A month passed with Leon continuing to train with Arthur and Merlin continuing to help Arthur transition to his new normal. Arthur often found himself stuck in the middle of Merlin and Leon arguing over destiny. Almost every other day Leon showed up with a printed news article with a bright idea about what Arthur's destiny may be.
Merlin looked up from the latest article with an irritated look, "Leon, I am certain Arthur has not been resurrected from the dead to eliminate plastic from the oceans."
"It's a very serious issue!"
"Yes, I can see that. But I think the ecologists are much better suited to dealing with it than the Once and Future King of Albion."
Leon stroked his chin, "Okay, what about the UFO sightings then?"
Merlin rolled his eyes dramatically, "You can't be serious."
Arthur stopped paying attention as they began arguing over the statistical probability of the existence of alien life that may want to invade the planet. He wandered to the fridge and stuck his head in. He stared inside for a few minutes, thoroughly unimpressed by the contents. He turned around towards Leon and Merlin who were still arguing at the kitchen table, "Merlin, there's nothing to eat."
Merlin waved his hand dismissively, "There's turkey. Make a sandwich."
Arthur didn't want to make a sandwich. He wasn't particularly hungry for turkey and besides, he much preferred it when Merlin made him a sandwich.
"No, I don't want that."
Merlin looked at Leon as if to say: 'you see what I have to deal with?'
Merlin sighed, "What do you want then, prat?"
Arthur knew what he wanted. He wanted to stop listening to talks of destiny and these two immortal jackass' inside jokes they were both terrible at explaining to him. He wanted Leon to stop taking Merlin's attention away from him. He wanted Leon to leave already. He wanted Leon to go back to the hotel and stay there until Arthur, the very important Once and Future King, summoned him back. Suddenly Arthur remembered something important; Leon still insisted on treating Arthur like a king.
Arthur held his head importantly, "Sir Leon, you are dismissed."
Merlin and Leon both gave Arthur puzzled looks, but Leon began standing up. He bowed his head, "Of course, sire." Then he walked from the kitchen to the front door, closing it behind him.
Arthur smiled, satisfied by how easy that had been.
Merlin looked at Arthur strangely, "What was that about?"
Arthur stalked towards Merlin and sat himself down on his boyfriend's lap.
Merlin looked surprised, but wrapped his arms around Arthur's waist.
Arthur brushed some of the hair away from Merlin's forehead and began kissing his temple. "I'm tired of sharing you."
Merlin's hands began stroking Arthur's lower back, "Oh?"
Arthur angled his head to nibble at an ear while his hands went to grab the hem of Merlin's jumper. "So annoying, it's worse than listening to him talk about crop reports."
Merlin snorted as he lifted his arms to let Arthur take off his jumper and undershirt, "Good thing you didn't come back while I still owned the farm."
This bit of information caught Arthur's interest. In Camelot, he used to dream of running away from his royal duties to live a peaceful, pastoral life on a farm with Merlin.
Arthur ran his hands across Merlin's chest, "You owned a farm?"
Merlin hummed as if to say yes.
"Tell me about it."
Merlin spoke, "It was just a few miles from the lake." Arthur's hands caressed Merlin's sides. "We had cows and goats and chickens- ah!" Merlin inhaled sharply as Arthur pinched a nipple.
Arthur's hot breath whispered in his ear, "Keep going."
Merlin spoke with labored breath as Arthur continued his ministrations, "- and a dog named Beatrice."
Arthur leaned down and began kissing Merlin's neck lightly while he played with the warlock's nipples.
Merlin had to force himself to keep talking, "I had an herb garden. I grew mugwort, yarrow, rosemary, …" Merlin let out a small moan as Arthur's kisses to his neck became more intense.
Arthur spoke against his neck, "Don't stop."
Merlin was practically panting, but he continued, "Leon took care of the crops mostly. Used to hire some of the local boys for help. They called me Grandfather Fae after my hair turned white again – oh gods!" Arthur was biting and sucking his neck now.
Arthur paused long enough to ask, "Why 'Grandfather Fae'?"
Just as Merlin was about to answer, Arthur began slowly rolling his hips. Merlin sputtered, "Fairies – I – I – left them offerings. Superstition – makes them leave you alone. They're right bastards – if you don't – appease them."
Arthur crawled off of Merlin's lap and kneeled in front of him between his legs. He started working to open Merlin's jeans, "Tell me how you lived."
Merlin was watching Arthur, wide-eyed with anticipation, "I woke up early when the rooster crowed. I sometimes made breakfast tea before I –"
Merlin faltered as Arthur mouthed his bulge through the fabric of his briefs. Arthur teased, "Merlin,"
Merlin continued distractedly, "I went to milk the cows and let them out to graze and …" He paused for a moment when Arthur pulled him out of his briefs, "fed the chickens and goats."
Arthur started to stroke him lightly. Merlin let out little sounds of pleasure. He screwed his eyes shut, trying to concentrate, "I collected the fresh eggs while the hens ate, and I took them back into the house. I often cooked some for break- ahh!"
Merlin's eyes opened to the sight of Arthur's lips wrapped around the head of his cock. He panted, "Breakfast."
Arthur's tongue began to move. Merlin continued, "I – garden- my garden – I took care of the garden. I made medicinal blends. I gave them - to the towns people." Arthur head dropped a bit lower, taking more of Merlin in his mouth. Merlin continued, "We had guests - for tea. They asked for advice. Expecting mothers had - lots of questions. I was often asked to - help them deliver."
Arthur's head moved down and took Merlin almost entirely in his mouth. He swallowed around the length. Merlin moaned and resisted the urge to thrust up. "I took Beatrice on walks – until her joints started bothering her. I always had a long walk - and spent my evenings – at the lake."
Arthur suddenly popped off of Merlin's hardness. They looked at each other intensely.
Merlin spoke softly, "Nearly every night, for 1500 years."
Arthur felt his heart ache with a kind of melancholy joy, "You never went anywhere else?"
Merlin smiled, "Not for long. I tried to a few times. But I could never stay away."
Arthur rose to kiss Merlin's lips, slowly and lovingly. He pulled away just enough to look into Merlin's eyes, "I love you."
Merlin smiled like an idiot, "I love you, too."
They're lips met in another kiss. Arthur grasped Merlin's thighs and lifted them as Merlin wrapped his arms around his neck. They continued kissing as Arthur carried his boyfriend to the bedroom.
A/N: I promise the plot is going to start picking up in the next chapter.
