt her."
"I'm not going to hurt her. I'm going to make sure she can never touch you again. Or breath in her direction." After Darien had said that he hung up the phone.
'Oh my god! I've got do something.' Serena thought. She dialed Lita's number.
"This is Lita." She answered.
Serena told Lita everything that just happened.]
"I've got to go save her, Lita. We just found the courage to come out and I'm not going to lose her."
"Go. I'll call the police. You said they were at the shine still so that's where I'm going to send the police. Go Serena, go!" Lita said and hung up.
Serena pulled her shoes on and started to run towards Ray's shine.
Present Time
Serena ran in and went straight for Ray and Darien's voices.
"You thought you could take her from me? Thin again." Darien said
When Serena had eyes on them, she could see Ray standing in the corner of the living room. Her eye was swelling up and she was holding her arm which had blood dripping down it. Ray's face was not showing any fear but pain from her arm. She was not going to back down no matter what.
"Serena is not your property or mine. This was her choice. I'm sorry that you are hurt over it, but this was her choice to make."
"I don't care." Darien yelled as he lunged for her.
Serena sprinted towards then and slammed into Darien knocking him to the side. The knife he had in him hands entered Serena's abdomen and she fell to the ground.
"Serena, no!" Ray shouted and she kneeled down to her.
Darien got up and saw Serena on the ground with horror on his face.
"Darien, look at what you did!" Ray shouted up at him while she held Serena. Serena wasn't dead though. She was knocked out from the pain.
They now could hear sirens heading that way.
"They are coming for you, Darien." Ray said.
"I didn't mean to…" Darien said backing up and sliding the floor.
The police barged in and saw the two girls on the ground bleeding and called for two ambulances for them. They handcuffed Darien and placed him in the back of a police car.
The Next Day
Ray was sitting next to Serena's bed waiting for her to wake up. Luckily the EMTs where able to stop the bleeding and the doctors where able to stitch her back up again. Serena slowly opened her eyes and looked around the room and saw a pair of violet eyes looking at her.
"Hey, Ray." Serena whispered.
"Hey Serena. How are you feeling?"
"A little tired and like crap. What happened?"
The doctor had told Ray that Serena's memory maybe a little foggy when she came to.
"Well, when you tracked Darien, he stabbed you. Shortly after that the police came. The doctors said you will fine after a while. Luckily, he missed your vital organs."
"Yea, but, how are you? Are you ok?" Serena asked while reaching out for Ray's hand and saw the cast.
"I'm ok. Just some bruised and a broken arm. I had it lucky compared to you. And on that note, what where you thinking when you tackled him? You could have been killed."
"He was going to kill you. All I could think about is how many years we spent loving each other from a far and how we just got to be able to actual love each other. I couldn't let him kill you. I wouldn't be able to go on with my life if you were dead."
"And how do you think I feel?" Ray said crying.
"I'm sorry. I just saw the knife and I reacted."
"Please don't do that again, ok?"
"I won't. Darien is gone now, and we have nothing to worry about." Serena said smiling.
"I love you, Serena."
"I love you, too." Ray said leaning down and kissing Serena gently.
Mina, Amy and Lita was standing in the doorway of the room watching their two friends finally get to love one another.
"It's about time, isn't it?" Amy asked quietly.
"Yea." Lita said with a sigh. The three girls walked in to visit their friends. All of them happy for the love they all share for one another.
