Chapter 4

A/N: If you're seeing this now that means I survived the attack of Bill Avery Q^Q. I'm sorry for all of the cliffhangers but I have to so I won't spoil the story and also so Bill won't beat me to a pulp he already did that once in one day Q^Q. But I'm positive that he wouldn't hurt me in front of his wi- ops man now I spoiled the next fanfic in the future U-U. But don't get your hopes up for that little slip up let's move on before I reveal too much. Bill's still a little sour about what happened to Abigail so I'm trying to steer clear of a very ticked off Bill Avery, and believe me when I say if he ever pulls a gun out on you when he asks Abigail to leave the room run as fast as you can the moment Abigail leaves the room. Otherwise you'll be on the other side in a matter of moments. I would seriously keep Abigail around you whenever you write a story like this one then you won't get hurt by her loved one. T^T. I've learned that the hard way. Anyways I'll shut up now and let the credits roll so I can find some kind of armor to protect myself.

Abigail opened her eyes and saw the world around her going by her faster than normal. She shifted a little and saw that she was a little warmer than when she was out in the woods by herself with Hera. Abigail looked down and saw a familiar black coat around her to keep her warm. She groaned and started to sit up a little when an arm pulled back little. "Try not to move Abigail we're almost there and then Dr. Carson will fix you up." A male voice reassured and he made the horse go a little faster. Abigail leaned back into the man that just saved her trying to remember to thank him whenever she got the chance to see him again. Abigail slowly felt herself nodding off and on and closed her eyes a little bit when someone nudged her awake. She grunted wanting so badly to go back to sleep. "No Abigail I need you to stay awake for me." The voice commanded his voice a little shaky. "Can you do that for me?" The voice asked

Abigail barley registered what the voice had said to her before she nodded her head 'yes' and felt the man keeping a tight grip on her, loosen up a little. "Where's my horse Hera?" Abigail whispered her voice hoarse for calling for anyone for help the few minuets she was awake. "She's fine Abigail, me and Elizabeth found her, and is riding in front of us right now." The voice explained. Abigail turned her attention ahead and saw a blurry vision of Hera being ridden by Elizabeth. All she wanted to do was sleep, but something inside of her was keeping her from doing so. It was so easy to fall asleep right now, so why couldn't Abigail just fall asleep? Something about that voice made her want to stay awake for him but deep inside her. She found that it was just so easy to fall asleep, and join her Noah and Peter.

Abigail looked ahead of her and tried to keep her eyes open, when her vision turned fuzzy and there was a really loud ringing in her ears that she couldn't drown out. She blinked her eyes slowly her eyes lids becoming a lot heavier and harder to keep open. The crickets and the faraway hoof beats, was like a lullaby to her and was working like a charm. Abigail took in a few deep breaths and fell asleep in the man's arms. All of the sounds around her were slowly drifting away as she fell into a deep sleep.

Bill looked down at Abigail sleeping in his arms her skin pale as paper. Bill took a deep breath in through his nose calming down his nerves, and ran his fingers through Abigail's caramel blonde hair. His thoughts drifted back to when he first got Abigail; Hera.

*Flashback*

Bill put his hands over Abigail's eyes whispering in her ears that he had a surprise for her. Abigail laugh made Bill's heart soar as he led her out the door into the humid summer air. "Bill I swear if this is one of your jokes to get me dirty again I will hurt you." Abigail joked as they grew nearer and nearer to her surprise. Bill chuckled a little and led her towards the livery. "Can I open my eye now?" Abigail inquired as she tried to get Bill's hands off of her eyes. "No you can't yet." Bill soothed petting her hair with one hand still covering her eyes.

Bill stopped Abigail and sat her down on a hay bale in front of the livery and took his hands off of her eyes. "Now keep your eyes closed until I say so." Bill insisted. Abigail sighed and if her eyes were open she would have rolled her eyes in amusement. She nodded her head 'yes' Bill smiled, and he walked away to grab the horse. He petted the young Paso Fino mare on the muzzle and led her outside to Abigail. Bill stopped the mare in front of Abigail and knelt down in front of Abigail. "Ok now you can open your eyes." Bill whispered so only the caramel blonde hair girl could hear.

Abigail slowly opened up her warm chocolate brown eyes wincing at the brightness of the sun. She looked straight at the horse; her eyes widened and she placed her hands over her mouth in surprise, and slowly got up and walked over to the mare slowly. Abigail looked over at Bill who was smiling. She smiled as she started petting the Paso Fino who in return bumped her muzzle against Abigail's chest. "You-You're serious?" Abigail exclaimed looking over at Bill in shock.

Bill nodded slowly smiling and walked over to her and placed a kiss on her cheek. Abigail smile grew even more as she continued to pet the horse with Bill's arm wrapped around her waist. "Happy Birthday Abigail." Bill murmured and placed a kiss on top of her head. She looked back up at Bill. She smiled and leaned back into the inspector, her blue dress flowed with the winds. "What are you going to name her?" Bill asked looking down at Abigail. She paused in thought then petted the mare on the nose. "Hera." She answered Hera snorted and nuzzled Abigail wanting more attention.

*End of Flashback*

Tears threatened to fall when the flashback ended Bill held the woman in his arms close. "Bill." A voice spoke. He looked up and saw that his horse was tied to the post along with Hera and Elizabeth had her hand on his leg in a comforting way. Bill hadn't realized that they were already back in Hope Valley until now. "Do you want me to get Jack so he can help you take Abigail back to…" Elizabeth was cut off by Bill. "I failed to protect her. If Abigail and I hadn't had the argument then this would have never happened." Bill quaked as he watched Abigail sleep in his arms peacefully. Elizabeth removed her hand from Bill's leg, crossed her arms, and gave him a stern look. "Now Bill Avery you're many things but a failure isn't one of them." Elizabeth protested. He opened his mouth to protest but shut his mouth when Elizabeth sent him one of the glares Abigail would give him.

Bill really wanted to believe that those words were true but somewhere in his heart he couldn't help but feel guilty about what happened. Elizabeth sighed and walked away. "Abigail I'm sorry if only I could take back what happened tonight." Bill murmured as he held Abigail a little closer to him and kissed her on top of the head. "Excuse me sir but do you have any reason why you're handling that nice woman like that?" A voice joked. Bill looked up and saw Jack standing next to Elizabeth and Dr. Carson with a huge smile on his face. "Jack Thornton you should be the one to talk." Bill teased back.

Dr. Carson walked over to Bill and Abigail quickly. He first checked her pulse, and then checked her temperature, and finally checked the back of her head. "Luckily she didn't hit her head that bad, but I'm going to need to bring her back to my office to check her injuries out more." Carson explained giving all of them a sympathetic smile. Jack walked over and took Abigail out of Bill's arms, and Carson and Jack took her to the infirmary as they were walking Bill's black coat fell off of Abigail's shoulders, and onto the ground unnoticed by the others.

The inspector hopped off of the horse and onto the soft muddy ground he looked up and saw Elizabeth sitting on a bench crying. He walked over to her and kneeled down in front of her placing a hand on her knee.

*Blooper (Sorry I had to ….) *

Scar: OK YOU KIND SIR STEP AWAY! *Pushes Bill away*

Bill: WHAT WAS THAT FOR?!

Scar: *sniff* You're ruining mah ship!

My friend: Seriously Scar?!

Scar: YES REALLY!

My friend drags me away shaking her head as I cry.

My Friend: OK please continue so I don't have to sit on Scar! * To the writer* REDO!

*End of Blooper*

Elizabeth looked up her eyes were red and puffy, her makeup was running, and there was tear stains on her cheeks. "I can't believe that all happened to Abigail." Elizabeth croaked (You won't believe how many times I all most called this woman Isabelle! And not in a funny way! Q-Q) placing her chin in her hands. Bill sighed and took a seat next to Elizabeth. "How are you not breaking down right now when Abigail is badly injured right now?" Elizabeth asked wiping her tears on the sleeve of her pink and white dress. He shrugged and leaned back into the bench. "I guess I'm not that good at showing emotions on the outside." Bill guessed. Elizabeth fiddled with her dress and looked out at the slowly brightening sky.

"I guess we should probably go see Abigail now." Elizabeth muttered as she got up from her spot on the bench. Bill stared down at his shaking hands not really ready to see what condition Abigail was in. "Bill?" Elizabeth inquired. Bill looked up at her. "Are you coming?" Elizabeth asked again. The inspector eyes started watering up he shook his head "no". "I'm ready to see her yet." Bill answered. Elizabeth nodded understanding what Bill was feeling. She walked away from Bill and headed towards the infirmary.

She paused at clinic door her hand hovering over the door knob she took a deep breath in and opened the door. Elizabeth walked inside closing the door behind her and took a seat next to Jack who was passed out on the chair. She placed her head on Jack's shoulder and tried to think of everything but Abigail. Elizabeth had just started to nod off when Carson appeared from behind the white curtain. She sat straight up and looked at Dr. Carson. He dug his hands in his white coat and looked at Elizabeth with sullen eyes. "How is she?" Elizabeth inquired. Carson sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose and finally looked at Elizabeth. "Abigail is lucky to not have a concussion when she fell asleep, but she does however have a couple of bruised ribs and a really low temperature." Carson explained. The brunette paled a little. "She is sleeping right now but I'm not sure when she will wake up." Carson added then handed Elizabeth things what Abigail can or can't do.

Elizabeth took in a couple of calming breaths as she took everything in. "Can I see her?" She questioned crossing her fingers hoping that she can. Carson looked into Elizabeth's pleading eyes he sighed. "Yes you can but quickly though." Dr. Carson replied. Elizabeth expression brightened and quick walked to the curtain. She took a deep breath in and out, working up the nerve to walk in and see Abigail. The moment she stepped out from behind the curtain Elizabeth felt herself tear up a little. She walked over to her friend slowly and sat down in a chair next to her bed, Elizabeth put her hand over Abigail's tears falling slowly down her cheeks as she watched her friend's chest slowly rise up and down. "Just so you know Abigail I found someone to watch over Cody while you're here. He was very brave when I told him what happened though I doubt he won't stay away long." Elizabeth muttered and laughed a little wiping away more tears.

"I just wish I was there to support you in the café with Bill then nothing like this would have happened." Elizabeth cried. She heard the curtain behind her shift the brunette turned around to see Dr. Carson but she saw Bill and Cody standing there. She smiled softly and moved out of the chair to give them some space. Cody raced over and started hugging around on Abigail crying softly in her dress. Bill walked over and placed a hand on Cody's shoulder as a somewhat comforting way.

"Get well soon…" Cody paused and clutched the fabric of her dress breathing in her café sent. "Mom..." Cody whispered the last part so only he and Abigail could hear. He continued to cuddle with her until Elizabeth walked over and ushered him outside.

Bill sighed and looked down at his old wedding ring which he didn't even know why he kept the stupid thing all it caused was trouble. 'Why did I even keep this even when Nora and I split up a long time ago?' Bill wondered as he took off his ring and placed it in his pant pocket. He placed his hand over Abigail's and rubbed his thumb over her hand. Carson appeared from behind the curtain with a clipboard in hand. Bill looked his way with concern on his face. "How is doing so far?" Bill asked. Carson looked down at his clipboard flipping through all of the papers on it. "Everything seems to be fine on paper but physically she could be in a slight coma…" Carson trailed off. Bill stood up and looked at Dr. Carson growing even more concerned for Abigail. "I'm syncing a but in the mix." Bill guessed. Carson ran his hand through his hair not really sure how to explain this. "It is unclear when she will wake up but with her head injury it could be longer than expected." Carson explained

The inspector felt his heart drop in his chest when those words left his mouth. He sat down and put his head in his hands muttering some words that should not be re said. Bill finally looked up his hair was a mess from running his fingers back and forth in it. "What can we do to help?" Bill inquired. The doctor shrugged and tried to think back to his training in college. "The best we can do is talking to her constantly and… waiting for however long until she wakes up." Carson suggested placing a hand on Bill's shoulder.
