Thunder cracked outside and Emma flinched. It was silly to hate storms, but then again, curses did tend to come with thunder. She snuggled under the forest green throw blanket, clutching her hot chocolate for warmth. Killian had fallen asleep next to her watching Casablanca, and to be honest she felt like dozing off as well. The movie had been less than riveting, or maybe it was just that they were both so tired. Hope hadn't been sleeping through the night, or at all really, and especially with the storm, Emma figured that had only about 30 more seconds of peace.

Another thunderclap and Emma counted down in her head. Three...two...one… Right on cue, Hope started to wail. Killian stirred beside Emma, blinking sleepily. She smiled briefly, always loving how dedicated he was to their daughter, even when he was exhausted.

"Why don't you go up to bed?" Emma suggested, caressing his cheek. "I'll go get Hope back to sleep."

"Are you sure, love?" he asked, his voice rough from sleep still.

"Yeah, I'm sure," Emma replied.

She stood from the couch and stretched, her back cracking as she lifted her arms above her head. Pressing a quick kiss to Killian's cheek, she padded up the stairs to the nursery, where Hope was wriggling in her crib, eyes screwed up tight as she cried. Emma lifted her out of the crib and hugged her close, enjoying the way Hope's tears stopped almost immediately. She was tempted to sit in the rocking chair to try to get Hope back to sleep, but instinctively she knew it wouldn't work. Instead, she carried her baby into the bedroom she shared with Killian, not at all surprised to find that he had crawled into bed and almost immediately fallen asleep again. Emma climbed in beside him and set Hope down between them. Killian's arm immediately reached out, his hand finding Emma's. She smiled, more than just a little bit happy as she looked at Hope and Killian snuggled next to her. Maybe thunderstorms weren't so bad after all.
