The bell rings, signaling the end of another treacherous day in school. I started my way towards the front of the school; I couldn't make it to the front without some trouble.
"Well, look what we have here, a female dog!" a nasal voice said from behind me. I tried to get away, but two of the girls' friends stopped me.
"Wow, nice job Elise, you've wounded me for the rest of my life," I said sarcastically. I turned around in time to see her roll her eyes so far up her head that I'm pretty sure she could see her brain, well if she had one.
"Whatever, I need 20 bucks for food. Give it to me." She demanded me while staring at her acrylic nails. It was now my turn to roll my eyes.
"I don't have money, and even if I did, why would I give it to you?" I asked her as I crossed my arms over my chest. She finally looked me in the eye and gave me a smirk that had trouble all over it.
"Thought you'd say that, guess we'll just have to beat it out of you." The minute those words came out of her mouth, the two girls next to me grabbed my arms, stopping me from running away. I tried to scream, but she punched me in the stomach hard enough to keep me quiet.
"You have the money now?" She said, looking incredibly proud of herself. I gave her a bored look, even though I'm actually in a lot of pain right now, which did not make her happy. She slapped me across the face and then kicked my shin, making me groan in pain. She was about to kick me again until someone interrupted her.
"LAYLA! LEAVE HER ALONE!" a familiar voice screamed out loud. The girls drop me on the floor in shock and run away with Elise, not too far behind them. I heard running footsteps getting closer to me as I tried to get up on my own but failed miserably.
"Oh shit, Layla, what the hell? Who are those girls?" Hunter asked as he helped me get back on my feet. He picked up my bag, swung it over his shoulder, and used his other arm to keep me steady.
"No one, drop it, ok?" I said. He looked the other way and scoffed.
"Whatever, but when Aiden finds out about them, he's going to be pissed." He said as we started walking towards the front of the school again.
"No, he's not because he's not going to find out about this," I said while giving him one of the scariest looks I could conjure up. He rolled his eyes and gave me a skeptical look.
"Fine, but you're limping because?" Hunter said while giving me a smirk. I rolled my eyes at him just as we reached the car. I looked through the vehicle to see Aiden and Rose looking super mad. They both looked at us as we were about to get in the car and immediately worried washed all over their faces.
"What happened to her?"
"Layla! What happened?"
"Did someone do this to you?"
"Nothing happened, I'm fine! Can we please drop it and just go?" I yelled at the two in frustration. Rose looked stunned but complied and looked straight forward. On the other hand, Aiden stared at me for a while with the same look from this morning that I just can't comprehend.
"Whatever, I didn't care anyway." He scoffed. He looked forward and started driving back home. I let out a little gasp of shock, and I look out the window. On the way back to the house, Aiden gets a message. He reads it, and then he scoffs.
"This is ridiculous." I heard him mutter to himself. He then proceeds to do an illegal U-turn knocking me into Hunter and starts going in a whole different direction.
"Dude, are you an idiot?!" Hunter yells while trying to push me off of him.
"H-hey! Hunter, that hurts!" I said after he shoved me against the window. Rose recoils herself, then turns to Aiden and slaps him across the head. He chuckles.
"What the hell, Aiden?! Are you trying to get us killed?" She asked.
"Katherine just texted me and told me to meet her at some unknown location," he responded. Hunter and I stare at each other in confusion.
"Did she tell you why?" I asked
"No." He replied. Rose gave him a suspicious look to which he just shrugged at her. Hunter takes out his phone, plugs in his earphones, and drowns out the world. For some reason, I had a horrible feeling about this, but I decided not to say anything and forced myself to fall asleep.
"Hey, wake up." a voice says while shaking me gently. I open my eyes to Aidens gorgeous blue eyes staring at me. When he sees that I'm awake, he backs out of the car to make space to get out.
As I'm getting out of the car, I take a look at my surroundings. Right now we were in the middle of the forest, no one was here but the four of us.
"Where are we?" Hunter asked while looking around.
"I don't know, but this is where she told me to meet her," Aiden responded. Rose walked up to him and took the phone out of his hands.
"Are you sure this is where she told you to go? Why would she tell us to come here?" She says as she starts going through Aiden's phone to see if we were in the right place. While Aiden was trying to get his phone back, I saw a pair of headlights coming toward us.
"Hey, I think Katherine's here," I said just as her car parked in front of us.
"Thank you, captain obvious," Hunter said, rolling his eyes at me.
"Got something to say shit head?"
"So, what if I do blockhead?"
"Oh, wow! Good one, How about-"
"Layla! Hunter! That's enough." Rose snarled at us. We just scoffed and kept glaring at each other while internally throwing insults at each other. I hear Katherine get out of her car, and I take a good look at her. She has this depressed look on her face, and she looked like she had been crying.
"Hey, what's going on?" Aiden asked while giving her a look of shock. I've never seen her like this before. She's always so happy.
"I'm so sorry." She sobs. She starts crying uncontrollably. Rose and I go up to her and try to comfort her while the boys just stare in concern. She pushes us away.
"No, I'm getting distracted, follow me please," she says. She starts walking towards the dark part of the forest. I open my mouth to question her, but Rose beat me to it.
"What's going on? Where are we going?" she asked. None of us made a move to follow her. We all stood there, staring at her.
"I'll explain everything later. Just please trust me." Katherine said. She didn't check to see if we were following her and just kept walking. The desperation in her voice convinced me to go. I heard the rest following behind me.
We had to have been walking for about 30 minutes before she stopped in front of me. I looked up, and we were at a lake. The rest caught up and stood next to me. Katherine turned around and smiled at us.
"This is where I found you guys that night." She said, giving us a watery smile. I looked at her in shock. Rose and Hunter have the same look on their faces, but Aiden looked mad.
"Why the hell did you bring us here?" He barked. She wasn't fazed at all by his tone; she simply walked up towards the lake and sat down.
"Fifteen years ago, I was given my final request from my master. I used the same magic that made the teleportation device to come to this world. I had the plan memorized word for word. Kill them, he said, and live the rest of your days knowing that you served your master well. But when I saw you four sleeping so innocently I couldn't bring myself to it. I couldn't murder four innocent little kids. So I decided to raise you. I knew the risks I was taking, but I didn't care. I'm the reason this is all happening. That doesn't matter anymore, though. What matters is that the time has come to send you back." She said.
"W-why are you talking like that?! You sound crazy! Better yet, are you insane?!" Hunter yelled out loud while staring at her in shock.
The rest of us were stunned. What? Magic?A teleportation device? I've never agreed with him, but now it doesn't look like I have a choice. Before any of us could say another word, Katherine beat us to it.
"I'm talking about your home. Your parents, Hunter. All of your parents." She said, looking all of us dead in the eye. I was in such a state of shock that I fell to my knees. Rose quickly came to my side and tried to comfort me.
"This doesn't make any sense, Katherine! Our parents are dead-"
"No, they're alive, but they're in danger, and you four are the only ones who can save them."
