"...ru..."
Movement, beside him.
"Lor...sess...ru"
A voice...he knows that voice...
"Lord Sessho...wake u..."
Light, he saw light. Slowly he opened his eyes, everything was a blurry mess to him.
"Lord Sesshomaru...your awake..."
Gods, his head hurt. He saw movement beside him, he forced his vision to focus. There kneeling over him, was Rin, gripping Tenseiga in both of her hands, tears in her eyes. Bakusaiga lay on the ground next to her.
"Rin..."
He tried to move, and pain shot throughout his entire body. He hissed and tried to relax, his breathing labored, head throbbing.
"Lord Sesshomaru, y-your hurt, d-don't try to move..."
He was hurt? Well considering the pain he was in, that much was obvious. He attempted to assess the damage. He was laying on the ground up against the cave wall, his armor was completely shattered. Blood oozed down the right side of his forehead, and his body was covered in yokai burns. His right arm was most definitely broken, his shoulder shattered, a few ribs broken too. Gritting his teeth, he propped all his weight on his left arm as he tried to sit up, that was a mistake, his body spasmed in pain and he collapsed to the ground once more, coughing up blood. He didn't know what was worse, the pain he was in, or hearing Rin start to cry.
"No...no...I did this...I hurt you...im so sorry...I never meant..."
She did this? What was she talking about?
"Rin...what happened...where is?"
He took a sweeping glance around the cave, and was even more confused. He was no longer in the center of the room, but up against the wall, and where they once were there was a large burn on the ground. The snake demon, was also everywhere...literally, pieces of the snakes body littered the cave. What...the...hell...happened. He turned his gaze back to Rin, who looked down at him like she had betrayed him.
"I...wanted to help you escape, the snake attacked me. It grabbed me with its mouth, so I stabbed it with Bakusaiga, it started glowing, and yokai poured out of it, it was so bright, so I closed my eyes. But when the light stopped...and I opened my eyes."
Rin started crying again, tears flowing down her face. So thats what happened. Bakusaiga had acted on its own to save both him and Rin. That explains the damage, he had gotten caught up in the blast from his sword, went flying, and slammed against the wall.
"You, you weren't moving, So I thought...I grabbed Tenseiga...nothing hapened...because i'm human I thought I couldn't...your covered in so much blood..."
She was crying freely now, and his eyes softened as he watched her. She thought she killed me, and she grabbed Tenseiga...Rin. He tested out moving his pelt, and felt no pain, good. He reached out mokomoko, and coiled it around Rin.
"Rin..I w-will heal...Do not cry...this was not your doing. Bakusaiga acted on its own."
Rins crying softened.
"Bakusaiga hurt you?"
"No...Bakusaiga saved you...saved us. I was simply...caught in the blast. Do you understand?"
Rin wiped her eyes and nodded. He still knew some part of her believe she had done this, but he would quash those thoughts should she ever bring them up again. Besides, he needs to focus oh healing himself, he hated to admit it, but he was in bad shape.
"Should...Should I go find help? Find Lord Inuyasha?"
No, most definitely not, especially not Inuyasha."
"No Rin, I will heal, I just n-need to rest."
"...But my lord...i've never seen you hurt like this."
"Are...you sure about that?"
"Huh?"
"I was like this...when we first met, remember?"
Rins eyes softened at the memory, and she smiled.
"Oh yeah...you were. But still not this bad."
"Indeed...at least your not...dumping water on me this time."
He heard Rin giggle, and he allowed himself a chuckle as well, which was followed by pain. Best not do that again. Silence fell between them, the only sound was Sesshomarus strained breaths.
"Lord Sesshomaru...this may not be the best time, but I've been meaning to ask you something..."
"Oh?"
Sesshomaru tilted his head best he could, so he could look at her, their eyes met, and Rin could see the pain in his eyes.
"What...is on your mind, then?"
Rin began to fidget, and twiddled her thumbs together.
"Well, its just that-"
"Sesshomaru!?"
Rin jerked her head towards the voice coming from the entrance of the cave, a voice Sesshomaru knew all to well.
"Its Lord Inuyasha!"
"I can see that..."
"He can help!"
"Rin..."
"Im sorry Lord Sesshomaru, but your hurt bad, you need help."
"Rin...no"
"Lord Inuyasha! Were in here!"
Rin cupped her hands to her mouth and shouted, and Sesshomaru groaned and rolled his eyes. He didn't need his brother, of all people, to see him like this. But sure enough like a raging bull, Inuyasha rushed into the open cave, the Miko and the slayers fire cat right behind him.
"Lady Kagome!"
"Rin!"
Kagome rushed over to Rin and embraced her in a huge hug, while Inuyasha knelt by Sesshomarus side.
"Jeezz, what happened to you? You look like hell."
"S-seeing as i've been...to hell once...that is an...accurate statement."
Did Sesshomaru just make a joke? Inuyasha looked around the cave to try to piece together the battle that took place, dead snake demons everywhere, a very large and very dead snake scattered about, a giant burn in the center of the room, yeah, Inuyasha got nothing.
"The hell...did something explode or what?"
"...In a manor of sp-speaking, you could say there was an explosion."
Inuyasha looked down to Sesshomaru once more, his breathing was heavy and labored, covered in blood and burns. Inuyasha felt his ears lower, hes never seen Sesshomaru hurt so badly like this.
"Alright...lets get you out of here."
"Inuyasha...don't touch-"
Inuyasha leaned down and grabbed Sesshomarus arm and pulled him up, but froze when a strangled cry of pain escaped him.
"Inuyasha!"
Kagome scolded him while he gently lowered Sesshomaru back to the ground, his eyes glossed over in pain.
"Shit...sorry, sorry. Your hurt bad huh."
Kagome moved to kneel next to Sesshomaru as well.
"Sesshomaru, does it feel like anything is broken? It looks like you hit your head pretty bad, you might have a concussion."
"My right arm...my shoulder...I have many broken ribs."
Inuyasha cursed for trying to move him so quickly without thinking. Kagome placed her hand on his chest, over the hole burned through the side of his kimono, above his red and blistered skin.
"Sesshomaru...these burns..."
"They are of n-no consequence...I will heal, as I have said several times."
His eyes darted to Rin, who smiled sheepishly.
"We still need to get you out of here. Do you think you can manage it if I pull you onto my back?"
Sesshomaru thought for a moment, he loathed to accept help from anyone, but he could also see reason. He was in no condition to actually refuse any help offered, least he remain in this damned cave, and that damaged his already broken pride. He looked into Rins worried eyes, and Sighed softly. He gave in, if only to appease Rin.
"I will...endeavor."
Inuyasha nodded, and carefully, he grabbed Sesshomarus left arm and pulled him up into a sitting position, leaning him against the wall, wincing as Sesshomaru hissed in pain through gritted teeth and coughed up more blood. He moved his back to face Sesshomaru, and pulled his arm over his shoulder, Sesshomaru fell forward to lean on Inuyashas back. Inuyasha then carefully scooped him up under the back of his legs and stood up.
"There, that wasn't so bad."
Sesshomaru panted in pain and shot a glare at Inuyasha.
"S-speak for yourself."
Inuyasha looked at Kagome, and she turned to face Rin, whos worried gaze was locked onto Sesshomaru.
"Rin, come with me, were going to ride on Kirara ok? Well be right there with them, I promise."
Rin nodded, and went to scoop up Tenseiga and Bakusaiga. Looking around, she spotted the dagger on the floor and grabbed that as well, sticking it in her kimono pocket.
"Don't worry Lord Sesshomaru, I'll hold onto your swords for you until you get better!"
"Thank you...Rin. Just...be careful with Bakusaiga."
Sesshomaru gave a small grin and Rin gave a nervous laugh, Inuyasha was sure he was missing something here. They made their way out of the cave, and into the forest, fresh air, finally. Inuyasha took off and dashed through the trees, leaping from tree branch to tree branch as fast as he could, Kirara right behind them carrying Rin and Kagome. Inuyasha heard Sesshomaru grunt in pain with every bump, and tried as best he could to keep the ride smooth.
"So...whats the full story? What actually happened back there to beat you up so badly?"
"I was caught...up in an explosion...as I mentioned before."
"Yeah, well, what caused the explosion?"
"...Bakusaiga."
Inuyasha turned to glace back at his brother.
"Wait wait, hold up. You were injured by your own sword!? How!?"
"It is a long story...and I wish to conserve...my strength at the moment."
Inuyasha scoffed, and picked up his pace. He was hit by a blast from his own sword? No wonder hes in such bad shape, hell hes lucky hes not dead! He needed to get Sesshomaru back to the village to recover, quick.
"Fine, i'll let up this time, but you have some serious explaining to do later."
The two fell silent, the silence stretched on for a while, and Sesshomaru felt himself grow tired suddenly. He did his best to stay awake, to stay alert, but his exhaustion got the better of him, his eyes grew heavy. He finally gave in, and let his eyes close, darkness taking over him once again.
