Mellow
Most people are uncomfortable in prolonged silence, hence the issue for Migita. Enjoy!
2 days later
Holding Bakura's hand as they walk down the street, Migita smiles up to her boyfriend.
"You're never really talkative in public. Why is that?" Migita asks. Bakura just shrugs slightly with a smile. Bakura has always been shy, Migita knew that from the start, and asides from a couple of dates, he never talked much about anything personal in public.
"I'm glad you picked me up for lunch." Migita says.
"So am I." Bakura smiles. They choose a café and take a seat soon enough. The waitress walks over and takes their order, trying to flirt with Bakura a little. Luckily, he's oblivious.
"So either you're just so used to women flirting with you that it doesn't register, or, you ignore it." Migita smirks.
"What are you talking about?" Bakura asks. Migita rolls her eyes.
"Never mind. So, we've been together a while and you haven't really mentioned your family to me at all." Migita says.
"I thought I spoke of them before?" Bakura says.
"So…" Migita says, embarrassed, earning an odd look from Bakura. They sit in silence for a moment before Migita starts to talk a little about her family before switching the subject to something else.
"So, what inspired you to be a mechanic?" Migita asks.
"I don't know, it just felt right." Bakura says as the waitress comes back and they order their lunch. Migita continues to chatter on, quietly, without even noticing entirely that Bakura has a slightly nervous, annoyed, and disbelieving look on his face as she talks.
"Oh, and, about the other…" Migita starts only for Bakura to place his hand over her mouth just as the food arrives.
"Can we talk about that at home dear?" Bakura asks with a slightly agitated tone to his voice. Migita nods, though, slightly annoyed. He hasn't so much as spoken almost the whole time and here he was telling her to shush and when to talk about something.
"Well, maybe if you actually spoke to me about something, maybe I wouldn't be trying to find something to talk about." Migita says. Bakura rolls his eyes at her before they eat in semi-silence.
"Why don't you talk to me in public?" Migita asks.
"I do, but sometimes the things you bring up are just, well, awkward to talk about." Bakura says quietly. Migita scowls and prepares to starts berating him before he holds up a finger asking her to wait.
"Can we talk about this at home as well?" Bakura asks.
"Why?" Migita almost growls.
"I really don't feel like having an argument right now, especially when we have work in fifteen minutes." Bakura says. Letting out an annoyed huff, Migita concedes. Once Bakura pays for their lunch they leave and Migita gives him the silent treatment that he knew she would. It was cold so instead of taking the motorcycle, Bakura took his car instead. The drive back to Migita's work is quiet and Bakura lets out a sigh before they reach the building.
"I didn't mean to be rude Migita, it's just that sometimes your bring things up while we're out in public that really should not be mentioned outside of the home. Anyway, we can talk more about this later, I promise. Have a good rest of your day." Bakura says sincerely as Migita gets out of the car without a word and slams the car door, just as Bakura expected. Storming into the office, Migita takes a seat and waits for the others.
"Hey Migita." Tajra calls out.
"Hey." Migita grumbles.
"Ok, what's up?" Mai asks as she, Tajra, Jetta, and Shizaa walk over.
"Bakura." Migita mumbles.
"Did you guys get in a fight?" Jetta asks as she motions the others to follow.
"No, but we almost did. Tell me, are some of the things I bring up awkward to talk about?" Migita asks.
"Yeah, unless we're home, then no." Tajra says, noticing the wide eyes of Migita.
"And what, exactly, does that mean?" Migita asks in a huffy tone.
"Hun, it means that sometimes you forget to filter yourself in public, and while there are some things that can be brought up in public and at home, there are some things that are strictly private." Mai says.
"Huh?" Migita says.
"I know you know you have a filter, but sometimes you just get so desperate for conversation that you completely forget it and just start talking about anything that comes to mind. For instance, when I first started school here, you kept bringing up that I hadn't gone to school before then because of my heritage. Then you added to that asking me about other personal matters, remember?" Tajra asks. Migita thinks for a moment before she nods, with a slight blush.
"Yeah, I remember." Migita says quietly.
"So, you would also remember how embarrassed and hurt I was." Tajra says. Migita nods.
"Don't get us wrong here Migita, we love you like a sister. You just forget to filter yourself when you think it's too quiet. Bakura is a very mellow person, he doesn't like to talk about personal things out where the world can hear. Plus, take into consideration how it makes the relationship look. You, talking about anything and everything kinda gives off the air of either unsophisticated or not classy, and that can catch the attention of guys who may think you're a tease." Jetta says.
"Like what?" Migita challenges.
"PMS." Tajra says.
"Dates." Shizaa says.
"Underwear shopping." Mai says.
"What your man will think about it." Jetta adds.
"Intimacy." Tajra says.
"Ok, I get it." Migita says in defeat.
"You mean you haven't noticed that when he starts to clam up and turn red, it's usually when you're talking about that sort of thing?" Mai asks.
"Well, I was also trying to ask about his parents." Migita says.
"That is one of those middle ground topics." Mai says.
"Apparently, the only few times I have asked about it, he did talk about it a bit, and now that I talk about it, I remember now, but still." Migita says.
"Ah, maybe he was confused, I begin to wonder if someone is paying attention to me when they ask about something more than once." Mai says.
"Yeah, and the subject could still be sensitive and hard to talk about, and having to talk about it again may be like opening old wounds. Anyway, we should get to work." Tajra says. Migita couldn't help but think that maybe she had been unknowingly embarrassing herself and Bakura.
Later that night
Bakura pulls up to the Misori building and waits for more of the silent treatment from his rather annoyed girlfriend. He cares for her dearly, but sometimes she can just ramble on about everything. The sound of the door opening startles Bakura from his thoughts.
"Hey there space cadet, how was the moon?" Migita teases as she takes a seat.
"You're not mad at me anymore?" Bakura asks as they leave for home.
"No, because, well the girls told me about my filtering issue." Migita says.
"Yeah." Bakura says as they park.
"May I explain though what causes that?" Migita asks as they walk to their condo.
"Sure." Bakura says as he unlocks the door and flips on the light.
"Lack of conversation. I am a creature that thrives off of conversation, and, as was pointed out by my friends, when there isn't some sort of conversation going on I start to go a little attention and conversation crazy and start bringing up topics that are less than appropriate. It's a weird tick, but it makes sense seeing as how I was raised by two very talkative people." Migita says as she closes the door behind her, locking it up again.
"I guess that makes sense." Bakura says.
"So, how do we fix this?" Migita asks.
"Well, I could be more talkative I suppose. The reason I don't say much on lunch is because I know that you don't know mechanic terms and I don't want to frustrate you." Bakura says. Migita smiles and shakes her head.
"Silly man that only opens the door for questions. I can ask what certain things mean while you tell me about work. Hell, you can just tell me which customers were being total assholes, how the newbs are doing, and so on." Migita giggles. Bakura just chuckles at her while nodding in agreement.
"Ok, so we have that figured out. I will be more talkative at lunch to prevent you from going to odd topics, and you get the stimulating conversation you crave." Bakura chuckles.
"I can deal with that if I must." Migita smiles sarcastically.
"Good." Bakura chuckles.
"Just a question. Why didn't you want to talk about your parents?" Migita asks. Bakura goes quiet for a moment before he leads her to the living room.
"Well, my mother passed away when I was eleven because of a heart attack. My father was an archaeologist and had to leave a lot of the time so I lived with my aunt. He was kind but he often ignored me because he felt that I had to grow up faster because of my parents and that he was old. He's still on an excavation, but I'm starting to worry, as I haven't heard from him in several years." Bakura says. Migita just stares in silence.
"Why haven't you contacted him yet? I vaguely remember that from our first date, but I've been so busy…I'm so sorry babe." Migita says solemnly.
"It sucked being alone, that's probably why the spirit in the millennium ring was able to control me so easily. Don't worry too much about it, or him, this happened a lot." Bakura says.
"Thank you for telling me and understanding why I tend to…" Migita says.
"Ramble." Bakura finishes making Migita blush slightly.
"Yeah." Migita giggles.
"And thank you for telling me that it's ok to talk about subject you don't entirely understand because then it opens the door for more conversation. I will try to be patient with you." Bakura says.
"I appreciate that." Migita smiles as she gets off the couch and starts on dinner.
So the one thing I wanted to get across in this chapter is that communication is key. Anyway, last chapter is long. Enjoy!
