Chapter 2

The doorbell rang again. Kevin opened the door but nobody was there.

"Hello?" he called, stepping out the door and looking around.

"Kevin, is someone there?" Laura asked from the doorway, peering out.

"I'll look around the side,"Kevin called back, walking to the side of the house.

"There's nobody here! Probably just a….." Kevin was interrupted by the major blow to his head. He fell to the ground as Laura screamed. "Kevin!" She ran out the door as both Adam and Boggs cornered her.

"Who are…"she couldn't finish because Boggs applied a rag with chloroform to her mouth. As she slumped over, Adam picked her up and carried her to the car around the corner. It was a chilly December night, but none of them were wearing jackets. Laura's birthday was the next day, December 21st.

Cyrus paced the floor of his secret room in anticipation. The room was candle-lit, with a king sized bed in one corner and a desk and chair in another room. He hated to resort to desperate measures like this but he had to have her, and he knew she wouldn't come to him willingly.

He suddenly recalled their meeting at Pentonville when she was trying to persuade him to go back to Seattle.

You don't have my respect and you never will.

We'll see.

Cyrus laughed, thinking about that exchange. Oh, sweet Laura. The things we could accomplish together. I just have to make you see.

He stroked one of the pillows as he pulled out two pairs of handcuffs. Oh we are going to have so much fun together, my sweet.

"Ugh," Kevin moaned as he massaged his head. "What happened? He struggled for a second to sit up and realized he was outside. He was cold. He looked around. The front door was wide open. "Laura?" He called. No answer. He managed to get on his feet and went in the house. "Laura?" He called again. Now he was getting nervous. Her car was still parked out front. He frantically searched the house but she wasn't there. "Oh my god," he muttered. "I think she's been kidnapped. He reached for his cellphone and called the Port Charles Police Department.

Cyrus turned towards the door as it opened. Adam and Boggs were the only other people who knew the cupboard in the kitchen turned into a secret passage to a small room. Boggs was carrying an unconscious Laura in his arms and Adam was right behind them.

Cyrus grinned licentiously as Boggs placed her gently on the bed. Adam looked at Cyrus nervously.

"She'll be coming to very soon, Boss," he said.

"That's just perfect," Cyrus replied. "I'll take it from here." He looked at his two henchmen and nodded. "You may go." He turned back to an unconscious Laura and reached for the handcuffs.

"Okay, Kevin, are you sure Laura isn't just out with one of her children?" Jordan Ashford asked Kevin, as they sat in the house. Kevin had an ice pack on his head.

"No!" he exclaimed, a little more forcefully than he intended. "

"I'm sorry," Jordan apologized. "I'm just trying to think of who would actually kidnap the mayor of Port Charles."

"Kevin, can you think of anyone who would want to harm Laura?" Mac Scorpio asked softly.

"The only person I can think of, besides my brother Ryan, is Cyrus Renault." Kevin muttered, tears in his eyes.

"Oh yes, Renault," Jordan remarked. "I don't think she's had any recent run-ins with him, though, has she?"

"Not that I know of," Kevin replied. The he turned to Jordan and snapped angrily," Well, what are you waiting for? Put out an A.P.B. on her!" She's not just my wife, she's the mayor!

"Kevin, are you sure you don't want to go to the hospital?" Mac asked, a look of concern on his face.

"I'm fine, I'm fine."

Jordan was on the phone, issuing an A.P.B. out on Laura. Mac said they should try to find Cyrus and ask him questions, since he was the only suspect at that point.

"Okay, let's go," Jordan said when she hung up the phone. Mac got up to follow her as well as Kevin.

"Kevin, you need to stay here," Jordan told him.

"Like hell I will! That's my wife!" Kevin shouted back.

"Kevin, please. This is official police business now," Mac said. Kevin softened.

"Alright, I'll stay. But please let me know what happens wirth Renault."

"Renault is a very dangerous man, "Mac added. "But you should already know that from your assessment of him months ago." Kevin nodded in agreement.

"But what does he want with Laura?" Kevin said, more so to himself. Then it dawned on him and a look of fear crept over his face.
