Chapter 3
Cyrus stared longingly at the sleeping beauty on his bed. Any minute now she would be waking up. He twiddled his thumbs in anticipation. "Soon, you will be mine," he whispered. All of a sudden, the door flew open. Cyrus looked up angrily.
"What the hell is it?" He snapped as Boggs stood at the door.
"I'm sorry to interrupt you, Boss, but a police car just showed up," Boggs replied nervously.
Cyrus groaned. "Alright, stay here. And if she wakes up, gag her." Cyrus got up and left the room, closing the door and locking it behind him. He went through the hallway to the secret opening where the cupboard was. After he climbed through, he moved the cupboard back and looked out the window. Jordan Ashford and Mac Scorpio were getting out of their police vehicle. Cyrus opened the front door and smiled.
"Commissioner Ashford, Chief Scorpio, to what do I owe the pleasure?"
"Mayor Collins is missing. We think she was kidnapped. "Jordan replied.
"You wouldn't know anything about that, would you?" Mac added with a glare.
"Mayor Collins was kidnapped? Oh my. How terrible." Cyrus said with fake sympathy.
"Dr. Collins was assaulted outside their home and somehow they got the mayor."
"I'm sorry, I don't understand. Why would you think I had anything to do with this?"Cyrus said with a laugh.
"We know she's been….how do they say it? A "thorn" in your side," Mac replied.
"Well, feel free to look around my house," Cyrus said, knowing full well they would never find the secret passage unless someone told them exactly where to look. Mac started walking inside,
"Jordan, I told you, I'm very fond of the mayor. Why would you think I would hurt her?" Cyrus whispered as he and Jordan stepped inside. Jordan didn't answer him. Suddenly, another car pulled up and out stepped Kevin.
"Ah, Dr. Collins. I heard you were assaulted tonight." Cyrus smirked.
"Where the hell is my wife, Renault?" Kevin shouted.
"Kevin! We told you to stay at home!" Jordan reprimanded him.
"I…..I couldn't just stay put and do nothing," Kevin stammered. He turned to Cyrus and glared.
"I swear, I know nothing about your wife's disappearance. "Cyrus replied curtly. "Perhaps she finally got sick of you and left on her own."
Kevin's face turned beat red and before he could control himself he punched Cyrus.
Jordan gasped. Cyrus was taken aback but he quickly got to his feet and smiled.
"Jordan, I'd like to press charges," Cyrus grinned, rubbing his left eye, which Kevin had hit.
Jordan was fuming. She knew she was going to have to arrest Kevin, yet she understood that he was just doing what every single person in town wanted to do. Mac came out of the house then and looked at Kevin and Cyrus, shocked.
"Nothing, Jordan," Mac told her.
"Kevin, you'll have to come with us," Jordan sighed. Jordan filled Mac in on what Kevin did.
"Mr. Renault, I suppose you'll be coming into the station to press charges. Cyrus really didn't want to. Laura would be waking up any moment, but he suppose he should go so that Collins wouldn't be on his tail, at least not yet. If he was lucky, Kevin wouldn't be out of jail until the next morning, on bail. By then, Cyrus would have had his way with Laura.
No, Cyrus thought to himself. That's too brisk. We need some time to talk first.
As Jordan, Mac, and Kevin sped away, Cyrus got into his car and followed them.
