Today's the day. Marinette is finally going to confess her feelings to Adrien. For real this time. She labored away in the bakery making the perfect macarons for her confession. She's placing them gently in a macaron box when her dad appears behind her. "And who might those be for?" He asks, admiring the delicious pink treats.
His startling presence makes Marinette jump and drop a couple of macarons on the floor. "Oh nobody Dad," she smiles, "Just a friend of mine!" She crams the last few in the box. "Got to go, I'm late for school!" She grabs her backpack and hurries out the door.
She slides in her seat next to Alya, tired from the fast journey to class. "Oooooo you made macarons!" Alya reaches for the box, "Can I have one?"
Marinette blocks her hand, "Not for you! They're for-," she stops mid-sentence and whispers the rest, " n."
"Are you confessing finally?" Alya smirks.
Marinette shushes her in embarrassment and points to Adrien sitting in front of her.
Ms. Bustier walks to the front of the room. "Alright class it's time to begin."
Marinette cradles her box of macarons all day waiting for the perfect moment. By the end of school, pretty much everyone knows Marinette is going to confess her feelings. The long day at school finally ends.
Alya and Marinette walk behind Adrien and Nino as they pass through the front doors. Marinette sulks, "Oh no Al! I missed my chance again."
Alya suddenly picks up her pace to walk beside Nino. "Hey Nino! Can I talk to you for a bit?" she grabs his arm and drags him away, "Over here!"
'She's the best!' Marinette thinks to herself as she hurries to catch Adrien. "Adrien!"
He's happy to see his friend approach him, "Oh Hi Marinette!"
Why is that genuine smile so hard to talk to! Marinette takes a deep breath and holds the box of macarons forward. "Um- these are for you!"
Adrien's still smiling but he tilts his head in confusion. "Wow thank you! What's the occasion?"
Marinette begins to stutter, "Well- I um- well you see." Adrien's car pulls up, she's running out of time. "I wanted to tell you something!"
Adrien turns to see Natalie glaring at him from the passenger seat. "Can you tell me tomorrow, Marinette? I have Chinese lessons."
Marinette's face goes pink as he starts to walk away. She stops stuttering and raises her voice, "NO!" Adrien turns back around surprised. She looks at her feet and quiets down again, "No Adrien it can't wait." She takes a deep breath once again and looks up into those inviting green eyes. "Adrien, I love you."
She turns a darker pink and tightens her entire body in anticipation. Adrien is unprepared and struggles to find what to say. "Marinette, you're a really sweet girl and one of my best friends but-"
She mimics his words and looks down in disappointment, "But..."
Adrien thinks about his love, Ladybug. "But my heart belongs to someone else." Marinette doesn't look back up at him, she can't. He touches her shoulder, "I'm sorry Marinette. I have to go now but I hope you'll still be my friend. You mean a lot to me."
Her heart breaks the second his fingers leave her shoulder. She holds together as he gets in his car and turns around the block. Without looking up she sprints back home. She goes directly to her room with her face in her hands, ignoring her parents. Marinette wets her pillow with tears all night long. When her alarm goes off in the morning she finally speaks to Tikki.
"Tikki, I've ruined everything. I should have known he doesn't like me. Now it's never going to be the same again!" She starts sobbing once more. Suddenly her phone buzzes.
"Adrien!?" she reaches for it hopefully but it's just Alya, a text message. "Hey Mari! We saw what happened yesterday… We're hanging out at Julia's boat today, just us girlz XD! You should totally come."
Tikki speaks up, "Marinette you should go! I think it's a good way to cheer you up!"
Marinette agrees even though she's reluctent, "You're right Tikki, I should probably tell them the details anyways."
