He felt sorry. He honestly did. That was why he left the gift.

After brainstorming what might be the perfect present for a once-imprisoned person, Héctor decided that two superhero toys (perfect for someone nicknamed Superhero) and a note explaining why the gift was given would be the absolute best thing to get Ernesto.

After all, he did need something to do: while they did free Ernesto from prison, he was still confined to his mansion. If security caught him anywhere outside his mansion, he would be arrested again.

Héctor didn't know what the point of that was, but he wasn't going to argue. Instead, he was going to try and make it more enjoyable. Confinement of any kind can be a letdown.

Now as he sat in him and Imelda's bedroom, songbook open just in case, he tried thinking of another way to help Ernesto. His eyes drifted to the toys on his nightstand, and to his guitar. He'd promised to do a concert in a couple weeks. Maybe that would cheer Ernesto up.

Invite him, a tiny voice in Héctor's mind told him, invite Ernesto. Héctor cringed. Not that it was a bad idea, but it was a long shot. Ernesto hated him. He wouldn't want to come.

"But he might," Héctor said aloud. "He might wanna come. You never know."

Would everyone be okay with it? What would Imelda say? Maybe he could keep it a secret. Yeah. Then that way, no one will be upset.

Héctor smiles to himself as he tears a page out of his book. As he draws the invitation, he thinks about all of the past concerts he did with Ernesto.

He hoped this one would be sort of like that.

Minus Ernesto actually being onstage.

That for sure wouldn't go well. He knew Ernesto would hate him for that.
