Hours later, Nasa was worn out. Another long day of deliveries, yet still unable to find the girl from that night. Sighing as he clocked out, he made his way out into the night. The sight of all the couples walking together depressed him even more, so he spent most of his walk home looking down.
The run down shop making up the first floor of the building he stayed at was a familiar sight, and he relaxed a bit. No more reminders of his foolish dream that he was chasing as he walked up the staircase. Pausing outside his front door, Nasa looked out to the night sky. The moon was shining brightly, though before long a group of clouds passed by, darkening the sky momentarily.
"That's fitting for today." Nasa thought to himself as he unlocked his door. The more he thought about earlier, the more he was convinced that it was just a coincidence. Having spent so much time around women on his many jobs, he had come across many different perfume scents. "Maybe it's just a less popular brand, it probably isn't even the same scent now that I think about it."
The many months that had passed since that night made him wonder if he was starting to forget parts of it. He could still remember her face, the bright red of her hair as it glowed under the moon light. A similar moon as the one he had seen tonight. "I guess I'll never really see her again, though what did I expect when I said all those embarrassing things."
Would most girls even take being compared to Kaguya-Hime as a compliment? Nasa hadn't tried saying the same line to anyone since then, in part because he simply didn't find anyone else captivating like the girl who had saved his life. He could already imagine what his kouhai at the bathhouse would say if he brought it up.
"You called her Kaguya-Hime? I bet she started laughing as soon as you passed out, you're so pathetic." Another sigh, Nasa quickly banished the make believe conversation from his head. Making a bowl of hot pot, he settled on his bed and began to eat. Even on his birthday, he had the same meal.
Glancing down at his phone, he half hoped that maybe a message from the girl would show up. "Happy birthday, I'm sorry it's been so long." Nasa laughed bitterly. "What am I even doing? I just need to grow up and move on like she did." Placing the bowl in the sink, he quickly washed it and put it away. Despite his current mood, he couldn't bring himself to be lazy.
Laying down on his bed, Nasa looked up to the ceiling and thought back to that fateful night. "It is my birthday, so making a wish isn't too out of the ordinary." Closing his eyes, he wished with every fiber of his being that he could see her just one more time. Even if the promise they had made was just a joke, he hoped that he could have one more chance to try and win her over.
A sudden knock on his front door pulled him from his wish. "Could it be Amazon? I don't remember ordering anything." Rolling out of bed, he rubbed his eyes and he walked to the door. Whatever the disturbance was, he would take care of it quick so he could go to sleep. The days events had worn him down to the point where he simply wanted to escape.
Opening the door, Nasa quickly spat out a hello before his eyes recognized who was standing before him. Even after two years, he had never forgotten that girl. Now she stood before him, looking as though she had stepped out of his memory into reality. "Maybe the wish I made manifested as a dream." He thought to himself.
"Hey, long time no see." The first words he had heard from her in two years, he was so elated that she was really here that he couldn't even respond. Nasa let out a simple "eh" as he stared at the girl who had stolen his heart so long ago. "Oh yeah, I forgot to mention this. My name is Tsukasa."
Tsukasa...
Finally having her name, Nasa quickly felt all of the depression from earlier rushing away. Still unable to say anything back, he simply stared at the cute girl in front of him. "Anyways, can I come in?" Tsukasa spoke up after a moment, but all Nasa could do was stare in amazement that this was really happening. "Please? My husband?"
The Author's Desk
And that's a wrap. If you've read or watched the series, you know what comes after this. I simply wanted to write a short story of that day leading up to the moment when Tsukasa came back. I may revisit the series one day, if there's any interest. But for now, I hope you enjoyed this story.
Thanks for reading, and I'll see you at the next fanfic.
