3rd POV

The sound of a revving engine had slowly caused Cinder to awaken. When her eyes had fully opened she found that she was inside a car in the passenger's seat held in place by a seatbelt. Beside her in the driver's seat was the Kurgan. She was gravely concerned how she had come to be in her current predicament. The last thing she remember was going to the abandoned factory with Emerald and Mercury to meet with the Kurgan. Everything else was a blur. Her concern intensified when she came to realize that her body was numb.

"I see you're finally awake," the Kurgan with his raspy voice. "I was beginning to think I hit you too hard."

"Where are we?" Cinder asked. "Why can't I move?"

"You're paralyzed from the neck down," the Kurgan answered. "I didn't want you to get any ideas. Don't worry. It will wear off eventually."

"What did you do with Emerald and Mercury?" Cinder asked.

"They're right where I left them," the Kurgan said. "Lying on the factory floor."

All of what he had said terrified Cinder. She was powerless against him. She had even tried to use her Maiden powers but to no avail. "What are you going to do?" she asked. "You're going to defile me aren't you?"

"I considered that but it won't give me the results I want," the Kurgan answered. "You see, with your refusal to let me go to Mountain Glen I've come to realize that you and I have trust issues. I brought you with me hoping we could fix that with a little game."

The Kurgan's words scared her. "A game?"

The Kurgan turned his head and looked at Cinder with a smile. "Have you ever played Chicken?"

"What?" Cinder asked growing more fearful.

The Kurgan turned on the car's stereo on and a speed metal song began to blare though the speakers. He immediately turned the wheel moving to the left side of the road toward oncoming traffic. He then turned Cinder's attention to the vehicles in front of them. Then the car began to accelerate. "HERE WE GO! HAHAHAHAHAHA!"

"WATCH OUT!" Cinder screamed as a car came at them only to swerve away at the last second. More vehicles followed doing the same with some passing them safely while others spun out and crashed.

The Immortal alternated between swerving dangerously close to the other cars and letting go of the steering wheel. All the while he mocked Cinder's cries by feigning terror and surprise of their situation. He would also laugh as he waved his hands in the air like an excited child.

Cinder didn't know how many people were hurt from what the Kurgan has done. She was more concerned with her own well-being. She felt a slight sense of relief when the Immortal moved back to the right side of the road, but the terror returned when he had begun to drive on the sidewalk.

"Excuse me," the Kurgan said as he came up to a group of people at full speed. On impact they were blown across the length of the vehicle leaving streaks of red across the windows. He laughed as he turned on the wipers cleaning the blood off the windshield.

Cinder had never seen so many people die so violently before. To her killing was a necessity of her duty to her mistress, but for him it was game. The Kurgan took pure pleasure out of what he had done.

The Kurgan had returned to driving on the road. While the car accelerated he banged his hands against the steering wheel to the beat of the drums in the song. He passed through many red lights leaving a wake of head-on collisions as he did. Further ahead he saw a group of semi-trucks on the left side of the road. He swerved over to meet them.

"LOOK OUT!" Cinder cried as the trucks came closer blowing their horns.

"Look out! Whoa!" the Kurgan screamed jokingly covering his eyes with his hand.

Cinder continued to scream as the car moved between the trucks. Once they had made it past them the car went back to the right side of the road. She tried to calm herself down but the Kurgan turned off his stereo and then he began to sing.

"This will be the day we've waited for."

"Shut up," Cinder whispered.

"This will be the day we open up the door."

"Shut up," Cinder repeated.

"Come on sing it with me," the Kurgan continued. "Welcome to a world of new solutions."

"Shut up!" Cinder shouted.

The Kurgan proceeded to scream in Cinder's face. "WELCOME TO A WORLD OF BLOODY EVOLUTION!"

"SHUT UP!" Cinder screamed causing the Kurgan to laugh.

The Kurgan was nearing the factory. When he looked at Cinder she was breathing heavily and seemed ready to pass out from exhaustion. He chuckled to himself. "Are you still against me going to Mountain Glenn?"

She looked at him terrified beyond belief. All that the Immortal had done was to scare her into changing her mind. What made things worse was that it worked. "Go ahead," she whined. "Get out of here."

"You see," the Kurgan said with smile. "We were able to resolve those issues quite nicely. You even got to learn a few things about me. One, I always get what I want. And two…" He grabbed Cinder by her hair and held her so the two were face. "No matter how powerful you are, no matter how many friends you have, nothing can protect you from me." The Immortal ran his tongue once up the side of her face lapping up her trails of tears as he did. "I look forward to seeing you again dear Maiden. Keep the car. I don't need it anymore."

Cinder watched as the Kurgan undid his seatbelt and grabbed his sword from the backseat as he left the car. She tracked his movement slowly walking to the front of the vehicle illuminated by the headlights.

The Immortal held his arms out to side. "REMEMBER WHAT I TOLD YOU CINDER FALL!" he shouted with a smile. "IT'S BETTER TO BURN OUT THAN TO FADE AWAY!" The headlight went out and the Kurgan disappeared into the blackness. All that remained was his evil laugh with too faded away into the night.

Slowly, the numbness in Cinder's body began to disappear. She reached over for her seatbelt. Once released she fell out of the car and hit the ground. Feeling returned to her legs and she picked herself up. The Kurgan had stopped the car in front of the abandoned factory he was residing in. Then she realized both Emerald and Mercury were still inside. She rushed to the door and stopped herself to feel her face. Tear from her crying earlier still stained it. She quick wiped them away and regained her composure. She couldn't let them see her fear. She needed to be strong.
