In headmaster Cross's office, Takuma's worst fears had come true as Kaname had long forgotten about the night class students who he had ordered to stay put in the classroom. Kaname was far more concerned in matters regarding Zero's immediate transfer to the night class to be worried about any of the night class members.
"I hope you understand the graveness of this issue, Cross. As long as Kiryu remains a day class student, neither can the safety of Yuki or any of the day class students be assured. I did appreciate his will power for being able to keep himself controlled for a long time and that is why I decided to let him remain in the day class before, but I am afraid cannot ignore his actions for a second time" Kaname said in a steely expression.
"I do understand, but.." the former vampire hunter trailed off.
"Cross, it was Yuki, your own daughter who became victim on both occasions. In my opinion, there is absolutely no need for you to consider Kiryu's feelings regarding the matter. Keeping Kiryu in the day class would reflect badly upon the co-existence movement. He is a potential threat and I don't think I need to explain any of that, especially to you, Cross"
A moment of silence prevailed in the room following Kaname's words as Cross pondered on the possible alternatives to keep Zero in the day class while posing no threats to the remaining students, but there was absolutely none.
"It seems that it is the suitable and only course of action at the moment" Headmaster Cross replied after moments of silence between them.
"Then, it is settled. Kiryu will be a member of the night class and from now on will stay under my supervision. I suggest Kiryu to move in as soon as possible"
"I will talk to him about the changes" Cross answered after heaving a sigh. He did not know how to let Zero know of the change of events and his upcoming fate. This was going to be a long day for him..
"Well then, now that Yuki is safe with you, I might as well return to the dorms and make necessary arrangements. I appreciate your support, headmaster, and I hope you would continue to do what is best for the maintenance of peace in the campus grounds"
Once Kaname had left, Cross stood in the doorstep for a few minutes and finally decided to visit the male sun dorms to talk with Zero. He was not at all happy with how the events had unfolded and even though Zero had endangered Yuki's life, he couldn't help but feel pitiful towards Zero, who was like a son to him.
'Let's just hope he wouldn't put a bullet through my head when he sees me..'
"I assume you are satisfied now, Kiryu.." Kaname's last words at the stables ran through Zero's mind for the hundredth time in a row.
'Yuki..I..I..nearly killed her. She was pleading for life and yet I..continued to drain her. If Kuran had not arrived, I would have ended up draining her to death. Why? Why couldn't I stop myself. Why didn't I stop drinking when I heard her..How could I ever face Yuki after all this? No.. not after endangering her life for the second time in a row'
Guilt and shame were ripping him apart and he could do nothing but feel disgusted over his past actions and loathe himself. It was all his fault and no one else's. Yuki had only decided to let him out of his suffering and he had taken advantage of her innocence.
The bloody rose was on the sheets of his bed, just a few paces away from where he stood. Cross had entrusted him with the weapon to keep vampires from acting out of line, but most of the time Zero ended up wondering if the man's words had another meaning hidden within them. Cross very well knew that he despised vampires from the bottom of his heart and the man was also well aware of the fact that he completely hated his own existence as well. If by any chance he decided to kill himself using the weapon, Cross have a huge burden off his shoulders. There was no clear reason for the elder man to adopt him anyways. He was nothing more than a burden and a huge threat for the rest of the humans in the world. If only he did not exist, he would be saving others a lot of trouble. In fact there won't even be anyone to cry over his death and most important of all he would not have to worry about harming anyone out of his will. He would rather die than end up killing someone which he had nearly done a few moments ago. All of a sudden, the thought of suicide appeared a lot more attractive than it had been before. Anything to end this life full of nothing but misery. Anything to escape this pain. Anything to keep Yuki out of danger...
He had unconsciously walked towards the bed where the silver gun was. Zero reached towards the weapon and held it in a strong grip and continued gazing at it as if it was the first time he had laid eyes on the hunter weapon.
A knock sounded on the opposite side of the door and momentarily drawing Zero out of his suicidal thoughts.
"Zero are you in?" Kain Cross's voice penetrated the door and reached Zero.
At first Zero ignored the man's words and continued gazing at the weapon in his hand.
"Zero, are you awake? Daddy needs to talk with you. Let me in Zero. Zero?" the man continued to call for Zero finally succeeding to bring out a reaction in the silverette.
Although Zero felt the strong urge to end his life, the thought of killing himself when his adoptive father was right behind the door, didn't seem so attractive. In a logical sense, he would burst right in if he sensed blood and Zero wished for atleast a peaceful death without any incident.
"Zero?" Kain's voice sounded once again. Zero replaced the bloody rose on the wooden table beside the bed and walked towards the closed door. He unlocked the door letting in the shabby headmaster Cross.
"Oh! Why didn't you open the door sooner, Zero? It's really cold in the hallway. Weren't you worried about your father, Son?" Cross teased in his girly tone.
"Why are you here? Leave me alone."
"I know it's late Zero, but we need to have a long talk with each other. It's not going to be happy news so I just want you to listen. Alright?" Cross said while taking a seat on Zero's bed.
Zero closed the door behind them, leaned against the wooden surface and slightly nodded at Cross permitting him to talk. Whatever Cross was going to tell him, he'd have to accept and he was also well aware of what exactly was going to come next.
