Heroin and Vodka

Author's Note: Hey guys. Sorry, I know it's been a while since I last updated. It's just been a whirlwind these past few months. Online classes have started up in the midst of the lockdown and it's been a few tough weeks. Here, the lockdown has been imposed for over 1.5 months already. I'm dying to see the outside world. Anyways, speaking of the outside world, the second half of Season 6 has started airing and its already been 4 episodes. Can't believe there's only 2 episodes left for the season finale! I've been following this show ever since 2016. The journey is about to end. Well. Officially, that is. This story is far from over. Anyways, I don't want to ramble on any more. Without further ado, let's begin.

Disclaimer: I do not own How to Get Away With Murder. Its plot and characters are the sole property of Pete Nowalk and Shonda Rhimes.

Chapter 41

"Ok. Isaac, I need you to talk to one of the other kids. You need to get some information for me which will be crucial if we're going to get ahead of Jorge." Jessica replied as they both approached the elevator. Isaac pressed the button and as they awaited its arrival, Jessica continued.

"We need to file an injunction. Immediately. I'll get to that straight away." The elevator arrived. As Jessica stepped in, she turned to face Isaac.

She could see the dark circles underneath his eyes. It was obvious to anyone that the night's events had tired him out. She couldn't help but feel sorry that the man was involved in this mess. The elevator doors had almost slid shut when Jessica stopped them. She stepped out of the elevator. Isaac's eyes widened in surprise.

"What are you—"

But Jessica cut him off.

"You're clearly in no condition to talk to anyone in your current state." She took his hand and pulled him into the elevator. "Don't worry. I'll handle the talking." she replied with a smile, the elevator slid shut.

As Isaac approached the lobby, he spotted Micheala, Connor and Oliver at a corner. They were seated silently, huddled together and whispering.

Isaac sighed. They could be a little inconspicuous given the circumstances.

As he approached the group, Micheala's head snapped up catching sight of him.

"What are you doing here?" she asked sharply. "How's Laurel? Where's Annalise?"

Isaac held up his hand.

"Calm down, Micheala. One question at a time." he replied.

"Calm down?" Micheala asked, her voice rising. "You're telling me to calm down?! Do you even know—"

But Isaac cut him off immediately.

"Micheala, lower your voice!" Isaac replied sharply. "Unless you wish to inform everyone in this hospital that is."

"What are you—"

"I'd suggest listening to him for a change, young lady." Jessica replied, as she came up behind Isaac. Micheala's head snapped to the direction of the voice. No sooner had she seen the woman, her eyes widened in shock.

"Oh my god! You're Jessica Pearson, aren't you?" she replied, her voice climbing to hysterically high levels.

"Guilty as charged." Jessica replied as she came up beside Isaac.

"Micheala, you know this woman?" Connor asked as he eyed Jessica suspiciously. She turned to face him.

"Of course I know who she is. She is one of the best legal minds Harvard has produced in decades. She is the youngest known managing partner of an international law firm! She—"

But Jessica cut her off.

"While I would love to hear my praises sung, that is not what I'm here for." she replied sharply. "There'll be time for introductions later. Micheala…" she eyed the girl in front of her critically, "…it was completely foolhardy and nothing short of reckless what you have done along with Mr. Hampton and Mr. Millstone." Mr. Walsh here…" she looked up, meeting Connor's eyes, "…was much more sensible and you three should have listened to him instead of following up on Ms. Castillo's impetuous plan."

"Hey." Micheala retorted. "We didn't—"

But Jessica cut her off once gain.

"I'm not done." she replied, glaring at her. "What is done is done. Now I'm here to assess how much damage you three have inflicted and to initiate damage control. As you're the closest to Ms. Castillo, I need you to tell me anything that you might think is relevant to this case."

Micheala's eyes widened.

Isaac meanwhile walked over to a water container and filled a cup with water. Walking back to the group, he handed the cup to Micheala.

"Here." he replied, softly. "Drink this. You'll feel better."

Micheala took the cup with unsteady hands. She hesitatingly took a sip.

"Micheala. You must tell us anything that you think is relevant to this case. We're losing precious minutes here. Each second that you don't talk could bring Ms. Castillo's baby closer to danger." she replied sharply.

Micheala's vision began to swim as the lobby started to become hazy.

"I-I'ts our fault. I-if only we hadn't gone through with this, Laurel would still have her baby and all this wouldn't be happening right now." She began to sob incoherently.

"Micheala, focus! This isn't the time to break down. I need you to tell me anything you might know!" Jessica replied, exasperated.

This only served to send the girl into more sobs.

"Jessica, let me handle this." Isaac replied, as he stepped forward.

"Isaac, we don't have the time to molly coddle her. We have to—"

But this time, Isaac cut her off.

"Trust me." he replied firmly.

He took Micheala and gently sat her down on one of the seats, occupying the one next to her.

"Micheala?" Isaac replied calmly. "Look at me."

Despite sobbing, Michela looked up at the man. Isaac could see the tears streaming down her face as her eyes were scrunched up.

"You are Laurel's friend, right?" Isaac asked softly.

She nodded hesitatingly.

"You want her to get her baby back from her father?" Isaac continued.

Micheala took a deep breath before nodding once again, this time more firmly.

Isaac nodded determinedly.

"So, you must tell us anything you know which might help us. Do you understand?" he asked.

She nodded in reply. She took another deep breath.

"Laurel went off her antidepressants. Her OB told her to and—"

"—now her father is going to use that against her." Jessica finished. "We need to request an injunction immediately."

Isaac nodded He turned to face Micheala. He gently took her hand in his.

"Micheala, everything will be alright. You did well. Now, go home and freshen up. You look like a mess." he replied with a chuckle.

The small joke was enough to invoke a weak smile from her. She nodded.

Isaac got up.

"We'll take care of this, Micheala. I promise." Isaac replied firmly.

Meanwhile, Jessica was watching the man with surprise. She had never been able to fathom how the man could invoke such trust amongst others. It wasn't something that she had seen in others. Especially given how people could be so manipulative these days. But deep in her heart, she knew that the man was the real deal. Life had dealt him an unfair hand. But the man continued to persevere despite the odds.

She was glad she knew him.

She took a deep breath before she so\poke, her voice equally as firm as Isaac's.

"We're going to come at Mr. Castillo with everything we got."

Author's Note: So, there you go. When Jessica starts going, there's really nothing which can stop her. I'm really fascinated by these powerful characters. Especially these characters of colour: Jessica, AK and of course, Tegan. They are a force to be reckoned with, Speaking of Tegan, I so ship AKxTegan. Wish the show writers would just give us what we want already.

The show is drawing to a close. I was frankly shocked by the turn of events in the latest episode. I did not see that coming by a mile. Yet, somehow the reveal did not feel as organic as it was meant to be. Is that just me? Let me know in your comments. And I will update as frequently as I can manage. These are trying times indeed.
