In the sleepy town of Mystic Falls lay a girl tossing and turning in her bed with sweat on her brow and a distressed on her sleeping face, you see the girl was normally plagued by nightmares but usually only the type that would someone not yet an adult but not quite a child. Tonight instead of being of seeing failed test's and being late for a swim meet, she was dreaming of death that was to come and screaming that sounded to terrible that it struck sent shivers down the most seasoned soldiers spine. It rang of death and sorrow, but at the same time seemed familiar.
On the eve of her seventeenth birthday surrounded by nightmares and screaming Alice Richards life was changed forever.
I woke up with a violent twitch and the disgustingly loud of my alarm clock reading 4:30 am, I sighed to myself and thought that whoever designed morning swim practice before school deserved a special place in hell. Looking down at the sweat stained pillow I decided that maybe it was a good thing that my alarm woke me up when it did.
Slipping out of my bed and slipping on my r2d2 slippers I wondered out of my room and into the bathroom then looked into the vanity mirror and winced.
God I look a shitshow.
I idly traced the lines of my face and was decidedly unimpressed with my face at the moment. My dark eyes had bags that would make any raccoon look away in shame, my skin was a pale shade that I didn't know was possible with my skin tone with a drool stain that was on my cheek next to that scar that went from the corner of my right eye down to the top on my lips which were heavily chapped at the moment, and the tear tracks that showed that the dream that I had was not a happy one.
"Good thing I can't remember any of it." I mumbled to myself reaching for the face wash and toothpaste. I decided to forgo getting actually dressed and just slipped a sweatsuit over my swimsuit and get changed after practice, and showering was a waste because I took one the night before and I was going to get wet soon anyway. I scrubbed my face a little harder to get the droll off. Rinsing off my face I looked in the mirror again, "Looking slightly alive now at least." I said turning off the lights and exiting the bathroom. I walked towards the front door and grabbed my keys out of the fishbowl that Dad and I used for our keys and other things that we might need before leaving in the house.
Opening the door of my car and sliding in I let my head hit the steering wheel with a thump. "It's to fucking early for this." I looking at sadly at the backpack in the back seat, today was the first day of school so that means I can't go back to bed later.
Starting the car and rolling down the window to enjoy the morning air I began the drive to school. Living at the edge of town usually meant that it would be a somewhat long drive to school, but seeing how Mystic Falls was more comparable to a large village in size meant that It would take at most ten minutes. On the way I passed Caroline's house whose light was on and was no doubt beginning her rigorous facial routine. She and I became friends in freshman year after sitting next to each other in both English and math often teaming up to help each other to do homework after school. I was more on a acquaintance level with her other two close friends Bonnie and Elena neither being friendly or unfriendly towards them.
I pulling into the school parking lot at grabbing my backpack and was prepared to go into the pool deck when a voice interrupted me.
"A little early to be out isn't it?" The man spoke in a voice was a little to casual.
The hair on the back on my neck rose and every muscle on in my body tensed for a second, my tiredness from earlier disappearing leaving apprehension its place. I putt my hand in the front of pocket of my bag and smoothly pulled out my pepper spray as I did I heard the voice of my Dad calling from my memories.
"Always be prepared for the worst case scenario sweets."
Turning around to face the man I was struck by how blue his eyes were, he was wearing a leather jacket with an equally black tee shirt underneath with a smile the spoke of mischief and danger. Something else though was plaguing my mind something dangerous the man almost felt like..death.
I put on my best customer service smile and voice that I had mastered working at the local grocery store over the summer and replied. "The early bird get the worm as they say."
He left out a snort from under his breathe never taking his piercing eyes off me for a second then opened his mouth to speak again getting closer his eyes dilating to the point where the blue almost disappeared. "You want to come with me without a fight."
For a second I was almost compelled to do so, but then I felt feeling of utter dread overtake me screaming that if I went with him that I was not coming back. My smile never faltered the training I had with unpleasant customers coming in handy. My fingers tightened around the spray.
"I have a counter argument for you."
The man seemed stunned for a second like my refusal was the most baffling thing that anyone had ever said to him. "How did yo." As he was speaking I struck.
I sprayed him directly in the eyes, a solid hit, and then kneed him in the groin as hard as I could and then ran into the school. Turning back to see the man already recovering from my attack that would of left any other person stunned. The feeling of dread that was consuming me evaporated like I just cheated death.
It was safe to say that morning practice was the last thing that was on my mind now.
This is the start of hopefully an interesting story for everyone, it is also my first serious attempt at writing a story in years, so let me know if it's trash or nah lol.
