"Tori, is he never going to stop crying?" Draco asked, burying his face in the pillow.
"It's funny that you think I know," Astoria said, running her hand through his hair. "But you go see what he wants, because I birthed him and I feed him every day. I'm tired and I deserve a break."
"You're going to hold that over my head until he's in school, aren't you?"
"Of course not," she replied with a sweet smile on her face. "A lot longer than that."
Draco grunted, but rolled out of bed. Scorpius was restless in his crib by his parents' bed. Neither Draco nor Astoria had been able to make him sleep in his bedroom. They had grown too attached to him and wanted him near them all the time, even with the downside of a very loud crying once in a while. Scorpius was usually a quiet baby, but when he decided that he was going to be fussy, then he was going to be fussy.
Draco picked up the baby and rocked him back and forth. Scorpius was wrapped up in the most silver blanket that Draco had ever seen in his life. He was absolutely sure that his mum had it made from actual silver. Scorpius stopped his crying immediately, focusing his grey eyes at his father. His eyes scanned Draco's face from top to bottom, and when he decided that was nothing else to see, he started crying again.
Scorpius knew what he wanted and, if he was being honest, so did Draco. He felt his cheeks burning with the mere thought of doing it. Draco knew that Astoria would never make fun of him, but he had been raised to care about what other people thought of him and that turned him into one of the most self-conscious people in the world. For his son, he could put it aside. He laid Scorpius back down in the crib.
"Sweet Merlin," he heard Astoria say mutter under her breath as he took off his shirt.
He shot her a wink and a laugh before picking up Scorpius again. He unwrapped him from the silver blanket and held him closer to his chest. And then he sang. Draco sang for his crying baby the same song his mum sang to him when he was a kid. He had heard Narcissa sing it to Scorpius a few times and picked up the lyrics quickly enough. Now, it was the only thing that made Scorpius stop crying. That song and Draco's warm skin.
As he sang, he felt the embarrassment leave gradually. He was not completely comfortable with doing that, but it was better. For someone who couldn't even sing in the shower, Draco thought he was doing great, thank you very much. Scorpius and Astoria seemed to agree. Scorpius had stopped his crying immediately, and Astoria had propped herself on her elbows to watch.
Draco nearly let out a sigh of relief when Scorpius' eyes closed, and he put the baby back down in his crib, only for him to wake up and start crying again.
"I guess you'll have to bring him here with you," Astoria said.
"Yeah, I guess so," he replied, holding the baby in his arms again.
"Pity, really," she added.
Draco laughed. "My my, Mrs. Malfoy. For someone who claimed to be too tired to take care of their infant baby, you seem perfectly awake."
"Oh, shut it. None of this would have happened if you had just kept your shirt on."
"Yeah, yeah. Of course, it was my fault."
Astoria smiled as Draco kissed her forehead and placed a calmer Scorpius between them. Scorpius took one of Astoria's fingers in his tiny hand and curled up against Draco's chest. As he looked at his wife and son, Draco realized that he would embarrass himself a thousand times over for them. They were worth it.
