A Jealous Hexenbiest
Grimm Supernatural/Suspense and a pinch of romance
Characters: Adalind B, Nick B, Khloe Sedgewick, Sean Renard, Rosalee
...
Nick had been distant lately. He had been working tons of hours at the precinct on a string of violent murders and he hadn't even been home in the last four days.
He had been initially telling his wife about the cases per usual, but he had suddenly stopped. It was a strange series of revenge killings that had spiralled out of control in the last three weeks. A semi-prominent poet had violently beaten a book author to death. A modern art sculptor had stabbed the poet to death. The sculptor had been suffocated in paint by a painter. A lawyer had proven the pen is mightier than the sword, stabbing the sculptor to death. Then things really got out of hand when a chainsaw artist had chopped up the lawyer and four other artists who went after him. The string continued with six more artists or writers murdering and being murdered.
Now Detective Nick Burkhart was missing
Adalind got a call from Sean Renard - Nick's police captain and father of their daughter Diana.
They exchanged some pleasantries about Diana's upcoming summer after finishing up 5th grade, the rest of the Burkhart children, and Adalind's legal work. Finally Sean got to business.
"Adalind, have you heard from Nick in the last few days?"
"No, I know he's been working on that weird string of murders, but it's been four days now and he's not answering his phone."
"I haven't heard from him since yesterday. I am pretty sure he's in trouble. The Musai is back in town and I am pretty sure she went back after Nick."
"A Musai? One of those artist muse things?"
"Yep. Her name is Khloe Sedgewick."
"What would she want with Nick."
"He's a Grimm. Give Rosalee a call. She will fill you in on the details. I just wanted to give you a head's up."
"Ok, thanks. Hey, do you still want Diana to come over this weekend?"
*grumble grumble* "I sort of have plans. Can you keep her this weekend and I will get her next weekend."
"Sure, no problem."
Renard smiled. He had warned the Muse over six years ago about ever coming back to Portland or going after Nick. Now, he would just let nature take it's course and he didn't even have to get his hands dirty. If he knew one thing about Hexenbiest witches - they were extremely jealous and vindictive. Adalind was especially so when Nick went missing.
A few minutes later Adalind called Rosalee
"Hey Rosalee, have you seen Nick?"
"Not in the last couple days, why?"
"I got a call from Sean. Something about a case Nick was working on. He said the Musai was back in town? Does that mean anything to you? He said you would fill me in on the rest."
She heard Rosalee quietly curse under her breath. "Hey, can you come over? We may as well get the kids over here. She was pretty infatuated with Nick and chemically manipulated him."
Now Rosalee heard Adalind transform into Witch mode on the other end of the phone. She heard ancient bony teeth grinding. Normally Rosalee hated dealing with angry Hexenbiests, but now she was smiling, because she hated that Muse even more.
Adalind finally arrived with the kids. Rosalee knew she was mad by the way she came stomping in. She was dressed for battle in a very attractive form fitting red business skirt suit with matching red high heels. Adalind asked for the details Rosalee knew, so she filled her in. It had been years ago back in the Juliette days, and Rosalee went through the whole story of how this Musai had become infatuated with Nick and had manipulated him chemically and hormonally. Then she told Adalind about how Juliette had to break her spell with the real thing - the only cure was true love itself.
Adalind smirked an angry smile "Well, Ms. Khloe Sedgewick, let's see about that!"
The muse had not paid attention when all her lights flickered and her electronics all went crazy for half a minute. It must have just been a power blip. She had not cared that The Grimm she could not get her mind off of for the last several years was married. She never considered that his wife could be a Hexenbiest witch. She didn't know that this witch had been practicing astral projection. And she didn't know that this witch now knew *exactly* where she lived.
At 1:18PM, a silver BMW X7 SUV drove up and parked right in front of Rosemount Apartments. A very attractive blonde haired woman stepped out in her red business suit with matching red high heels and purposefully headed straight towards the front door.
There was a locked security gate barring entrance from the street. The woman smiled and twisted her wrist without touching the door. The locks clicked, the door swung open, and the woman marched up stairs.
She found number 218 and likewise the door unlocked itself and swung open. She marched straight into the apartment and started looking at the giant collection of impressive and expensive artwork.
"Excuse me! What are YOU doing in my apartment?" said a slim, attractive brunette with an angry scowl on her face.
"Khloe! So good to see you." Adalind still had her back to the woman as she perused the artwork.
"Hello? Do I know you?"
"Me? No, probably not, but it seems you have taken a liking to my husband."
Khloe was indifferent to her "It's not MY fault if your husband finds me more attractive than you. You know how it is for beautiful women."
Adalind still had her back to Khloe looking over the artwork. "Perhaps a wife like me may not feel that way knowing you are a Musai."
Now Khloe was angry "You need to leave right now! It's not my fault your husband doesn't care about you." She didn't notice the electrical cords starting to slither out of various nooks and crannies all over the room.
Adalind was smiling a saccharine smile, still looking away at the artwork. She had smelled her husband's scent in the place. "I might beg to differ, and I believe you have already been warned."
The woman picked up a heavy blue glass paperweight and hurled it straight at Adalind's head from behind. At the last second the paperweight swerved and slammed into a beautiful handmade glass sculpture. Khloe had not seen the witch's bright blue eyes cloud over into a dull stick gray.
Adalind smirked, purposefully keeping her back to the woman. "Oh, now why would you go smash such a beautiful sculpture?"
The woman picked up a fireplace poker and slung it at the woman in red. It likewise swerved out of it's path at the last moment, ripped through a beautiful painting, and stuck into the wall.
Adalind's back was still turned to her. She smirked again "Not much of an art lover I see. Why would you go ruin a painting like that?"
"I'm calling the police!" Khloe screamed as she threw a bronze cowboy sculpture at Adalind's back, which likewise swerved away at the last minute and went crashing into a marble statue of a woman.
Adalind smirked again, back still turned "Now why would you go abuse a Remington like that? Some people have no appreciation for artwork. Why don't you take a seat so we can talk about this woman to woman."
"I'll do nothing of the sort! I want you out now!" The woman yelled an instant before a hive of electrical cords slithered and twined up her legs, pulling her down into a creaky black swivel chair which had crept in behind her unaware.
Now Adalind walked over to the woman, knelt down, and looked straight into her face revealing her solid grey eyes. She smelled her husband's scent along with the pungent pheromone cocktail the Musai exuded to entrap her male victims. She took Khloe's hand "Ms. Sedgewick, my name is Adalind Burkhart. I think you know my husband, the Grimm."
The woman was trying to scream but nothing came out. Her eyes suddenly went out of focus, she became extremely disoriented, and the room started spinning.
"I hear Musai are very manipulative. It turns out that I can be quite manipulative as well." Adalind walked behind her and ran her fingers across Khloe's face. As she did, she pushed vivid visions of roaring terrors into the woman. Khloe was now trying to scream and escape the raging images of Wesen claws, teeth, fangs, snakes, spiders, creeping slithering things, and being hunted in the black night by things she could not see. To her horror nothing would come out of her mouth.
Khloe transformed into a sparkly blue beautiful Musai out of sheer terror.
Now Adalind was behind her. She transformed herself into the ancient Hexenbiest witch corpse and walked back around again. She looked her sticky gray, shrivelled, lifeless eyes straight into the Musai's large crystal clear beautiful blue eyes eyes and ran the jagged black nails that tipped her desiccated leathery bony curled fingers across the Musai's flawless sparkly blue skin.
She ground brown broken teeth together and put her ancient stiff curled hands on the Musai's face again, pouring another round of unspeakable day terrors straight into the beautiful muse.
"No one manipulates my husband except me!" the witch hissed.
The Musai was still trying to pull and fight against the electrical cords which were slithering and writhing all over her body and the crashing terror which wracked her.
Now the cords started vining upwards to the ceiling beams. They twined up into the beams and started lifting the Musai up out of the chair towards the ceiling. She was straining and her eyes were wide open in sheer terror as she continued lifting towards the ceiling. Nothing would come out of her mouth except hollow gasps.
The cords kept twining her up and up and up into the ceiling. They finally wrapped her into a cocoon on a beam. The cocoon started tightening and tightening until a loud series of crunches echoed in the room followed by a long exhale.
"It's so nice we could have this conversation and come to an understanding" the old witch corpse carefully hissed. A drop of blood slowly oozed out of Khloe's lifeless mouth, still frozen in a scream, and dripped down into a priceless Chin dynasty vase.
The ancient witch corpse transformed back into Adalind. She took a quick peek in her makeup mirror and smiled as she touched up her flawless lipstick and hair.
The beautiful blonde haired lawyer with porcelain smooth skin looked around at all the expensive artwork and smiled a mischievous smile to herself "Surely an attractive young woman with millions of dollars worth of artwork would have retained a lawyer to execute her estate. It would be a shame to let it all go to the state". She made a mental note to herself of the woman's name and address.
At 1:41 PM, the apartment door smartly opened itself and a hotshot blonde lawyer in a bright red business suit with matching red high heels strutted out to her SUV.
Later that evening she tracked her husband down at a bar. He was curled up over a gin and tonic all alone. His eyes were hollow and empty. She sensed his emotions were a groggy drug addled mix of emptiness, confusion, and sadness. She could smell the Musai's pheromone stink on him mixed with sweat, stale coffee, and police car. He hadn't slept or showered in four days and was exhausted.
Nick nearly fell to the floor when his wife broke the Musai's spell by putting her hands on his face and kissing him. He was disoriented and confused from the chemical cocktail the Musai had drugged with. He literally could not remember anything from the past days but now his powerful emotions of love suddenly flooded out into her senses.
He looked at his wife overjoyed that she had finally rescued him. An exhausted Nick nearly fell asleep right there in the warm comfort of her arms while basking in her sweet, loving kisses. All he wanted to do now was feel her warmth on him.
