Yang POV
The moment we landed (Y/N) separated from us to search for the Kurgan. After that we had spent the day fighting Grimm until finally settling down in a ruined building for the night. A few minutes had passed since I relieved Ruby of guard duty, and I began to make rounds keeping an eye out for threats. As I did I thought about my conversation with both Weiss and Blake. I knew the reason why I wanted to become a Huntress, but how would the end of the Gathering effect my dream? What would become of (Y/N) when it was over? Then I heard a voice coming from the floor below. I readied Ember Celia in case I had to fight, but as I descended the voice I heard was singing. "Who wants to live forever?" the voice sang. "Who wants to live forever?" I reached the lower floor to find (Y/N) sitting on a broken windowsill with his sword by his side.
"Who dares to love forever when love must die?" (Y/N) continued to sing.
"I thought you were weren't good at singing," I said causing him to turn around.
"I said I wasn't much of a singer," (Y/N) replied. "How are you holding up? Did you kill any Grimm?"
"I did," I answered. "You can't imagine how many there were. It took all of us working together to beat them all." I came closer to (Y/N) and took a seat beside him on the windowsill. "I take it you didn't find the Kurgan."
"No," (Y/N) said. "I've searched all over and I couldn't find him let alone sense him. I know he's here. He wouldn't have contacted me otherwise."
"Well we didn't find anything either," I told him. Looking at him I noticed his short spikey (dye/c) hair which bothered me with how it didn't fit his personality. "Why did you cut your hair and color it like that?"
The Immortal chuckled and ran his fingers across the top of his head. "The same reason the Kurgan shaved his off," he said with a smile. "As far as everyone else knows I'm dead. This way I can walk around and no one will recognize me."
Hearing (Y/N) talk about his death made me think of when I heard the news this morning. "I'm still mad at you about that," I said my tone showing a hint of anger.
"I already told you I'm sorry," (Y/N) said.
I sighed out of frustration. "And that makes me even madder," I told him. "Because I don't think you are. I think you don't care whether or not we thought you were dead."
"I you were an Immortal you would understand Yang," (Y/N) said. "You would understand the necessity to cut ties with those you love for their sake and yours. It took me fifteen hundred years to learn that lesson. A dying old woman regretting that she couldn't have your children. Having to carry and bury her after she passes. Spending every year, every century trying to hold on to the time you had together because they go on with you that way."
"That's your problem (Y/N)," I said. "I love you and it hurts me knowing you've locked yourself away in your own private world of memories. No future. Unable to care. Afraid."
"Of course I'm afraid!" (Y/N) shouted making me jump. "I spent my life believing that the Gathering would never come, or I would be dead before it did. Now it's down to him and me. I don't fear losing to him. What scares me is what happens if I win. I get the Prize what then? What future is there for me?"
"You have me!" I shouted which caused his eyes to widen in disbelief. "Even if I'm mortal I want to be by your side. I don't care if you're immortal. As long as I can be with you I'll be happy." I couldn't believe what I had just said to (Y/N). He seemed to be just as astonished as I was.
(Y/N) stood up and drew his blade. For a moment I thought he planned on attacking me, but the Immortal held the blade out in front of him with its tip pointed to the ceiling and his hands clasped over each other. "Grab it."
"Why?" I asked.
"Trust me," (Y/N) told me with a smile.
I stood up from the windowsill and stood in front of the Immortal and reached out for the sword's grip. I placed my hands beneath his clasping them tight.
(Y/N) took a deep breath and closed his eyes. When he opened them electricity sparked from behind them giving off a ghostly white glow. The same glow had begun to come from his sword and started to spread to our hands.
I grew scared as the air around us picked up around us and the glow covered our bodies. The fear slowly disappeared as warmth spread through me.
"The sensation you are feeling is my Quickening," (Y/N) said as his voice echoed through my mind. "Allow yourself to feel."
The Quickening was not painful like I thought it would be. The feeling was pleasant unlike anything I had felt before.
"Allow yourself to feel my being," (Y/N) said. "My heart beating. My blood coursing. Can you feel it?"
The Immortal's words confused me. I kept my grip tight on the sword's grip as the pleasant sensation faded and was replaced with a tightness in my chest. It was the same feeling that I felt watching (Y/N) walk away from the church. What I felt that night on the balcony. It was him. "I feel it," I whispered. "I feel it."
(Y/N) smiled as the glow disappeared from his eyes. "So you understand," he said as the glow around his body started to fade. "Let go."
I released the grip and fell to my knees. Then I looked back up to (Y/N) watching as he sheathed his blade. "You feel the same way about me."
"There are many things I admire about you Yang Xiaolong," the Immortal told me. "You're strong, brave, and compassionate like Summer. You're stubborn to a fault like Raven, but you are also thinking about others. I thought that my immortality would keep you from loving me. But seeing your reaction to my return this morning and what you've said now I've realized that I can no longer ignore these feelings. So I shared my Quickening, something I've never done before, to prove them to you."
I couldn't begin to describe the happiness I was feeling at that moment. Tears started to run down my face as I got onto my feet and rushed (Y/N) knocking him to the ground. I wrapped my arms around him holding him tight. "You don't need to be alone anymore," I said. "I'm not going anywhere."
As I held (Y/N) I felt his hand against my hair. "I'm going to fight him Yang," he said. "Not for the Prize. I want to beat him so you won't have to cry for me again."
3rd POV
Sometime later both Yang and (Y/N) returned to where the rest of the team was. "Hey Weiss, it's your…Ruby?" Yang questioned with concern. "Hey, where's Ruby?"
"What?" Oobleck said surprised.
It was then that the sound of barking turned Yang's attention to a black and white corgi. "Zwei?"
"What's going on?" Blake asked getting up with Weiss.
"Grab your weapons!" Oobleck exclaimed. "Your leader may be in trouble."
The five followed Zwei into a cave trusting in the dog's tracking abilities. Eventually, they had come to a hole in the ground with the weapon Crescent Rose lying beside it.
"Ruby's scythe!" Yang exclaimed.
"Oh no," Blake responded.
Weiss reached the hole with the others and looked down. "Do you think she fell?"
"Fell?" Oobleck asked as he and (Y/N) caught up with the three.
"Down there," Weiss replied.
Both the professor and the Immortal looked down the hole. It was at that moment that both men came to the same realization.
"The village," (Y/N) said.
"Of course!" Oobleck shouted. "Of course, OF COURSE, OF COURSE! How could I be so stupid?"
"What are you two talking about?" Yang asked.
"The expansion of Vale failed due to Grimm attacks," (Y/N) answered. "The inhabitants fled to the metro tunnels that lead back to the main city, and eventually started to live down there."
"What does that mean?" Yang asked.
"I means that we're not looking for an underground crime network," Oobleck said. "We're looking for an 'underground' crime network."
"When the Grimm got into the underground village Vale sealed off the tunnels to prevent them from reaching the main city," (Y/N) said. "The White Fang must have unsealed it so they can organize outside the city. If Ruby is down there we have to find her." The Immortal readied to jump down the hole only to freeze in place. His eyes widened as a buzzing sensation ran through his head. As soon as it started it came to an end. "We need to hurry."
"What is it?" Blake asked.
"I just felt the Kurgan," (Y/N) answered. "He's down there and now he knows that I'm here. If he has Ruby then things have gotten a lot worse."
