Chapter 5
Jess was dozing with his arm lying across his wife's body. His body kept her lying on her side even though that baby would come any day now. Her OB/GYN wanted her to stay on her side as much as she could and avoid lying on her back when sleeping.
Angelyne was suddenly awake, "She's coming!"
Jess was now fully awake, too. He pulled himself out of bed and grabbed clothes and Angelyne's "baby go bag," which sat next to her "Army go bag" in their closet. It was early morning as dawn started to shake off the night's last bit of darkness. He grabbed a coat and put around his wife's shoulders as they made for the garage. It was a short drive to the hospital. They lived on the Skye farm in a cozy cottage away from the main house and the barn.
By late afternoon, baby Natalia Skye LaCroix lay nursing at her mother's breast. Family had come and gone. Flowers and balloons decorated the hospital room with a festive atmosphere.
"Jess," Angelyne's voice broke him out of his reverie. "I think she's done for now. She's asleep."
Jess got out of the chair and leaned over the bedrail, "Do you know how much I love you?"
He carefully gathered the tiny bundle and returned her to the hospital crib.
While watching his child sleep, "I don't know which day was happier - the day I married you or today."
Dr. Brown finished the surgery on the vascular resection for today. The wound was again left open with a drain. He cleaned himself up and heading for the family meeting in the waiting room.
