Conceal, don't feel.
Harry has those three words drilled into his head. His aunt and uncle had told him that ever since he was little, ever since his first sign of his powers. They had given him gloves, they had locked him in his room, they had hidden him from the entire world.
They had kept on telling him "conceal, don't feel". Harry knows, he knows, that his powers just get worse if he's more emotional.
Still, he's not really sure how he's supposed to conceal it all. He's eleven. He's spent six years with his aunt and uncle and cousin pretending he doesn't exist. He's spent six years practically trapped in his bedroom. Even if they wanted to visit him instead of keeping him locked away forever, Harry doesn't think his supposed family would survive the coldness of it. Ice lines the walls and the floor and the ceiling. He's supposed to not be doing that. He's supposed to be repressing his emotions so no ice gets out.
Still, sometimes he'll lay awake in bed and think about the situation he was put in. It's not fair. He hates that he has these ice powers. He hates that his aunt and uncle hate them. He wishes his parents were still alive. He knows, he just knows, that they would accept him for who he is, powers and all.
Harry can shoot snow and ice from his hands, but he's still a kid. He just wants for someone to realize that. Maybe then he can conceal his feelings. When there's less of them.
Harry's thoughts are interrupted, though, when there's a sound that he hasn't heard in so long that he's not actually sure he's herding correctly.
For the first time in a long time, longer than Harry can remember, there's a knock on his door.
His cousin's voice leaks through the door with, "Do you wanna build a snowman?"
