Kerchak had been waiting to eat off Tarzan, since he betrayed him with a whacking club under a decade back. Having never known the fact that he has not much fertility left, he has an adopted offspring named Teru to do much of the Job because he's a boy ape.
Kerchak also keeps his wife Mita in check, 'cause she's even worse.
