The paramedics soon arrived. Alesha didn't let go of Matts hand until Ronnie pulled her away so the paramedics could do their work.
"Let them do their job." Ronnie whispered kindly into her ear.
Alesha didn't respond and turned away for the first time. She was nearly sobbing but kept them back for the sake of Ronnie and Jacob.
The paramedics set about working on Matt.
One of them moved the coat and gave it back to Ronnie. Ronnie looked at the blood now on it and folded it out of sight.
The other paramedic was putting bandages on Matts chest to stop the blood going everywhere. They then got a gadget ready, Alesha didn't know what it was for but looked very important.
Matt's eyes kept darting over to Alesha and Ronnie for guidance. Ronnie gave him a smile when he caught Matt's eye.
"Suspected pneumothorax. We've got huge blood loss here. We need to get him there as soon as we can." One of them said.
Alesha was biting her nails with worry. She really cared about Matt and wouldn't be able to cope without him. Ronnie started rubbing her shoulder to calm her a little.
"He's got to make it Ronnie." Alesha whispered.
"You know you're talking about Matt. he's as stubborn as an ox Alesha he'll make it." Ronnie calmed her.
"Yeah. Stubborn old thing." Alesha gave a little chuckle fighting back tears.
Suddenly a beeping sound disturbed them. It was coming from Matt and the paramedics.
"What's going on?" Alesha asked looking over.
"He's crashing!" One of the paramedics said.
Ronnie groaned as soon as he heard this. This wasn't good. Ronnie could see the confused look in Alesha's eye so turned her away from the paramedics to let them work.
The paramedics put patches on Matt's chest and charged the defibrillator. Ronnie looked back just to check what was happening.
"Charging." the paramedic said.
"Alright stand clear." The other said.
"Shocking." The paramedic shouted so people could get out of the way.
Alesha just managed to look over Ronnies shoulder.
Matt jolted upwards as the shock hit him. Alesha turned away after she saw it.
The paramedics went back to fighting for the young DS's life.
"Come on Matt fight!" Alesha prayed.
All seemed lost until…
"We have a pulse!" The paramedic said.
Alesha looked over. The paramedics could finally put Matt into the ambulance. They put him on a stretcher and loaded him in.
"Alesha you should go." Ronnie said, rubbing her arm.
"What?" Alesha asked, confused.
"You should go with him."
"I can't. You go, you're his partner. He would want you there." Alesha smiled.
"Okay. Meet you there."
Ronnie waved as he got into the ambulance as they closed the doors. Alesha watched it drive off. She had wanted to go but Ronnie and Matt got along too well to let that happen.
Alesha's phone began to ring as the ambulance left. She picked up the phone. It was James Steel. She decided not to pick it up and put it back in her pocket.
"Miss Phillips?" A small voice said.
Alesha quickly turned to where the voice came from. Kaden was standing behind her trembling from head to foot.
"Is Mr Delvin going to be okay?" He asked with a shaky voice.
Alesha looked at the ambulance leaving. She didn't know how to answer Kaden. Ronnie hadn't known how to answer her questions so how was she supposed to answer herself.
"I don't know." Alesha finally said.
"This is all my fault." Kaden said sinking to the floor.
Alesha went over to him and put her arm around him. Even though this was probably against protocol it didn't matter in a situation like this.
"Don't think like that. No one could anticipate that."
"I should have done."
Sirens sounded as the ambulance pulled away. Alesha watched it go, she just hoped they would get there soon.
"I don't know what I'm going to do." Kaden whispered.
"We'll find something. I'll make sure that we will." Alesha reassured the young teen.
"Thank you." Kaden said with a little smile. It was the first time Alesha had seen the boy smile and it made her a little bit more happy to see it.
Jacob was watching her just in case anything else happened. He had turned a blind eye to Alesha hugging the teen. Plus after all Alesha had gone through she didn't need someone saying protocol to her.
Henry came out of the courthouse looking around for his two colleagues. He soon found them and went over to them.
"What happened?" He asked Jacob.
"Matt Delvin's been hit." Jacob answered.
"What?! How?"
"The gang. They drove past and shot him."
"How's Alesha?"
"Being strong by the looks of it."
Henry soon noticed the press gathered.
"I'll keep them busy. You look after Alesha." Henry said waving at Alesha.
"Course." Jacob nodded.
Henry went over to the press to get their attention away from what was going on behind him. Jacob went over to Kaden and Alesha.
"I can get you to the hospital to see Matt." Jacob said quietly.
Alesha looked at him and nodded. She carefully got up with an arm still around Kaden. They both made their way to Jacobs car to go and see how Matt was getting on.
