Really Remus
When Regulus talks about his new friend Remus, Sirius doesn't believe he really exists.
Sirius Black is tired of hearing about Remus Lupin. Remus is all his younger brother seems to be talking about these days. Remus helps him with his coursework. Remus texted him a funny meme. Remus needs a make-over. Remus. Remus. Remus.
Sirius isn't sure if Remus even exists, because despite the amount of times Regulus has mentioned him, Sirius or James have never seen the other teen. Whenever they see Regulus heading into the library to study, he's going in or leaving there alone. When he gets a funny message, he never sends it to them. Plus, no-one wears dorky cardigans, so Regulus is clearly lying.
"Remus is useless at cooking," Regulus starts, as they begin to eat dinner. Sirius lets out a loud sigh at the mention of Remus' name and puts his fork down.
"What?" Regulus asks.
"I'm just trying to work this out," Sirius says, ignoring the curious looks the Potters are shooting his way. "Is Remus your friend or boyfriend?"
"He… what?" Regulus stares at him, confused.
"I'm just trying to work out why you've made up this new person," Sirius continues. "Are you trying to prove that you have a friend because you're jealous of me and James being besties, or are you trying to make James jealous by inventing a boyfriend?"
"I did not invent him, and I'm not romantically interested in him," Regulus snaps. His cheeks are slightly red as he glances at James. "And I'm not attracted to James."
It's clear to everyone at the table that the latter is a lie. James looks smug at the news, but Sirius narrows his eyes.
"Prove it."
"Prove what?" Regulus asks, exasperated.
"Prove that you really have a friend called Remus. Invite him over."
"Didn't you ever consider that I may not have invited him over simply because you're such an embarrassment?" Regulus snaps.
"Me the embarrassment?" Sirius starts, but he's quickly cut off by Charlus declaring loudly that the roast potatoes are the best he's ever tasted. He glares at Regulus across the table, silently issuing the challenge.
"He's here," James says, pushing Sirius' door open. Sirius isn't sure who, but there's an urgency to James' tone that has him climbing off his bed, discarding his magazine and following.
"It's lovely to meet you, Remus," Dorea says as James and Sirius enter the room. "We're so glad you're joining us for dinner."
Sirius glances over, still in disbelief that such a person exists, but the moment his eyes meet those of Remus Lupin, he feels breathless. He can only stare into those beautiful amber eyes, words failing him. Is this what love feels like?
"So, I think you owe me an apology," Regulus mutters. Sirius barely registers that his younger brother has even spoken. He strides closer, holding his hand out.
Remus brings his up, an adorable smile on his lips. He clearly thinks they're going to shake hands, but Sirius takes his hand, bringing it to his lips.
"Sirius Black," he says. "So… you're not dating my brother, are you?"
Remus stares at where Sirius has just kissed his hand. "No," he whispers.
"Perhaps I can take you to dinner?" Sirius suggests.
"Dear, Remus is having dinner here with us," Dorea points out.
"Yeah. I'm… but I'm free on Saturday," Remus replies.
Sirius can't help the smile on his lips. He looks Remus over, the dark-blond locks falling into his eyes, and the pale blue cardigan he's wearing. Remus is utterly perfect and Sirius is certain that he's in love.
"It's a date."
