Chapter 14

The Reason

Brandon's POV

I grabbed my lunch and shut my locker door. I took a deep breath turning around. This Dylan and Brenda shit had clouded my mind. Kelly had appeared in front of me. I knew she knew something was up. I had been distant and quiet, it had nothing to do with her. I adored Kelly.

"Hey pookie butt." she talked in a baby voice.

"Hey beautiful." my arm snaked around her waist and I leaned in and kissed her. I felt the tension release being close to her. She had away of making me forget what was going on, at least temporarily.

"Are you okay?" she leaned out and asked, her eyes concerned.

I nodded slowly lying, "Why wouldn't I be?"

"Brenda and Dylan." she said out flat.

I exhaled, "You heard about them too huh?" I let go of her and leaned against my locker.

She shrugged, "Just today…I guess when you look at them, it seems pretty obvious. I guess I had you on my mind…I hadn't noticed the chemistry between them."

I rolled my eyes, she stared at me as she put her hand to her hip. "Dylan is player. He has chemistry with everyone it seems."

"Brandon…what did you think of me the first time we met?" her face serious.

"I thought you were beautiful Kel…a California blonde, sexy and sweet." I told her the truth.

"You didn't think I was shallow, dumb, spoiled, a princess?" her eyes stared into mine, "A slut…easy?"

I looked down, I had heard about Kelly. I had heard she put out but she didn't seem that way at all with me. What I had heard hadn't changed my opinion about her or wanting to get to know her for that matter. "Kelly…"

"No it's ok…I know what people said about me, and it was true for the most part. I hadn't really met anyone that looked past that. That wanted to get to know the real me. I was so insecure I did put out, in hopes of finding someone that would think I was special. No one really ever took me seriously, that was until I met you."

My head tilted sideways and I gave her a smile, "Well…you fascinated me. You are gorgeous and sexy but not only that, you have a big heart Kelly. You are a smart, kind, sweet person. I wanted to get to know you." I smirked looking to the floor before meeting her eyes again, "Plus you made me wait six months before you let me make love to you. No matter how many times I begged that's pretty far from slutty." I chuckled and she giggled. I knew what she was doing. I exhaled, "Dylan just seems incapable of being anything other than a bad boy. He's a loner. It's cliche I know, the bad boy and the innocent girl but my sister is my best friend. She is innocent and sweet, she deserves someone better. She has a big heart too and I don't want to see her get hurt by him."

Kelly shrugged, "Dylan could be different, I mean you yourself just said he's a loner, maybe we don't know the real Dylan at all?"

"Dylan gets on anything with a skirt, I've seen it."

"What would you say if I told you, before you and Brenda moved here, I tried to get a date with Dylan…I practically threw myself at him." Kelly looked down embarrassed and I saw green.

I groaned out, "God Kelly…stop. I don't want to hear about you and Dylan." Fuck my life, my Kelly and Dylan. GROSS! It made me look at her different for a second.

"He flat out turned me down." She crossed her arms again. "Straight out. He told me that he had known me since we were in kindergarten and he just never looked at me that way. He may have even said, he thought of me as a sister."

I cringed, "Ouch…sorry." Oh thank god! I wasn't about to share my girl with my friend. I already knew she had dated Steve, But Dylan, oh hell NO…I shuttered at the thought. "Well clearly I'm right about Dylan…he's clearly an idiot." I tried to lighten the mood. Throwing away what images I had about the possibility of Dylan and Kelly. It made me sick.

"I have known Dylan for a long time Bran, he is a mystery, but we know his parents aren't around much. That's no secret. Our back grounds are pretty similar. Maybe he wants to be a better person for her Brandon? Maybe he doesn't want to be a player…like I didn't want to be a slut? Maybe he just wants someone to love him, accept him for who he really is…maybe he just wants to be loved like I did?"

My hand cupped her cheek, "I do love you."

Kelly nodded, "I know you do…and you know I love you too." she leaned into to me, wrapping her arm around my waist. I leaned in and gave her a sweet slow kiss. I did love her and Kelly was a better person than I had ever thought she was, once getting to know her, the rumors and opinions of her were so far off.

"I've found my reason, to change who I used to be. A reason to start over new, and that reason was you. You make me want to be a better person Brandon. Maybe its the same with Dylan?"

We started making our way to lunch as I thought about the way I had treated my sister and Dylan. What Kelly said made sense, it did, but Brenda and Dylan weren't me and Kelly. They had been sneaking around for god knows how long, doing god knows what. My mind wandered as I thought about it. Maybe Brenda was his reason.

"Just give them a break babe. If Brenda had come to you 6 months ago, saying how much of a slut I was, that you should stay away from me…how would you feel?" With that Kelly walked away from my hold and made her way to the quad. I took a deep breath and slowly followed her. Why did I have to be in love with such a smart young woman? It was annoying, I hated to be wrong.

I rolled my eyes knowing she was 100% right as I sat beside her and the rest of the gang at lunch. I noticed Brenda and Dylan didn't join us. They sat under a tree alone. Brenda sat in front of Dylan, in between his legs. Her head was tilted up towards him, she took a french fry and fed it to him. It was hanging from his mouth as she leaned in and bit the other half into her mouth, their lips touching softly. Ugh they were disgustingly playful. Their attention was only on each other, not caring or even noticing their friends were a mere 10 feet away from them. To them, they were the only ones in that quad. Dylan and Brenda both reached their fingers into the tray of fries, Dylan gently pushed her to the ground as he hovered on top of her. Brenda playfully pushed him off laughing.

"No." she giggled.

"Eat it…eat it." she tried to force the fry into his mouth. As she tried the same. "Owe." he laughed playfully fighting her off. Brenda's laugh was genuine and extremely happy. I looked away from them at the group, they were all staring at them too. I looked over at them again, Dylan was trying to keep her on the ground trying to still force feed her. Dylan's leg came over her hips, straddling her but Brenda sat up with a loud laugh, he pushed her back to the ground. He had a fry hanging out of his mouth as he held on to her. His legs in a strong hold around her waist.

He leaned over her, "No…" she playfully tried to fight back. He got close to her face and placed the fry in her mouth. Brenda being stuck underneath him. Their legs entwined together in an odd way.

She sat up leaning herself into him as he fell to his back, "Ah…HAHA." he yowled half in victory half in being brought to the ground. Brenda now lay back in between his legs as she leaned herself almost on top of him and she shoved a fry in his mouth again. Her smile was almost infectious as I looked at the gang again. Every one of them was smiling in some way. Kelly had a knowing told you so half smile, Donna a wide happy smile, Steve had a smirk on his face, I almost smiled myself, hearing their playful laughs and banter.

"Well…look at that…Dylan and Brenda. They look more than friendly…you guys think their doing it?" Steve lifted his eyebrows. Kelly swatted at him with her hand trying to hit him. She missed.

"What?" Steve laughed, "Oh come on Kelly, look at them. They are practically rolling around on the ground together at school. Put them in the bedroom take off their clothes, it's foreplay at its finest." a wide smile spread across his face as he then wiggled his eyebrows.

"Steve…" I made a disgusted grunt.

"Stop being crude Steve." Donna said, "They look cute together, look at them, they like each other."

All of our eyes went to them again. Dylan pulled Brenda into the front of him, now they were sitting upright. His arm tightly across her chest as his face went to her neck. I don't think I had ever seen them that happy before. He cuddled into her, chewing the fry she forced him to eat. He leaned down again kissing her on her neck, behind her ear. Then the side of his face leaned against hers, his eye closed with a smile on his face, he squeezed her in a hug. They did look like they liked each other, they looked like they liked each other a lot actually. All of a sudden I felt like an asshole. Why would I want to take that warmth and happiness away from my best friend…or more importantly from my sister? Dylan had always seemed like a lost soul. Sure me and Dylan were close and we had fun together, but he looked free in that moment. He looked alive.

The lunch bell rang and the gang gathered their stuff. No one really mentioned Brenda and Dylan again as I got up with my lunch bag to head to the trash. I saw Dylan standing reaching his hand to help Brenda up. Her arms wrapped around his neck sweetly and she leaned in and kissed him. I guess I had to have a discussion with Dylan.

DPOV

I left my last class in a hurry telling Brenda I would pick her up later, she was going to help me. I was moving my stuff into a house that my dad's lawyers had said he had bought for me. I had a message in the office from my mother at school. I was suppose to meet Iris and the lawyers in 60 minutes downtown and I knew I would be pushing my luck with traffic. I hurried down the hallway trying to rush past the hoards of students trying to leave this hell hole too. I past the stairwell to find Brandon stepping down them.

"Hey Dylan…where you going so fast?" he said trying to match my fast walk. Whatever Brandon had to say, I knew I didn't have time for it. Then…if I wanted to get back in his good graces I couldn't be that much of a dick.

"I gotta be someplace…what's up?" I kept walking.

"I was hoping we could talk." his voice sounded genuine. I stopped at my locker and looked at him. His expression looked sincere too. I began to open my locker and set my books in.

"Look I'd like that but I have to meet my dad's lawyers and my mother, its a long story." I forgot Brandon didn't know about my father and his recent running from the law issues.

"You don't have time to tell me about it?" I shut my locker quickly.

"Not really." I exhaled and continued to walk away from him.

"But you do have time to make out with my sister." he grabbed my arm swimming me to face him. Sincere my ass, I pulled back my arm roughly. "Or is that just until next month when suddenly you won't have time for her either."

"What's your point?" I was so not in the mood for this right now.

"My point is you better really like her, like I told you before, she is very romantic and dreamy and sweet, she isn't going to move on that easily."

"Brandon…" I warned him, if he mentioned she was a virgin again I may smack him.

"Look Dylan…you're my friend…Brenda is my sister, you two are my best friends, my family…I just want to make sure this isn't just some girl you see as a challenge. If you like her just tell me that, I only wanted you to be honest with me."

I looked down my tongue hitting the inside of my cheek, he was right. I wasn't honest with him.

I took a step closer to him, "Brandon…" I made serious eye contact with him, "I like your sister more than I have ever liked any girl." I swallowed hard, "I may even be in love with her." I said quietly. I looked down before I looked at him again. I was a little embarrassed to be so open, but I knew he deserved to know the truth.

His eyes widened. It took a moment and he smirked, "My god." he whispered, "Dylan McKay…in love?" I rolled my eyes now a smirk falling on my face too.

"You tell anyone about this, especially Brenda..before I do that is…I get a shot at that pretty boy face of yours." I joked.

Brandon's hands came up as he shook his head. "My lips are sealed bro." he looked at me exhaling the deep breath he visibly took. He held out his hand. "Friends?"

I smiled and met his hand in a firm hand shake, "Yeah…friends." I agreed. "I'll see you later, I'm picking up Bren later." I winked at him and he playfully rolled his eyes with a shake of his head. I turned to continue now that I was absolutely going to be late.

"Dylan?" he called out and so I turned around. He held up his finger pointing at me, "If you hurt my sister…I get a shot at that pretty boy face of yours too." he said with a tint of humor behind his voice, but serious eyes.

I chuckled and nodded, "Deal…Later B." I called out walking down the hallway.

"Later brother." I heard him call out back. Brother…I sighed hurrying to my car. Brandon was like a brother to me and maybe…just maybe one day he would really be. I know…I was whipped. Fuck my life.

There you go, Brandon and Dylan made up. *GRIN* So how did you like it? Kelly and Brandon's talk was good huh?
