After a few days of hard work, in between tossing his guts into the toilet bowl and craving chicken & waffles with lots of honey, Kurt had sketched out a few designs for his new children's clothing line. He obviously started by coming up with cute baby onesies that would help him announce the news to Blaine.
The first was a red onesie with the phrase 'I'm adorable, just like my Daddy' in a white cursive font with a border of pink hearts. The second was a grey onesie with a Lima Bean inspired to-go coffee cup with the phrase 'I know my daddies coffee order' written in a black Arial font. The third outfit was a pair of footie pajamas in off white with mini music notes and mini shopping bags scattered throughout. On the backside of the Outfit were the words 'I dress like my Daddy and can sing like my Papa' in a bold royal blue font. Last but not least, was a quarantined themed onesie. This last onesie was leaf green with a quote that will perfectly announce the news, and should give Blaine the final clue if he had yet to guess with all the other hints. It read 'Quarantine wasn't so boring. Surprise! Baby Hummel-Anderson coming soon!' written in white letters. If Blaine didn't understand the meaning behind this shirt, then he was truly clueless.
Once Kurt had scanned the designs into his laptop, he grabbed an envelope for each of the four sketches. He labeled them in the order in which he wanted Blaine to look at them. After they were ready, he hid them in his nightstand until he would bring them back out after having dinner with Blaine that night.
Kurt had already planned tonight's dinner out in his head. He would cook one of Blaine's favorite meals, followed by Kurt's favorite dessert and then would show Blaine the sketches after telling him about his new clothing line.
Unfortunately for Kurt, the night did not start off as he planned. As he was putting together the Fettuccine Alfredo, he got a wave of morning sickness and while he was emptying his stomach, the homemade Alfredo burnt while the pasta became overcooked and way too soft. And then once he had returned to the kitchen to find the disappointing mess, he had checked the oven to see how the cheesecake was doing, only to find out that it was completely unbaked. Turns out, their oven died not long after Kurt had preheated the oven and placed the dessert in to bake.
Frustrated with the turn of events, Kurt started mumbling to himself as he started to get rid of the disaster. He said, "Well this is just great! How am I supposed to tell Blaine now? I wanted to make this a special night. Now it's ruined!"
Dropping the pots into the sink and shoving the unbaked cheesecake into the trash, he gave into his emotions and started crying as he dropped to the floor in front of the sink. Wrapping his arms around his knees, he dropped his head and continued to cry.
This was how Blaine found him after hearing all of the loud noises coming from the kitchen. He had given up finding any inspiration for a new song and had decided to see if Kurt needed any help with dinner. But as he opened the studio door, he heard the loud banging of metal against metal and then a loud thump. Worried about Kurt's safety, he quickly rushed to the kitchen, only to be confused when he could find Kurt standing at the sink or stove. And he walked around the small island, that is when he found his husband, crumbled up on the floor, with tear stains down his face and shirt.
Rushing to his husband's side, Blaine sat on the ground next to Kurt and gently pulled him into his arms. After trying to calm him down, he finally got Kurt to stop crying after 5 minutes passed by. As he continued to rub circles along Kurt's back, he said, "Honey, what's wrong?"
Attempting to hold the tears back, Kurt sadly said, "I was just trying to make you dinner. And then as I was nearly finished with the main dish, I all of a sudden felt sick and had to rush to the bathroom. And then when I returned, everything was overcooked!"
"Oh, Honey, do not feel bad. It's just food. We can just order in. Maybe order from that Italian restaurant down the street that you love so much," Blaine said hoping he could cheer his husband up.
Nearly in tears again, Kurt continued, "But… But that wasn't the only thing that went wrong! I also made a cheesecake to share. So after discovering that dinner was a complete waste, I figured, hey, at least we still have the world's best dessert. Only to find out that when I opened the oven, it was completely cold. And the cheesecake was completely unbaked! So not only do we not have anything to eat for dinner or dessert, now our oven is broken! How am I supposed to cook if I can't use the oven?! And I still really want cheesecake!"
Wiping away the few tears that had leaked, Blaine said, "Then I guess we'll just have to order some cheesecake too! And we'll look into ordering a new oven this weekend."
Sighing, Kurt said, "That sounds nice, but I really wanted this night to be special."
"Sweetie, any night with you is special. Why does tonight have to be different?" Blaine asked.
"Because! "Because I have something I need to show you tonight. And it's something that is going to lead to a new path in life, so I wanted it to be something we would both remember!" Kurt said as he was both upset and frustrated with how the night had started.
Treading carefully, Blaine said, "We can still make the night special. How about I go order the food and you can set up the table with some romantic candles and put on some light background music. And then you can show me whatever you wanted to show me while we wait for our food to arrive. How does that sound?"
Blaine placed a kiss upon the top of Kurt's head before pulling him up to stand against the counter behind him. He then kissed his husband square upon the lips, putting as much passion and love he could convey in one kiss. He pulled away to finally see a smile upon his husband's face.
"Blaine Warbler, you still manage to take my breath away," Kurt said as he wrapped his arms around Blaine's neck. Resting their foreheads together, he continued, "I love you so much."
Holding Kurt in his arms, Blaine responded, "And you are just as adorable as you were the day we met. I love you too. More than you can imagine."
Placing one last kiss to Kurt's lips, Blaine pulled away to go find the take out menu. As Blaine busied himself, Kurt walked into the bedroom to grab the envelopes. With a giddy smile and a hop to his step, he returned to their kitchen, placing the envelopes down on the island before searching for a set of candles for the table. Once the candles were placed and well lit, he grabbed the envelopes once again and took a seat in his usual chair.
Blaine joined him at the table, sitting to his right, as he said, "I placed an order to be delivered in 50 mins to an hour." Grabbing Kurt's hand that was resting on the table, he continued, "Now, what was it that you wanted to show me?"
Taking a much needed breath, Kurt placed the envelopes in front of Blaine and said, "I talked with Isabelle the other day and we've decided to start a children's clothing line. And so, I wanted to show you the first few designs before diving any deeper."
Taking the top envelope into his hands, Blaine gushed, "Sweetie, I know anything you design is bound to be amazing. But I feel honored that you want to show me them first!"
Pulling the sketch out, he studied it for 5 seconds before says, "Oh, this is just absolutely adorable! I'm sure there are several parents or soon to be parents that would just love to have this!"
Seeing that Blaine obviously did not get the hint, Kurt urged him to take a look at the second sketch. "Take a look at this one. This was inspired by one of our favorite high school hangouts," Kurt said as he handed Blaine the next sketch.
Reading the phrase aloud, Blaine said, "'I know my daddies coffee order.' Oh Kurt, are those Lima Bean coffee cups?"
"Well, not exactly, because of copyright and stuff, but they're highly inspired by the one's from The Lima Bean," Kurt replied with a smile.
Once again, Blaine still did not get the hint. So Kurt handed him the third sketch, in hopes that he would finally understand the true meaning.
Placing a hand to his heart and getting a little testy eyed, Blaine gasped, "Kurt? Are those little music notes? And oh my goodness, look at those little shopping bags! They are absolutely the cutest!"
As Blaine continued to scan the sketch, Kurt gently pulled a second sketch out of the same envelope, this one revealing the back side of the outfit. He placed it in front of Blaine and waited for his response.
Reading the phrase on the sketch, Blaine once again gushed over the outfit, "Kurt, this is so special! I absolutely love that you designed an outfit for a family with two dads, just like we'll be someday. Do you have one for families with two mom's?"
Trying to hold back a giggle at how close Blaine was to the truth, Kurt easily replied, "Not yet, but I definitely plan to. Wouldn't want Santana and Brittany to feel excluded!"
Realizing that there was only one more envelope, Blaine said, "Honey, if these first three designs are anything to go by, I'm sure that last one is going to blow them all away!"
"Oh, it sure is, honey," Kurt mumbled to himself as he placed the last envelope in front of his husband.
Not quite catching what Kurt said, Blaine asked, "What did you say, I couldn't quite hear you?"
Taking a deep breath, Kurt answered, "All I said was that it would indeed blow the other three away. This one is by far the best one. Now open it and take a good long look at it."
Looking at Kurt's face quickly, Blaine had trouble reading the facial expressions his husband was making. It almost seemed like he was both excited and nervous at the same time. But why would Kurt be nervous about this last design?
Pulling the sketch out of the envelope, Blaine slowly started to read the phrase on the onesie. As he was reading the "quarantine" part, he let out a bubbly laugh. He looked up and said, "Kurt, this for sure is going to be something that a lot of people will need!"
Starting to get impatient, Kurt said, "Honey, yes there will be a lot of parents out there that will need an outfit like this one. But this one is personalized."
A little confused, Blaine asked, "What do you mean it's personalized?"
Sighing, Kurt said, "Blaine, just finish reading the rest of the phrase!"
Blaine looked back down at the sketch in his hand and that's when he saw it. The design clearing had their last names on it. But why would it say 'Baby Hummel-Anderson coming soon'? They hadn't discussed starting a family yet. Well, they talked about it, but were still waiting a few more years before making them into actual plans.
Looking up at Kurt, Blaine asked, "Kurt, this says 'Baby Hummel-Anderson coming soon,' did you start the surrogacy process without telling me?"
Deciding that he had the world's most obvious husband ever, Kurt grabbed Blaine's hand in his own and slowly brought it down to rest on his belly. Starting intensely into his husband's eyes, Kurt said, "No, that means exactly what it says. Baby Hummel-Anderson. As is in, a little bit of me and a little bit of you, all mixed into one beautiful child, currently in the making. To be arriving late this year."
Still processing what Kurt said and where he had placed their hands, Blaine asked, "Wait, are you saying what I think you are saying?" From the sounds of it, it seemed like Blaine finally understood what this special night was all about.
"If you are thinking that we're about to have a baby, then you're correct. Blaine, by some miracle, I'm pregnant. With our baby," Kurt answered with a huge smile.
Pulling Kurt into his arms, Blaine kissed him before asking, "Wait, how is this possible? And you are absolutely sure? Because this makes me so unbelievably happy and I would be so sad if this was just a fluke."
"Sweetie, it's true. I took a test. Well, actually, I took several tests. They were all positive. Each and every one of them. And before I took them, I actually had googled my symptoms online. Turns out that men really can get pregnant on their own. It seems like only a small percentage of men ever actually find out that they can have babies, because many are straight or if the ones that are gay, they either always use protection or do not bottom. But anyways, that's not really important. What's important is that we're starting a family. And we don't even need to hire someone else to carry each child we want to have," Kurt said as he rested his head against Blaine's chest, loving the feeling of Blaine's arms wrapped around him.
Looking down at Kurt with so much love in his eyes, Blaine said, "Kurt, you've just made me the happiest man, no, happiest father in the world! We're gonna he daddies! I can't wait to see a little girl with your sense of style and adorable face running around here. Or a little boy with hair dancing around and on top of furniture. This is by far so worth celebrating!"
Holding onto Blaine tightly, Kurt smiled and said, "I just feel incredibly luckily. I can't believe that I can actually grow a human inside of me!"
Just as Blaine was about to agree with his husband, a loud buzz rang throughout the apartment. This signalled the arrival of their dinner and dessert.
Jumping up out of his seat, Blaine quickly went to the intercom to let the delivery boy into the building. Five minutes later, Blaine was unpacking their meals from the paper bag and placed the cheesecake in the fridge for later.
The two soon to be parents sat down together and consumed a delicious Italian meal. As they finished up and started to place the cheesecake on plates, Blaine suddenly had a realization.
"Kurt, how are we going to tell your parents? What is Burt going to think when we tell him that I knocked up his son?! And what about Cooper?! He's gonna want us to name the baby after him. Whether it's a girl or boy!" Blaine said as he started to freak out about the different conversations that would come in their near future.
Neither of the men know when or how they would tell each member of their family or even their closest friends. But one thing they knew for sure, this baby would sure be loved by many people. He or she would have grandparents that would spoil them. And an uncle that would teach them everything he knew about acting and how to point their finger when talking directly to someone. And surely their baby would have many adoptive aunts and uncles from the members of both New Directions and the Warblers.
Before they could worry about telling their friends, they would first need to survive telling Burt and Carole. Kurt for one, wasn't all that nervous, as he had already told both Isabelle and Blaine. Blaine on the other hand, was fearful of Burt's reaction. Even though Blaine had been married to Kurt for 5 years, and had been with him for quite a few years before that, this would confirm to Burt that they indeed had a sex life. Yes, he knew that all married couples have sex, but it felt so scary to actually have living, breathing proof. Never in his life had he ever planned to say to Burt, "Hey, guess what? I knocked up your son! Hope you are ready to be a grandparent?!" Yeah, Blaine definitely was not ready for this.
