Bill wakes up in the Hogwarts hospital room. It's not so weird for him to do that — he's spent years and years waking up there after Quidditch injuries — but he graduated from Hogwarts years ago. He's not quite sure why he's back.
His head is pounding, he knows, and his mouth is bone dry. The side of his face hurts, also, and he's not sure why his arms won't move when he wants to go and touch it. Bill blinks, and the feeling of closing his eyes feels so good that he wants to drift right back off to sleep, but he also wants to know what's going on and why he's in the hospital room.
He has a vague memory of his father sending him a patronus, of something about Dumbledore's Army, of some sort of fight at Hogwarts.
He's not sure if any of that was real.
"Oh good, you're awake," someone says, and in another moment Madam Pomfery is standing over him, looking fifty years older than how Bill remembers her. "Drink this," she says, holding up a goblet with some sort of steaming drink in it.
He opens his mouth to ask what's in the cup and Madam Pomfery takes the opportunity to force the drink down his throat. It tastes awful, but Bill forces the entire thing down.
"What was that?" he chokes out when the goblet is empty. His throat feels like it's sandpaper and he feels like could drink an entire lake right now.
Madam Pomfery hesitates, like the answer is painful, and she leans out of Bill's curtained area for a second.
"Is Remus here?" Bill heres, and he's not sure why he needs Remus. He's obviously injured in some way, but he's not sure why Remus would be the one who's there instead of his family.
There's some shuffling around and some muttering Bill can't make out and then Remus is standing in front of him.
"Bill," he says, smiling thinly. "How are you feeling?"
"Tired," Bill croaks out. "And thirsty."
It's weird, though, because Bill knows he's injured, but he feels strangely strong. Maybe it's just the adrenaline.
"Bill," Remus says, and his voice is soft. Bill wonders if someone died. Maybe Fleur. Or even worse, maybe one of his siblings, or one of his parents. His stomach drops. "You were bitten by Greyback."
Bill frowns. He knows who Greyback is, of course, but he doesn't understand. He was bitten by Greyback? He also has a vague memory of the night he was called being a full moon.
He was bitten by Greyback.
He —
"You're a werewolf."
