When Chara opened her eyes, she noticed several things, the first being that she was back at the hall's entrance next to the save point. Looking down she saw that she was in Frisk's body and in the back of her mind she could feel Frisk, struggling to regain control. Chara smiled as she easily overpowered her.
"Chara, please!" Frisk cried desperately. "Don't do this!"
"But Frisk, hasn't anybody ever told you?" Chara replied as she opened Frisk's inventory. "Always finish what you started." After which she threw Frisk into the deepest part of her mind, silencing Frisk.
Chara pulled The Locket out of her inventory, equipping it. "Right where it belongs."
Tightening her grip on her knife, she began to walk towards Sans, who was still waiting patiently halfway down the hall. As she got closer, she could feel the LOVE inside her getting hotter and could feel the concentrated determination running down her cheeks like hot angry tears.
When she finally reached Sans he said, "huh, guess you must have changed your mind? weird, well, guess we'll just keep doing what we've been doing." and they entered a FIGHT.
Sans started off with his usual first attack, Chara, having seen it countless times, avoided everything effortlessly. When it was her turn, she pressed the FIGHT button without even hesitating. Sans dodged it automatically, but Chara wasn't worried. She knew that he would get tired eventually.
After thirteen rounds of dodging attacks on both sides, Sans finally sighed and said, "you're not frisk are you?"
Chara was surprised for a brief moment, but she didn't show it, simply smiling instead.
"i thought so, no you're some kind of demon that took control, aren't you. i suggest you give it back, or you're gonna have a bad time." he said as he spared her.
Chara immediately attacked, thinking he was off guard, but he dodged it just as easily as all of her other attacks.
"welp, it was worth a shot. guess you like doing things the hard way, huh?"
For a second everything around Chara turned black, and when she could see again, there were two blasters on both sides. She quickly ducked, avoiding their beams just in time. Before she could breath a sigh of relief, everything went black again. When everything was back, Frisk's SOUL had turned blue and was on the floor, knowing what that meant Chara immediately jumped as bones erupted from the ground. The world went black again, and when it returned, Frisk's SOUL was blue again and a bone wall on each side was hurtling towards her, forcing her to quickly jump over them.
It was finally her turn, but Sans had a bone that was running back and forth over the FIGHT button. Chara quickly pressed it before the bone hit her hand, and slashed at Sans with her knife.
After dodging her attack Sans said, "sounds strange, but i was secretly hoping you would actually listen to me." Before turning Frisk's SOUL blue and sending a wall of bones at her, which she easily jumped over.
"i thought, maybe if you did, we could i don't know, get some good food, have some bad laughs, and we could all be friends." Sans said after Chara's next attack before sending his own.
"but that's ridiculous, right? yeah, you're the type who won't EVER be happy."
Chara said nothing but grinned as determination dripped from her face.
"you just want to consume this timeline until... well. hey. take it from me buddy. someday... you gotta learn when to QUIT."
Sans tried to throw her off guard again by turning everything dark, but she was ready for it, and effortlessly dodged his attacks.
"and that day's TODAY." Sans said as he sidestepped another slash from Chara's knife before sending several bones hurtling towards her.
"cause... y'see... all of this fighting is really tiring me out." Sans said as drops of sweat began to appear on his forehead.
Chara slashed at Sans which he dodged while summoning blasters. Chara leapt backwards to avoid their beams.
"and if you keep pushing me... then i'll be forced to use my special attack." he said, as Chara noticed that he was starting to breath harder, before summoning blasters.
"yeah, my special attack. get ready. cause after the next move, i'm going to use it. so, if you don't want to see it, now would be a good time to die."
Chara's smile widened as she swung her knife, making a tear in Sans' jacket as he barely dodged her attack.
"well, here goes nothing... are you ready? survive THIS and i'll show you my special attack!" Sans said, his eye sockets black voids, as he used his SOUL magic to turn Frisk's SOUL blue before sending it and Chara against a wall.
Chara jumped, avoiding the bones that erupted from the wall, before she was sent flying onto the opposite wall, where she jumped in time to avoid more bones. Her vision flashed, and Frisk's SOUL was red and she was on the ground again, as bones moving up and down sped towards her. She ran in a very tight circle, narrowly avoiding them.
Before she could relax, Sans turned Frisk's SOUL blue again, and sent Chara flying towards the hall's entrance before flinging her all the way down to the other end. On the way dozens of bones erupted out the floor and ceiling, forcing Chara to twist Frisk's body up and down to avoid them. When she reached the opposite wall Chara immediately crouched low and jumped as more bones burst out of the wall.
Her vision flickered several times, each time she was standing on a wall or the ceiling back in the middle of the hall, and each time she could see she jumped, avoiding the bones that Sans had summoned.
After jumping four times, and her vision cleared, dozens of blasters began to encircle her and fire their beams. She immediately began to sprint in a circle. After running in a circle and the last blaster fired its beam, Sans grabbed Frisk's SOUL with his magic and began to angrily slam Chara against the walls, ceiling, and floor of the hall. For the first time in the FIGHT Chara began to take damage as she was soon covered in bruises and small cuts. But, after a few seconds, Sans' attack began to slow, before finally coming to a halt, turning Frisk's SOUL back to red.
"huff... puff... all right. that's it." Sans said exhaustively as he tried to catch his breath. "it's time for my special attack. are you ready? here goes nothing."
Chara waited a few seconds, muscles tense as she anticipated Sans' special attack. But after a full minute, Sans hadn't moved. Confused Chara tried to select the FIGHT button but Sans quickly used his magic and forced Chara back to where she was.
"yep. that's right." he said. "it's literally nothing. and it's not going to be anything, either. heh heh heh... ya get it? i know i can't beat you. one of your turns... you're just gonna kill me. so, uh. i've decided... it's not gonna BE your turn. ever. i'm just gonna keep having MY turn until you give up. even if it means we have to stand here until the end of time. capiche?"
Grimacing, Chara tried to move again, but was stopped by Sans as he forced her to stay put.
After another minute he said, "you'll get bored here. if you haven't gotten bored already, i mean. and then, you'll finally quit."
After staring at each other for another minute Sans said, "i know your type. you're, uh, very determined, aren't you? you'll never give up, even if there's, uh... absolutely NO benefit to persevering whatsoever. if i can make that clear. no matter what, you'll just keep going."
Sans was beginning to look tired as he continued, "there is nothing here for you. so, uh, in my personal opinion... the most "determined" thing you can do here? is to, uh, completely give up. and... (yawn) do literally anything else."
Chara grinned ever so slightly as she noticed that Sans was starting to nod off. After a couple of minutes of Chara holding her breath in anticipation, Sans fell asleep and was snoring quietly. Seeing her chance Chara began to slowly move Frisk's hand to the FIGHT button. Inch by inch she moved her hand towards the button, until finally Frisk's fingers were against it.
After a brief moment to collect herself she pressed the button and quickly swung her knife at Sans, who immediately woke up and sidestepped her attack.
"heh, didja really think you would be able-" Chara swung her knife again with everything she had hitting Sans so hard that he was knocked down, his HP disappearing in the blink of an eye. Blood began to leak from the corner of his smile and the large gash across his torso.
After a few seconds of shocked silence, Sans said, "so... guess that's it, huh? ... just... don't say i didn't warn you." Standing up he continued, "welp. i'm going to grillby's." he began to slowly limp out of Chara's line of sight, saying in a weak voice, "papyrus, do you want anything?"
The last thing Chara heard was his dust hitting the floor. She could feel the LOVE surge inside her. Opening her STATS she saw that her LOVE was maxed out at twenty. Smiling to herself she closed the menu and began to walk towards the hall's exit. As she left the bright hall and made her way into the grey brick corridor that led to the throne room, she could feel Frisk trying desperately to get out of her cage.
Before Chara entered the throne room, she passed it and headed to the basement. When she reached the bottom of the stairs, she looked to her left and saw a row of seven coffins. Each had a different colored SOUL etched on the lid and a name below each SOUL. The first coffin had a red SOUL and the name Chara etched onto it.
Walking up to it Chara placed a hand on it's lid and mused, "It's as comfortable as it looks."
Turning around, she walked back upstairs and made her way into the throne room. The throne room was a beautiful sight, with dozens of golden flowers covering the ground. Light filtered through some holes in the ceiling, giving the flowers a golden glow. At the far end of the room there was a grand throne, in a corner behind the throne there was another throne covered with a sheet, and a doorway. Standing in the middle of the room with his back turned to the entrance, was the King of all monsters, King Asgore Dreemurr.
Chara walked up to the King and heard him say out loud in his deep authoritative yet kind voice, "Curious. I've never seen a plant... cry before."
Turning around he saw Chara and said, "...huh? You must be the one that flower just warned me about. Howdy!"
Chara said nothing as she wore an empty smile while gripping her knife tighter.
After a brief pause, Asgore said, "Erm... What kind of monster are you...? Sorry, I cannot tell. Well, we can always-"
Before he could continue, Chara pulled him into a FIGHT.
"Now, now." he said. "There's no need to fight. Why not settle this, over a nice cup of tea?"
Chara slashed at him, reducing his HP to zero in a single hit.
Completely taken aback, Asgore stuttered, "Why... You..."
Before he could say anymore, a ring of Flowey's pellets encircled him before quickly closing in and reducing Asgore to dust, leaving only his white SOUL shaking. More of Flowey's pellets surrounded his SOUL and slammed into it, shattering it into little pieces.
Flowey popped up in front of Chara and said in a panicked voice, "See? I never betrayed you! It was all a trick, see? I was waiting to kill him for you!" Flowey made his face look like his old face when he was alive. "After all it's me your best friend! I'm helpful, I can be useful to you! I promise I won't get in your way!" Flowey's voice began to shake. "I can help... I can... I can..."
Flowey began sobbing. "Please don't kill me."
Spare him? Chara thought. Let him live, in a world where there's nobody left and nothing left to do? Why? This is now a meaningless world. Better to end his misery now, then let him live and suffer.
"That, is TRUE MERCY." she said, before slashing him over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over, until nothing of him remained.
After a few seconds of silence, Chara felt herself being pulled out of Frisk's body. When she emerged she still had her locket and knife, and she noticed that she was once again tangible, she could feel the cool cavern air fill her lungs, hear her heart pulsing blood in her ears. Standing up she heard a quiet choked sob behind her. Turning around she saw that Frisk had retaken control of her body and was kneeling on the ground, her head in her hands, crying.
"This is all my fault." Frisk said. "I should have never done this, it was a huge mistake! I'm so sorry Chara!"
Frisk looked up at Chara, tears streaming down her face, eyes still shut. Chara walked up to Frisk and grabbed her by the throat, lifting her off the ground.
"So tell me Frisk." Chara said sadistically. "What was all of this for? You killed everyone I had known and loved and for what?"
"It was for you, Chara." Frisk choked out, grabbing Chara's hand. "I did it for you!"
Chara dropped Frisk onto the ground. Frisk coughed as she gasped for air while massaging her throat.
"Explain." Chara said not really caring about the answer, but was still curious none the less.
After a moment of hesitation, Frisk sighed and began to explain, "I've RESET and gone back to when I first fell down here countless times. When I first learned what had happened to you and Asriel, I had decided to try and SAVE you. I thought that you deserved to be brought back after how selfless you had been, wanting to save all of monster-kind. So, I started to try and find a way to bring you back each time I reset the timeline. But, nothing worked and each time I RESET, your memory was erased along with everyone else's."
Taking a shaky breath, Frisk continued, "Eventually I ran out of ideas, leaving the only thing I hadn't tried. Fill myself with the maximum amount of LOVE, which I found out was a type of Determination, and transfer it all to you, bringing you back to life." Frisk looked up with fresh tears rolling down her face. "And it worked Chara, you're alive again! But Sans made me realize something I hadn't considered. How many live does it take to save a single person? How many lives is one life worth? After realizing that I knew this was a terrible mistake. That not only had I killed everyone you knew and loved, but had forced you to watch it all happen."
After Frisk finished her explanation, there was a moment of silence between them. Suddenly, Chara started to laugh. She laughed and laughed until her sides hurt. After a full minute she calmed down and grabbed Frisk by the throat again before slamming her into the ground. Frisk gasped in pain as Chara got on top of her, holding her in place with her free hand.
"Oh Frisk, you really think I would want any of this?" Chara said as she tightened her grip on Frisk's throat.
"Chara, please I just wanted to save you!" Frisk struggled to say as she grabbed Chara's arm with her left hand.
"But it's fine now Frisk, because I don't feel anything for them anymore. And now I'm going to make sure that you don't suffer in this pointless world either." Chara said before she plunged her knife into Frisk's stomach.
Frisk screamed in agony, as the pain spread throughout her body. Her vision was starting to get blurry as, with what little strength she had left, she did the only thing she could think of. Reaching out with her right hand she summoned and pressed the RESET button.
Everything began to get brighter and brighter until she couldn't see anything. Soon she could feel herself falling, the cold cavern air rushing past her face. Closing her eyes she waited until she landed with a soft thump onto the familiar bed of golden flowers. Opening her eyes for a brief moment she looked to her left and saw through her blurry vision, a yellow and green smudge laying next to her.
She closed her eyes again but, before losing consciousness something strange happened. Words flashed in front of her that she almost couldn't make out: Error. Timeline paradox detected. Attempting to compensate.
I wonder what that means. Frisk thought before passing out.
*To Be Continued in To ACT a Demon*
So, it's finally finished. I'd like to thank everybody for reading this, and thank you all for sharing your thoughts. Now as for the sequel, which I've already got an idea of where I want to go with, I probably won't post it for quite a while. But just know that I WILL be working on it whenever I can. Until then, I hope you all enjoyed reading this and hope to see you in the next one.
