Melissa

"KANKERS!" exclaim the boys in unison.

"The who now?" I say as we are now facing three teenage girls. The redhead looks like she's the leader.

"And who's this with the glasses?" says the blonde.

"What do they call ya? Four Eyes?" says the blue-head, and she giggles with the blonde.

"Hey!" I shout to them while confidently pushing up my glasses. "I've got a name just like everyone else! Melissa."

"Ooh. She's a feisty one. And your accent sounds weird. What is it? Britainian?" says the redhead.

"Oy!" I say. "I will have you know that correction, it's British, not Britainian, and I'm from South Africa. There's a difference between the two. And I like it, weird or otherwise!"

"Ooh," says the blonde. "What's that?" She's pointing to my silver glittery half crescent moon necklace. "Kinda like it."

I hold it close. "Please don't. It's precious to me."

"Precious to me" mocks the blue-head. "And what are you doing with our boyfriends?"

I turn to the Eds with confusion. No way can these girls be their girlfriends. They seem too mean and maybe a little psycho to be that.

"HERO MODE!" Double-D and Eddy shout simultaneously. Ed widens his eyes and immediately picks me and the boys up like a sudden Superman.

"Hang tight!" Double-D says to me. And Ed begins to sprint like Flash.

"Hey, come back here!" cries the blonde.

They are chasing us down the street. We all are holding on tightly to each other.

"Guys, who are those girls? And them saying they're your girlfriends?"

Eddy sighs. "It's a long story."

Finally, we find a big bush to hide in.

"Oh man, they're gone again!" says the blonde.

"We'll get them next time, girls," says the redhead.

"And that other girl with the glasses better not end up with one of them," says the blue-head.

And they all take a different path.

"Coast is clear," says Ed, being the first to slightly peek from the bush.

We appear from the big plant. I sit down close to the street pavement. The others join in, with Eddy sitting next to me on the one side, and Double-D and Ed on the other.

"Is everyone all right?" I ask.

They respond with nods.

"I believe we owe you an explanation about what just happened."

I say. "Yes please, Double-D."

Eddy says. "Those are the Kanker sisters. The red one is Lee, the blue one is Marie, and the blonde May. Lee likes me, Marie likes Double-D, and May likes Ed."

Double-D says. "They've been harassing us with their obsessive and frustrating affections over the years since we were twelve. Four years later and it is still an annoying occurrence. It's like never-ending flu."

"And they scare us," says Ed.

"Oh, now I understand," I say. "And they just always assume, in a rather psychotic manner mind you, that you guys are their boyfriends?"

"Sadly yes," says Eddy.

"Oh jeez, guys. I'm sorry. To have been dealing with this kind of situation for a few years."

"It's okay. At least we're glad we don't see them every day. They live in the trailer park not too far from here," says Double-D.

"Good to know," I say as I reach my phone to check the time. "Oh, goodness! It's almost five and my dad said to be home at that period." Then I lit up. "Hey, do you guys want to walk home with me? This way, we all be safe."

"I think that's a splendid idea," Double-D says.

The other two grin and nod.
