Most stories of Bella being a vampire she is a newborn so I wanted to make her older so she had more respect and was treated less like a child. I wanted a strong Bella. I also like her being called Isabella, she is centuries old after all.
In biology I got to share a table with Edward. We sat in silent companionship for most of the class. Both pretending to listen to the lecture and take notes. Towards the end of class the teacher had us work independently on our assignment.
Edward spoke quietly and fast so only I could hear him, "What are you thinking?"
I look confusingly at him. What a odd thing to ask. He must have seen by my expression that I did not understand his question because he spoke again.
"I can read all minds, apart from yours. This has never happened to me before. It is extremely frustrating." He explained.
I smiled a wide smile. I enjoyed when my gift presented useful. It wasn't often I ran into a vampire whose gift worked in the mind. A gift that my shield would block. This must be why he looked disturbed when we first met.
I decided to put him out of his misery. I pushed my shield away from myself to allow him to hear what otherwise I would say with my voice.
Well that'd be because of my gift actually. I am able to shield my self from gifts that work in the mind.
His eyes widen when he hears my thoughts.
What a lovely way to communicate. Very intimate and vulnerable... I think to myself
He smiled a small smile and I let my shield snap back into place. He notices and let's out a small growl in frustration.
I laugh quietly. Embarrassed by the nature of my thoughts. Edward may be the only one to really be able to understand me. I could make him see how I felt about my existence. I don't feel so alone in the world when I'm next to him.
I notice now how our bodies have moved in our chairs, leaning towards each other unknowingly to the point we were almost touching. I straightened up and flipped my hair, I simply gesture to act human.
The bell rang signaling the end of class. I let out a unnecessary steadying breath, breathing In Edwards lovely scent submitting his scent to memory immediately. I stand to leave.
Edward has made his way around the table and is standing with his arm ready for mine.
"May I escort you to your next class?" He asks.
I smile. "Yes please, I have gym next" I answer.
He walks me to the gymnasium doors and stops.
"We will meet you in the parking lot after school" he reminds me of our after school plans. "The gym teacher will not have you participate today, he will let you watch."
"I will see you after class Edward" I agree and enter the gym.
Edward was right. The teacher allowed me to watch class for my first day. I sat in the bleachers and spent the class period thinking of my pending visit with the Cullen family. Would they accept me in the area sense I drank from animals as they clearly do. I thought about my visit all those years ago with the Irish clan that gave me the idea to hunt animals. Is this coven the one they talked about? Was Edward the man of great compassion?
After gym school was over for the day. I walked at a human pace to the parking lot despite my excitement.
When I came into view of the lot I noticed Alice and Edward standing with each other by my car, waiting for me. Alice turned to see me walking towards them.
"Hi Isabella!" She seemed to jump in place and wave. I enjoyed her excitement towards me, it made me feel welcomed.
"Hello again" I greet as I pull my car keys from my pocket. "Shall we?" I raise an eyebrow and raise my keys tentatively at my car.
"I let the whole family know that we will be having a guest, so everyone will be home to meet you! You can follow behind Edward and I" Alice responded.
"I will be right behind you" I smile nervously.
Alice turned away and skipped to their car. Edward stayed a moment and looked at me.
"Everyone will be very welcoming Isabella. No one would risk embarrassing Carlisle" Edward soothed. He can see straight through me. I nodded and turned to get in my car.
I waited for Edward to join his sister and when they pulled out of the parking lot I was right behind them.
