It Ain't Easy Being Breezies

Night's POV

Night and his friends were Ponyville as Fluttershy explained what was happening. "Okay, everypony. As you know, the adorable fairy creatures known as Breezies are about to come through Ponyville," she started.

"Yes! It's so exciting! I can't wait for Rainbow Dash to make the breeze for them so I can see how cute they are up close!" Pinkie shouted.

"I've never done it before, not that I won't be totally awesome at it, because I totally will!" Rainbow said confidently.

"And that breeze is very important, but so is cheering on those teeny-tiny little things, so they have the confidence to ride that breeze to their native land. Did I mention how tiny they are? So tiny! I was thinking we could do a special Breezie cheer!" Fluttershy suggested.

"I love cheers!" Pinkie screamed.

"But these cheers should be quiet cheers. We don't want to startle them. They need to be able to concentrate. Why don't we try it? You can do it, Breezies," Fluttershy said quietly. The girls ended up screaming the cheer and after a bit, they managed to get their cheering quiet enough.

A few days later, Ponyville gathered in the square where Night helped Rainbow and a few other pegasi maintain the breeze. They then saw a swarm coming over the horizon. Night flew down to Twilight. "The Breezies are here," he whispered.

"Everypony, it's time. Please welcome... the Breezies!" Twilight told everypony quietly as the Breezies arrived overhead. Things started off well, but then a leaf cut off some of the Breezies from the others.

"Slow down the breeze for the other group to catch up!" Rainbow told Cloud Chaser and Flitter, who were making the breeze.

"They're too far back! We can't connect the breeze to both sets of Breezies!" Cloud Chaser said.

"What if we speed it up?" Night asked.

"Then the first group'll be going too fast, and they'll get separated from each other!" Flitters stated.

Fluttershy's POV

Seeing the Breezies completely out of control, Fluttershy flew up and stopped one of the Breezies from getting too far away from the group. "Everyone, get close to the large pony!" one of the Breezies ordered, pointing at Fluttershy.

"He's right! You must all gather as close as you possibly can!" Fluttershy called out. The Breezies swarmed around her and Fluttershy brought them to a tree stump.

"You could understand us?" the Breezie from earlier asked.

"Oh, I understand the language of all kinds of creatures!" Fluttershy answered.

"You must be so proud," he said, speaking in Pony.

"And you speak my language too?" Fluttershy asked in surprise.

"I can. This lot can only understand you. Clearly, they're not the brightest bunch around," the Breezie answered, getting shouts of indignation from the others.

"That was amazing!" Pinkie shouted.

"I'm sorry we couldn't get a breeze going that would get them back to the others," Rainbow apologized.

"Oh, it's not your fault," Fluttershy told her.

"I, for one, am very proud of you, Fluttershy. Leaping into action like that," Twilight said.

"That was some quick thinking," Night added with Zera on his back.

"I feel like I should design you a special hero's gown! Heh... Or a sash. At least a sash," Rarity said.

"Okay, okay, okay! I know what you're all thinking! Why don't you just say it?! I'm sorry! This is all my fault! I'm so, so sorry!" Spike said, tears in his eyes.

"Drama queen," Zera squawked.

"Oh, Spike, it's okay! It could have happened to any one of us," Fluttershy told him.

"Okay, thank you," Spike said, hugging Fluttershy into the Breezies, who started shouting. "Uh... I'm... just... gonna stay over here," Spike said, getting away from the small creatures.

"So, Fluttershy, you want us to get the breeze going again so these little guys can get a move on?" Rainbow asked.

The Breezies then started clamoring about how they wanted to stay with Fluttershy for a bit. "Maybe we should wait just a moment to do so. They've been through so much," Fluttershy said.

"Just gimme the word when you think they're ready," Rainbow told Fluttershy.

Fluttershy then brought the Breezies to her cottage where they made themselves at home. When Fluttershy walked back into the room she saw Twirly, one of the Breezies, was shaking. "You look like you need a blanket," Fluttershy noted, taking a tissue and putting it on her.

"Thank you," she said.

"Oh, no problem," Fluttershy replied.

"More water please?" another Breezie asked, holding out a tiny cup. Fluttershy got an eyedropper and put a drop of water in the cup.

"Now, who else needed a hoof-knitted sweater?" Fluttershy asked, holding one up and another Breezie took it.

"Hey there! Can we come in?" Applejack asked, appearing with Night, Twilight, and Zera.

"Oh, of course! But watch your step!" Fluttershy warned as Applejack was about to step on a Breezie.

"Oop, sorry about that, little one," Applejack apologized.

"Stay back pest!" the Breezie known as Seabreeze suddenly shouted in Pony, looking at Zera.

"I'm nowhere near you," Zera protested in her language, still on Night's back.

Seabreeze then turned to Fluttershy. "Keep that creature away from us and we'll be fine," he told her.

"What's wrong with Zera?" Fluttershy asked.

"Those birds are dangerous. They've attacked us before," she answered. Fluttershy guessed they might have flown through Thunderbird territory before, though she didn't tell Seabreeze.

"We just wanted to see if you thought the Breezies were ready to give it another try," Twilight told her.

"Has it been an hour already? Oh, my goodness! Time flies when you're making sure little creatures don't feel that you're abandoning them to the cruel world," Fluttershy said.

"But they're going home," Night said, sounding confused.

"Oh, yes, that's right!" Fluttershy said. The Breezies then started shouting that they wanted to remain here. "On second thought, I don't think they're quite ready."

"What is the matter with you all? We have to get our pollen home! So move your asses!" Seabreeze shouted.

"Uh... what did he say?" Applejack asked.

"I'd... rather not say," Fluttershy answered.

"Okay, well, I'm sure you know what you're doin'. No one knows rare magical creatures like you do," Applejack said as the three started to leave.

"We'll just wait for your word," Twilight added.

"Thank you. I'll be in touch very soon," Fluttershy said then closed the door.

"We need to go now, or we will never get home! I wish we did not need that stupid breeze to activate our magic, or I would just force you all to fly home right now! Why do we have to need magic to keep our pollen safe?" Seabreeze complained.

"Um, now, Seabreeze-" Fluttershy started.

"Why are you giving in to these wimps?! If they had not been so scared in the first place, this never would have happened!" Seabreeze questioned Fluttershy.

"But that is just not true, Seabreeze. It was because of a leaf, and you know that!" Fluttershy told her.

"Oh, please! They have no idea what they're doing out there! Like you said, we need as much time as we can get, because they are so incompetent!" Seabreeze stated.

"Well, I didn't say that exactly, now did I?" Fluttershy asked. Seabreeze huffed. "Oh, well, maybe a snack will lighten the mood," Fluttershy suggested. The other Breezies cooed with interest.

Fluttershy gave them a snack and when they were done, one of the Breezies burped. "Excuse me," she said.

"You're excused. Well, my Breezies, I think we can all agree that now that you've eaten and you have a little energy going in your breezy bodies, you're strong enough to face the breeze! I've loved having you here, and I hope I've made you all feel loved and special. But you have to go. Nopony here will deny that-" Fluttershy started.

"There is nothing special about these losers! They cannot handle a simple breeze home! If they could just stick with the program and listen to me, we would be safe! At home! Home, where every Breezie is like us!" Seabreeze shouted then flew up the eyehole on the front door and sighed.

"Okay, well, a confusing pep-talk, but nonetheless. I do know that if you don't leave soon, you may never make it back, and that would be terrible!" Fluttershy told the other Breezies.

One of the Breezies then sneezed. "That would be nice, but we're too sick to fly," the Breezie said.

Twirly then coughed. "All of us," she added.

"I had no idea you all have colds! Really? All of you?" Fluttershy asked and they all started coughing. "Oh, dear. I can't let you go out there sick! What kind of a friend would I be if I made you go now?"

A little while later, Fluttershy heard knocking on her door. She opened it to see Rainbow Dash. "Hey, Fluttershy, just wondering if the Breezies are ready to go yet. Clock's kinda ticking for them to make it back before the door closes on their home," Rainbow Dash asked.

"Oh, yes. I mean, not quite. Um, maybe just a few more minutes?" Fluttershy answered then closed the door. Inside her house, she and the Breezies were partying hard. The music stopped when Seabreeze smashed the saxophone.

"Why are you spending your time on this?! I will never get home!" he shouted.

Fluttershy felt guilty for him. "Breezies, I must say, Seabreeze has a point. I think it's time for me to get Rainbow Dash and her friends so they can create the breeze for you to get home," she told them. The Breezies, beside Seabreeze, grabbed Fluttershy's tail in dismay.

"Ooh... You're all awfully anxious... Oh, I don't want you to feel abandoned, or that I wasn't the most kind host I could possibly be…" Fluttershy noted.

"We can handle a stronger breeze," Twirly told Fluttershy.

"Oh, yes, that does make sense... Seabreeze, do you think you could wait just a couple more hou-" Fluttershy started then noticed the Breezie was gone. "Seabreeze? Seabreeze? Has anypony seen Seabreeze?" she asked. The other Breezies shook their heads. Fluttershy then felt a touch of wind on the back of her neck and saw the eyehole was open. Looking through, Fluttershy saw Seabreeze riding a breeze on the outside. "Where's he going? There's no way he can handle being out there on his own!" Fluttershy said in a panic.

Fluttershy went outside to look for Seabreeze and found him about to get attacked by a group of bees. "Excuse me, bees? Can you please back off my Breezie friend? He didn't mean any harm. It was just an accident," Fluttershy apologized, but the bees looked like they still wanted to attack. "I'm working on a bee-type dance and was hoping you could help me? Does this bring to mind any images for you? Perhaps a bee?" she asked, putting on a fake stinger but the bees were still about to attack. "Excuse me! I have done nothing but be kind, but I guess that is not working! You bees know better than to hurt a helpless Breezie! I demand that you go away now, or you'll have to answer to me!" Fluttershy told them angrily, glaring at them. The bees flew back to their hive and closed the door behind them.

"That was close," Seabreeze said before switching to Pony. "Thank you! Thank you so much! Thank you for coming after me!" he thanked.

"Of course. You could've gotten seriously hurt out there. Ponyville is much too dangerous for you. One tiny acorn is a threat!" Fluttershy told him.

"Yeah, I know! That is one reason why I have been trying to get us to go from the beginning!" Seabreeze told her.

"Oh, my goodness. I was just trying not to hurt any creature's feelings, but my displays of kindness may have cost you everything…" Fluttershy started then realized something. "Time is running out, and you may never make it home!"

"That is exactly what I have been telling all of them! But they do not listen to me! Nobreezie ever listens to me!" Seabreeze stated.

"Seabreeze, I understand your feelings are hurt, but it's hard for them to hear you when you're shouting and being mean. The message doesn't get across," Fluttershy told her.

"But what about those bees? You were not nice to them, and that was the only way they listened!" Seabreeze pointed out.

"Yes, but they had to go, and they wouldn't listen to me any other way," Fluttershy replied. Looking at Seabreeze's wings, something clicked inside of Fluttershy. "We need to go, now!" she told Seabreeze and the two headed back to her cottage.

"My dear Breezies, I had to rescue Seabreeze from serious harm, and now I know more than ever that you must leave before it's too late! You would never survive in Ponyville," Fluttershy told the Breezies.

"But we still need your help!" they protested.

"I can't help you anymore. In fact, I wasn't helping you at all by being nice. Oh... But the truth of the matter is that I must be firm!" Fluttershy told them, opening the door. "You must go, now!" she ordered, pointing outside. The Breezies left and Fluttershy felt horrible, but she knew it was the right thing to do.

Fluttershy followed the Breezies to where her friends were and Rainbow Dash, Cloud Chaser, and Flitter were having trouble with the breeze. "It's too strong!" Rainbow Dash told them.

"I can't do it any lighter!" Flitter said.

"Neither can I!" Cloud Chaser added.

"Fly back! I'm gonna try and see if I can slow it down," Rainbow Dash ordered. She shifted her body a bit. "Now it's too light! Oh, this will never get them home!" she said.

"Let me try," Night said, flying up to Rainbow Dash. Night body was then surrounded by wind and he managed to make a breeze that looked like it would work. "Okay. I think I got it, but I don't know how long I can hold it," he told the Breezies.

"It will have to do," Seabreeze said, leading the other Breezies into the breeze.

Fluttershy and the others followed them to their destination. One of the Breezies stumbled and Seabreeze was there immediately. "You can do this! I am sorry for how I treated you before! It was not right that I called you names! I did not even really believe those things I said! I was worried we would never get back to our home, and I lashed out... I know you can do this! I believe in you! Hold on to me, let us join the group!" Seabreeze told the one that stumbled and the one that helped. It didn't take them long to reach the portal to the Breezies home. "Thank you so much Fluttershy," Seabreeze said at the entrance.

"It was my pleasure. I'm sorry I didn't realize what I should have been doing sooner though," Fluttershy stated.

"It's alright," he replied. Seabreeze then went through the portal and came back out with a flower. "To remember us by," he told the pegasus before flying back through the portal. It then closed, protecting the Breezies in their home.
