Water

Fire

Air

You know the story. The four nations lived in harmony but everything changed when the fire nation attacked. The avatar, master of all four elements, was the only one capable of stopping them. But then he vanished. Of course, you know the true story. Avatar Roku died, betrayed somewhat, by his friend, Fire Lord Sozin. Fighting a volcano together to save his home, only to be consumed by the toxic gas.

Sozin left him there to die and used this opportunity to start a long war that consumed the world. The next avatar was to be an Air Nomad. A boy named Aang. Though he was young and didn't understand or accepted the fact he was the new avatar. He ran away and ended up being caught in a storm. Frozen under the water and wouldn't be found for a hundred years.

For a hundred years the Fire Nation waged its war on the other nations. Everyone lost hope for the return of the Avatar to save them. But none lost hope more than those that survived the fire nation attack on the air temples.

You see before Roku perished and before Aang ran away, there was a section of Air Nomads from each of the temples that wanted a change. They left and found one another before beginning an expedition across the world. They were searching for a new way to live their lives but would keep some of their traditions. They never bothered others and only stayed within a town for barely a day or two.

It was after the destruction of all the air temples that panic reigned through them. They were the last of their great people. Rumors have already gone around about their group and how they weren't a part of the temples. So, a collective decision was made that would change them for the better. They would run and hide, for they knew the fire nation would be hunting them down. If the Avatar wasn't at the temples then they would surely come for them.

In order for their people to survive, a change would be necessary. Finding empty land away from the Fire Nation's eye they began to rebuild but went for a more secretive approach. In hiding, they stayed with only a few of their own allowed out at a time. Finding allies that would help them in secret was one of their most important tasks. Eventually, a new way of bending was created for those who became warriors.

A way of moving with the wind but with a more violent nature. To be fast and strong as a hurricane. Sticking with tradition was something they tried to grow out of, but not completely. Of course, they did their best to recover special artifacts from the old temples. The stuff they didn't want to be kept as mere trophies. While some chose to stay with the old ways it wasn't frowned upon for the next generations to expand, adapt, and learn from the new ones being created.

Instead of peaceful Nomads, they've changed completely. While they were still one-hundred percent for peace in the world, actions were needed to make a difference. They remained in the shadows to aid those around them. Never revealing their bending unless it was necessary to help. Even when they revealed themselves it was done in a manner where no one would see them.

As the years passed they've grown stronger and evolved past the need to be nomads. They were more than simple monks now. Many of their own took up skills they've learned from others on the outside and helped prosper their new way of life. There were even a couple of people who they've helped that wished to be a part of them. Normally such a thing was impossible since the only ways allowed within their new home were air benders.

Things changed though. Learning to trust outsiders has proven to be beneficial to them. It wasn't long for their new home to be filled with those who were air benders or not. A new way of life was being created and it was allowing their people to thrive again. Despite all of this though they were still too weak to go public and allow the world to know they existed completely. Even when word finally reached them about Aang surviving after a hundred years of disappearance, they didn't show themselves.

Would that be considered harsh? Indeed it was. It was a necessity though. If the Avatar found out about their existence then so would the fire nation. They wouldn't allow everything they've worked hard to accomplish to be destroyed because of their connection with the Avatar. So for the greater good of their people, and their families, they did not interfere with Aang's journey.

Not directly anyhow. Remaining hidden from most of the world they did their best to aid those fighting in this war. While not joining any fights they did sabotage Fire Nation outposts and freed a few towns.

The hardest part of this all was knowing that others were taking advantage of the weak during these times. Groups of scoundrels gathering together to take over smaller towns not on the fire nation radar completely but left hopeless because of their influence all the same.

It was despicable to witness. As such the former monks devised a section of their people who would be the agents that traveled the most to aid the weak when all seemed lost.

They were the Clan of Rōra.

The United Republic of Nations, simply known as the United Republic, was the most significant accomplishment that the world had achieved once the one-hundred-year war ended. With the help of Avatar Aang and Fire Lord Zuko, this state was built to show the unity of the world. A place where benders and non-benders could live together in harmony.

The capital of this great state was Republic City. A large and modern metropolis is located off the shores of Yue Bay. Currently, several events have happened already that shook up the moderately peaceful city, you know, if you don't count the many triad gangs.

For starters, the Avatar was recently located within the city. Though things were not all that good with her since, despite doing good in helping stop some gang members extorting an older couple of all their savings, the cops didn't take well with her messing the area up to do so.

Then there was the rising tension between benders and non-benders. Protest rallies of upset non-benders getting tired of the bending triads keeping them oppressed. A revolution was rising; many within the government were getting worried about what was going to happen next. The police were doing their best in their fight against the triads, but with this new problem coming up, it was becoming difficult to have forces spread on both fronts.

There was more trouble heading their way. A new threat is on the horizon that could shift the balance of everything.

This was why it was time for a secret group to make themselves known to the world once more. Many thought that the Air Nomads had been extinct for years; The only remaining air benders known were Councilman Tenzin, the youngest of Aang and Katara's children, and his three children. But everyone was ignorant of the real truth. Forgotten they were but existed still they did.

A section of air nomads had left the temples long ago and have been hidden from the world throughout history. Recent events and information gathered have concerned them about the future balance of the world that Aang strived so hard to achieve while he was alive. They knew about the impending threat that was targeting the current Avatar, a southern water tribe girl by the name of Korra, and had sent one of their best agents to go find her.

This is where we find a young man standing up at the top of the bridge leading into Republic City. He was sitting high above the suspension that connected the bridge. From the looks of things, he was around seventeen in age with a light tan complexion. His hair was shaped with twists that hovered over each side. His eyes were slightly narrowed while having a sharp oval look to them. The iris of his eyes was a deep blue-green color that held mischief and a sense of adventure within them.

His face was a mix of sharp and soft features with high cheekbones. His clothing was pretty standard for someone his age but didn't disclose about him being a bender at all. He wore a loose, tan, short-sleeved t-shirt with a half robe wrapping going from his left shoulder down to his right hip. He had on loose, dark orange, almost brown, pants that came down to his knees. The half robe he wore coming down below his waist to cover his legs with an opening on both sides. A weird thing to note was that he didn't have any shoes on but sandals that fit snuggly on his feet. So even with him dangling his legs off the side of the bridge suspension, he didn't need to fear losing one of them.

His name was Xon Hü, he was assigned to assist the Avatar with her duties. He was also to teach her since they found out she still couldn't bend air like the other elements she could. Even after finding out she was now staying with Tenzin. He was one of the top benders of his generation and one of the youngest members of the Clan of Rōra. As such, while the veteran council wanted a much more experienced person on this mission, the Grand Master exclaimed how Korra wouldn't learn well from having another old guy trying to teach her.

So, with minor reluctance, he was chosen to take on this mission. He was briefed on his duties, the customs of the United Republic, and the specific individuals he was supposed to look out for. Not everyone within this state would be his friend, even when word about him got out.

Though he could worry about all that later. Right now, he needed to find the Avatar! He already had visited the island that Tenzin's family lived on but didn't see any signs of her. Which is what brought him back to entering the city.

As he sat above everyone, no one seeming to notice him yet, he couldn't help but grin and chuckled at the flowing traffic down below. So those were the famously known cars that Republic City was always filled with. Honestly, technology was impressive to him, but some of the old ways of doing things were more fun. Sure it was probably pleasant to ride in one of those motorized vehicles, but he found riding one of the many wild animals of the world to be far more entertaining.

Speaking of wild animals, he held his arm out as an albino iguana parrot landed on it. He smiled at the creature as it was gentle with its landing, so its claws didn't dig into him. Petting the hybrid animal, he enjoyed the light squawking she was made. Lowering his arm, he didn't flinch as she perched herself on his shoulder before nuzzling his face. Chuckling lightly, he stood up and dusted himself off. He grabbed the bag he brought with him and slung it over his shoulder. He also bent down and grabbed what appeared to be a skateboard.

Having an almost pill shape to it with both ends carved to a point. On the bottom, half were four wheels, two in front and then two in the back, that allowed for smooth riding. Xon stared at the suspension line of the bridge before looking at the street below.

"Well, Zeia, let's get to moving." The now named bird-reptile hybrid squawked once more in agreement. Taking a couple of steps back, he closed his eyes and began his deep breathing meditation techniques. Allowing the air around him to circle him. He smiled as he felt the wind blow around him. It was as if it were surrounding him in a hug. One that only a close friend would give you.

Opening his eyes, the smile on his face morphed into a confident smirk. Without hesitation, he ran forward before leaping off the suspension platform. Shouting in excitement, he placed the board he had beneath his feet. Landing on the wire of the bridge, he began grinding it down. Zeia had taken flight next to him while both ignored the audience they gained from the people down below.

Many had stopped to stare at the teen doing something never before seen, let alone with extreme recklessness. They watched him grind down the wire before kicking the back of the board with it allowing him to jump off the wired line. Their eyes were wide as he came down before grabbing another wire above him. Using it to swing and give him more momentum before landing on the ground with his board. The extra speed allowed him to keep rolling on past everyone near him.

Zeia was flying above watching him. Xon was rolling through the streets past each car or pedestrian that was around. People were curious or amazed at seeing him on such a creation. Their amazement would go to the next level as they watched him jump over construction work. Landing and swerving around, he came to a stop to look at what was happening. The construction was mainly a couple of earth benders setting the road back into place. The shop that was to the side also looked messed up a little bit. He was curious about what happened here, but he needed to continue.

Turning back around to give a kick to the ground, he pushed him and the board forward. The one thing about this little invention of his was that it was easy to get moving with it. The wheels and attachments allowed it to continue rolling without stopping on its own. Allowing him to cruise along if he wanted to and was fun when he added his airbending to it. Of course, considering he was supposed to remain discreet until he caught up with Korra, he would stick with the manual usage.

He spent probably three hours trying to find her. Despite rolling around Republic City, or at least a quarter of it, he had no leads as to where the girl was. He was curious as to how she wasn't seen even after the minor commotion she made when she arrived. Granted, that was like a day or two ago. Sighing lightly, he came to a stop near an alleyway and picked up his skateboard. Deciding to take a break for the moment, he sat down against the wall inside an alley.

Closing his eyes for a minute, he rested himself while Zeia perched herself onto a trash can. He wasn't sure how long he was sitting there for, but he was woken up by someone tossing a pebble at his head. Rubbing his temple to ease the stinging pain he felt, his eyes turned to two rough-looking fellows with matching smirks. The first one had on a bowler hat with a green rim. Wearing a plaid shirt with black suspender pants. The second man had on a red and black suit with his hair styled into an ugly pompadour style.

Judging by the fact the one with the bowler hat had four other rocks floating above his hand, he was going to assume that both of them were part of one of the bending triads within the city. Great. What the hell did they want?

"Well, well. What have we here Tonto?" The one with the red-black suit said. The green bowler hat one chuckled while walking forward a bit and crouched down.

"Looks like a tourist to me Zen. Haven't seen anyone like him around these parts. Especially with that type of clothing. Has to be far out of town." The man chuckled again while his partner took notice of the albino animal staring at them. Moving past his partner, he looked at the iguana parrot with a grin of his own.

"Yo, Tonto. Check out this animal. I don't think I ever have seen an albino... anything before! We could get paid well if we brought it back with us."

"Yeeeaaah, ya see the problem with that right there is that she belongs to me," Xon said while the two triad members could only laugh at such a statement. What made this guy think they would give a shit about that? He had a lot to learn about how they did things around here. Zen looked toward the guy sitting down and lifted his hand. Fire sprung to life in it. He watches with a grin on his face as the guy's eyes widen slightly in shock.

"Listen here, pal. You're new around here so, we'll cut you some slack, just this once. Ya, see you're currently in Triple Threat territory. We own these streets, we own these businesses, we own most of the people around here. Since you've decided to make a stop here, then that means we now own you. So, unless you want us to leave you here, burnt and buried, I suggest you allow us to take the bird and a sizeable amount of yuan as compensation for your ignorance." Tonto chuckled while the rocks he had in his hand were spinning around each other. Xon could only sigh before standing up. Both observed the unknown kid while preparing to attack if he tried anything "I didn't really bring any money with me to this city. I do have something that could be considered valuable and could be a nice trade." He reached into his bag and dug around for a bit. The two triad thugs were curious as to what he was looking for. Once he found it, he smiled before revealing it to them. When he opened his hand, they saw... a metal cylinder. They both growled while glaring at him.

"Are you messing with us?" They were ready to attack and show how they didn't take kindly to people toying with them.

"Of course not. Just take it and push down that small switch." He placed it into Tonto's hand. The man looked it over, trying to find the switch he talked about before seeing it.

"You mean this?" He asked curiously. His face was close up to see the switch on the side. He flicked his thumb down on the switch. What happened next was a big surprise. Right as he flicked it down, the cylinder sprang out fast into a metal staff. The angle caused the staff to end to stab him in the eye. He shouted and dropped the metal staff while holding his swelling face.

"What the hell-" Zen didn't get a chance to react as with Tonto dropping the staff it was left for Xon to kick it up to his hands before spinning it around and smacking the firebender in the face two times before kicking him into the other wall across from him. Twirling the staff around his body, he crouched low before sweeping the legs of the earthbender. Crashing to the ground before receiving a smack across the head with one end of the staff. Both were knocked out cold from his swift and unexpected strikes. Standing back up with his weapon on his shoulders, he couldn't help the smirk that came to his face.

"Everyone always falls for that trick." He chuckled before Zeia flew to his shoulder and squawked at the two down triad members. Patting her on the head, he grabbed his stuff and left the alleyway before those two could wake up.

It didn't take long for him to just aimlessly wander about the city again. Eventually, he realized that today was probably a bust in finding the Avatar. Deciding to use the rest of the day to relax and enjoy himself, he tried to find something that could provide him proper entertainment for the night that was coming.

Walking around, he soon heard a newsboy shouting about the upcoming pro-bending match tonight. He always wanted to come to see a game live himself. There wouldn't be a better time for him to do so. Despite his mission is a top priority, he had no reason to worry. He was positive he got here ahead of time than what was estimated before; Including the other one who was looking for Korra.

Hopping back on his board, he rode around the place before finding the stadium. Seeing many people make their way inside, he followed suit. Being stopped at the front about needing a ticket to see the match was annoying; with the cash that he was given for this trip, he was able to get a seat inside. He sat up a little bit higher than everyone else so he wouldn't be bothered but still be able to watch the match perfectly even if people started standing up due to any exciting plays that happened.

Relaxing back in his seat with his back against the wall, he allowed a grin to come to his face. He was excited to see this match since it was the last match needed for one of the teams to get into the finals!

"Ladies and Gentlemen! Tonight is the big game. The Platypus Bears vs. The Fire Ferrets. It appears that they managed to ferret out a replacement waterbender. Let's see if she is another diamond in the rough like the brothers from the school of hard knocks."

Xon looked interested. He and a few of his buddies back home always enjoyed watching or listening to the pro-bending league. Despite some protest from the old masters about it being a quote-on-quote, 'mockery' of the traditional way of bending. It didn't stop them from actually learning from each match and trying a new style of incorporating it into airbending.

The match started, and to say the least, this girl was way green. The first attack sent the man closest to her off the side. It was a penalty that was known to everyone here. This mistake cost her being pushed back a line. Then it happened. Two earth discs came up at her command, causing the whole audience to be shocked. For Xon, it made the grin on his face increase as he leaned forward. It was announced that this girl was the Avatar!

"About time, I found you!" He shouted to himself with people nearby looking at him oddly. He just ignored them as the ref came forward to state that the Avatar can continue to play so long as she sticks to using waterbending. The other players didn't look happy about the rule, but the match continued. Korra was being pushed back further by the opposing team. Despite being the Avatar, she hasn't gotten acquainted with this style of fighting. It was a shame. As the Avatar and from the southern water tribe, she would excel as a waterbender backer for the team.

It wasn't long into the round that Korra was blasted off the edge and into the water below. Xon shook his head with a smile. Moving from his seat and down the steps, he found his way to the waiting platform. It was set up for the players to recover after falling below. He was ready to intercept her when he noticed an older man got there first. Judging by his bald head, blue arrow tattoos, and angry-sounding voice, this was Tenzin.

He wasn't sure what they were arguing about, though it was most likely Tenzin trying to force Korra back to the island. Stepping forward, he put a grin on his face as the two of them noticed his entrance onto the scene.

"Hey there, Korra. Been looking all over for you. Now, I know this isn't the time since you have a match to continue, but after this, we need to talk. It concerns something serious."

"Just one-moment young man. Korra doesn't know you, and neither do I. None of the White Lotus has mentioned you, so whatever business can't be important. Korra is coming back with me to the island." Tenzin interjected, but Korra narrowed her eyes at the old air nomad.

"No, I will not. I do have a match to get back to." She turned away to head to the lift while Tenzin shook his head with a huff before turning away and walking up the stairs. Xon moved forward to stop Korra for just a second.

"Hey, before you go back up there, just some advice. You are getting frustrated with the match. Every time you get hit back, just take a second to breathe and center yourself. With each step, take a breath and then move on to your exhale. Inhale, move, exhale. Follow this pattern; you'll be centered and moving in circles around their attacks. Almost like the wind." He said with a smirk while she looked surprised, remembering the moves and lessons Tenzin taught her. She nodded her head before taking the platform up.

Grinning, Xon hurried back up the steps and to his seat. He took notice of Tenzin walking through one of the exits but stopped once the match began to see Korra play. He enjoyed the look that showed up on his face when he watched Korra, after being sent to the last line, begin to weave and move through their attacks as they came at her. Xon, himself, gained a smirk as he watches Korra dance like the wind around the attacks before retaliating with her own. The whole crowd was stunned at her new movements; it wasn't long before the Platypus Bears lost their juice.

The two brothers on the team took this as their chance to fight back. The whole team managed to knock everyone off in with a comeback, winning them the game. The crowd cheered wildly for that game; Xon himself stood up to clap his hands. He couldn't help but chuckle at seeing and hearing Tenzin's shout before watching the man turn away to exit the building.

While the stadium may be cheering for their victory, there was one person who wished to end such a thing right now. High up towards the glass ceiling, there was an opening. A figure in a dark outfit came down with a rope line attached to the roof. Lowering themselves like a spider before pulling a weapon off their back. A crossbow with a bolt already in place. This weapon was bigger in shape than a typical crossbow and signified that the person wielding it had the needed strength to hold and use it. Handling the crossbow firmly before placing their finger on the trigger. The wind blew past them, but they headed it no mind.

Xon had stopped his cheering. Pulling his collapsable staff out, he searched the area. There was something wrong here, the wind was speaking to him. His eyes glanced up; he saw the dark figure above. Right as he noticed them, they pulled the trigger. A large bolt came flying out. Seeing this, Xon acted quickly and flicked the switch before tossing his staff.

"KORRA! GET DOWN!" his shout was heard and said Avatar looked up to see his staff coming. Doing as she heard, she ducked with wide eyes. Then the sound of a metallic twang was heard. Turning her head to see that the staff intercepted a bolt that surely would have killed her. The assassin let out a surprised grunt from the interference before glaring at Xon. Swinging on the line, they detached before downing to the box that held the announcer. Immediately they began loading another bolt to fire. Xon wouldn't let the person get the chance. He ran before shocking the entire stadium as he jumped from the railing while spinning. Everyone could see the air carrying him higher with Korra's eyes widening at this guy being an Airbender.

Finishing his spin in the air, Xon threw two kicks that sent arcs of wind at the attacker. The assassin rolled out of the way before aiming the crossbow at Korra and sent his next shot. Korra's adrenaline was pumping, so she wasn't caught by surprise again. Glaring at the man she stomped her foot before sending two earth discs at her assassin. The first broke the bolt and the second hit the man in the chest. It wasn't enough to bring him down as the man rolled backward from the impact and was back to his feet. Seeing as his mission was interrupted, he chose the best option and began to flee.

"I don't think so!" Xon shouted as he managed to get his staff back from the arena floor before sending multiple arcs of wind at the man. Xon would jump from the arena to the stands where the audience was to chase after the man. The announcer was using this opportunity to commentate on the entire exchange between both groups. This would bring amazing publicity for them and would be huge news all around.

The assassin proved to be dexterous as he was nimbling evading and rolling out of the attacks Xon sent his way. The young warrior would jump from his position to slam his staff into the guy's back but the assassin used his crossbow to block the attack. Soon they got into an exchange of blows with Korra watching in amazement at seeing an Airbender fight with such skill and ferocity. While Xon wasn't being aggressive in his moves, each strike looked to be aimed at disabling the man.

Xon leaned back to avoid being stabbed with a bolt before kicking a gust of wind to push the man back. The assassin used this opportunity to shoot at Xon with his bolt with the airbender flipping out of the way as well as whacking it with his staff so it didn't hit anyone that could get hit from this. Looking up, he saw the assassin had gotten his grappling hook before shooting it up back at the opening he came through. Everyone watched as the would-be killer got away.

Xon gave a frustrated sigh but let it go. Normally, this would be when he gave chase after them, but he needed to stay with Korra. He shook his head and made sure to remember to get a letter sent of back to the clan in the morning. Looking back down at the arena, he could see the flabbergasted look on both Korra's and her teammates' faces. He chuckled at that since it was a normal reaction he got from time to time. "Guess this is where I introduce myself," He said before jumping back down to the arena. He collapsed his staff and they watched as an albino iguana parrot flew down and perched onto his shoulder.

"My name is Xon Hü," He pulled down on his shirt to reveal his left shoulder to them. On it, they could see a light blue tattoo depicting a large bird with its tail feathers looking as if it was made of air. "Member of the Zephyr Order and Clan of Rora. I've been assigned to be both your teacher and guardian from the assassin threat." Placing his left fist to his open right palm, he bowed before Korra with the poor girl's eyes widening to their fullest. Her shock was felt by everyone else in the stadium and across the world that was listening in on this match.

Finally, the existence of other Airbenders has been revealed to the world.
