Writers notes:

This is the first time I've ever written a Fanfic, or any kind of story really. I've always enjoyed the office, and this is just a kind of fantasy storyline that's been rattling around in my head for a long time now. lately I've been enjoying reading others fanfics about the show, so I thought it might be fun to give it a try. That being said, I totally understand that it may not be everyone's cup of tea, and that others may have a very different take on the characters than I do.

I've had some people question why bringing in the aspect of Roy being abusive didn't change the storyline more. My short and sweet answer to that is: having had personal experience with what abusive relationship look like, I actually always felt that the idea of Roy being abusive to Pam was a fairly likely scenario even within the on screen storylines we did get to see. All the red flags were there, so to me it didn't feel so much like changing a storyline, as much as just exploring one that was already quite probable with these characters, but never made it on screen.

For anyone who is enjoying reading it, I hope you continue to! As a mom of three it's been enjoyable for me to sit when I have some free time and put this story in my head into writing.

Out of the corner of her eye Pam saw Karen walk up and sit on the edge of Jim's desk. Pam took a deep breath and willed herself not to listen. It had been an uncomfortable day so far. She didn't know why it suddenly felt so very hard to ignore her less than platonic feelings towards Jim. It had been growing gradually more difficult for weeks, and then this morning, when he walked in with that hair cut, it was like the damn broke loose.

She liked the hair cut, she liked it a lot actually. But there was something about the way it was styled that was too neat. She had spent the entire day painfully trying to resist the powerful urge she had to go mess it up a little... To make him look like her fun, playful Jim again. Unfortunately her brain was not providing her with any ideas on how to accomplish doing so that were not wildly inappropriate... she was doing her best to push away visions of rather unprofessional interactions between herself and Jim, and she was sure that hearing his and Karen's flirtatious banter would only serve to worsen her mood and make it harder then it already was.. Unfortunately pulling her hands up and covering her ears was a non option, so she kept her eyes on her page of doodles and did her best to block out their voices.

"Hey, what if we leave tonight?" Karen said "you know, grab a bite, get a hotel room, enjoy the city a little bit?"

"Uhhh.. I just have so much paperwork to do..." Jim said in what sounded like a very convincing serious voice, but Pam knew better, she could discern the ever so subtle tone of playfulness in his words, and for whatever reason it caused a terrible pang of jealously to course through her.

Jim sighed heavily and scribbled something on the piece of paper in front of him. "Wow, done!" He exclaimed. "Let's do it."

They both laughed and Pam leaned closer over the top of her doodle, refusing to look up.

A few hours later a distraction arrived in the form of Jan coming into the office. Pam was glad for the opportunity to absorb herself in the disaster that was Micheal's love life, rather than obsessing over the non existence of her own.

Micheal asked her to gather the other ladies in the conference room for an emergency meeting. Pam took a deep breath and reminded herself she didn't actually have any valid reason not to like Karen as she walked over to her desk.

"Hey, Michael wants us all to go to the conference room." She said, Trying her best to make her smile genuine

"Jan again?" Karen asked.

"Yeah." Pam replied.

"Okey. Hey, before we leave today would you mind making half a dozen copies of Jim's and I's sales reports for our interviews?"

"Oh sure." Pam said taking the folder Karen handed her. She paused, and then added "I really hope you get the job."

"Thanks." Karen said, looking a little unsure.

After doing her best to support Micheal in not getting back together with Jan she headed to the copier to get going on Jim and Karen's sales reports.

Once the copies we're finished printing she took them back to her desk, resisting the urge to stop and tousle Jim's hair out of its perfectly neat and tidy state as she walk behind him. Then she separated and organized them, before placing them in two file folders and labeling them accordingly.

As she worked she pictured him sitting at an interview table with his perfect hair and handsome suit, his warm confident smile lighting up his eyes. She knew he was going to do an awesome job. Though his love of practical jokes and being mischievous might suggest otherwise, Jim was actually a really good leader, and excelled at pretty much anything he put his mind to. She was actually extremely proud of him for going after the corporate job. She wondered if there was some way she could pull him aside to wish him good luck before he left without making Karen upset and uncomfortable. Her eyes fell on the gold yogurt lid hanging from her computer monitor... and an idea came to her.
