Here we go again with another small drabble, might contineu to post these for a bit, might start a small au thing to keep up on the backgburner whiel I work on my ongoing story, Counting the Days, IDK all I know is that its nice writing for y'all and I hope you enjoy what I have to offer.
Kurumu let out a small cry of happiness as she brought out another batch of perfectly baked cookies from the oven. Today she was trying a new recipe, self-made just for Tsukune! Adding a bit of pig's blood instead of using egg whites to satisfy the Vampiric young man, there was no way he could resist her now! Carefully, the woman reached down and split one of the cookies, undercooked just slightly so that they were a bit gooey in the middle, with only the barest scent of copper emanating in the kitchen now. The succubus had to seriously resist jumping up and down in joy, carefully placing the little baked goods in a bag and tying them up, the girl looked determinedly at the cookies. This was their third year at Yokai, and her last real chance to convince Tsukune to be with her...This had to work!
"Ok, now time to meet him outside the dorms with a nice motorboat!" The girl chuckled before she grabbed the small plastic bag and raced off a fire in her eyes to be the first to greet Tsukune this morning. Gleefully jumping from a window and extending her wings out to glide her way down towards her Mate of Fate.
As she zeroed in on their location, Kurumu saw familiar silver hair, with traces of pink mixed in. Of course, she got to him first! Moka always seemed to be one step ahead of her when it came to this sort of thing. Quickly landing, Kurumu prepared to leap forward and give Tsukune his usual morning pleasantries when she noticed Moka was hiding something behind her back.
Leaning in, Kurumu realized that the vampiress was holding a small package, much like her own. So she was trying to make him cookies, eh? The succubus let out a dark chuckle, fondling her own treats. Here was finally a chance to show her up for real!
"I stayed up all night for this, you know...Trying to think about what to get you for today. It's very special, you know..." As Moka spoke, her cheeks were slightly flushed, and she could barely look at Tsukune. The vampiress's fearsome, intimidating mage completely gone save for the fangs biting down onto her lower lip.
"R-really? I must have forgotten, sorry!" Tsukune's hapless and nervous smile made the succubus shake her head. Really? Well, even after becoming a vampire, he was still her Tsukune.
"Oh, it's alright...It isn't exactly a fond memory of mine either. Except for one part, Tsukune, do you remember when you first woke up after...You turned into a ghoul?" The memory made Kurumu freeze in place. Why was Moka bringing up that horrible night now?
"Of course, I do! You were trying to leave Yokai Academy, and I couldn't let you do that! Even if you thought you were putting me in danger, I could never just let you leave alone like that!" Moka slowly nodded, and Kurumu saw a tear running down her cheek.
"Right...That day, you told me live or die...You wouldn't leave me, that. That from that day on, we were in this together..." The girl then pulled the bag of cookies out from behind her back, her face flush with blood while she stared up at him. The tears falling in small streams down her cheeks now while she gave him a toothy smile. "It's been two years since that day, we are still in this together, right?"
Tsukune's face lit up like a lightbulb at the cookies' sight, making Kurumu gasp quietly from her hiding spot. He never...Never looked that happy when he delivered her carefully crafted cookies to him. His eyes never seemed to get that bright, even after the years of refining her cooking exactly to his tastes.
"Of course, Moka. When did I ever imply otherwise?" Tsukune sounded worried, reaching out to wipe the tears from her face gently, which only made more of them fall, making him blush and look away from her for a moment before grasping the package and taking out a cookie, it was shaped like a little bat. Honestly, how predictable! Looking carefully at the treat, the outside was lightly burnt all around. It was a little impressive, honestly, to get such an even blackening like that.
"I'm sorry...It seems I haven't quite inherited all of...Her skill in the kitchen. I understand if you don't want to eat-" Moka was cut off by Tsukune, taking a large bite from a batwing and beaming at her.
"What are you talking about? This is one of the best cookies I've ever tasted!" Kurumu felt like someone was gripping her heart tightly now, the best? But she had always poured so much into her baking for him? A little sob from Moka brought Kurumu out of her stupor, the vampiress trying to wipe the tears from her eyes as Tsukune panicked. "Ah, crap! Did I say something wrong? Did I do anything to upset you?! Shit! I messed up some vampire thing, right?!"
"No, Tsukune, it's not any of that...These aren't...They aren't sad tears. I'm just so happy it's overwhelming." The vampiress still had her grin on, her ruby eyes filled with pure elation staring at Tsukune. "I've just been...I spent so many years alone, and afraid...No one wanted me around, no one, so" She sobbed again, but it quickly turned into a chuckle.
"Look at me...I'm a pathetic excuse for a vampire, crying over a bag of c-cookies. If father could see me now, he would probably disown me!" The girl's cries became sadder, shifting in pitch before Tsukune surged forward and hugged her to his chest, starting to exude his aura for once. Forcing all the wandering students to look away in fear of incurring the Vampire's wrath while he comforted the girl.
"Shh, it's alright, Moka. Even if that does happen, and it won't. But if it does happen, I will still be here for you, no matter what. I promise you, Moka, you're never going to be alone again." Moka suddenly wrapped her arms around his torso, bringing him into a crushing hug while staining his uniform with her tears.
Kurumu forced herself to look away from the scene. Her own heart seemed like it was ripping itself apart now, looking at the special bag of cookies in her hand and sighed. She knew why Tsukune preferred Moka's cooking to her own, despite hers being superior in every way... Nothing could ever compare to a genuine piece of food from the one you loved most after all.
"God, damnit." Kurumu cursed herself while she pulled her legs up to her chest. It was painfully obvious now that she didn't have a chance at getting Tsukune's affections now. He didn't return her love. She was going to die a slow death from the lack of love from her Destined One... Slowly, the succubus stood up, looking back at the vampiric couple, there was an urge within her to interrupt now. Claim him for her own, but...She couldn't do that to either of them now, could she? Moka and Tsukune were her best friends in the whole world. Seeing them make each other so happy, it was just adding to the whirlwind that was tearing her apart emotionally now. Slowly, the succubus began to walk away from the scene...
"Hey, Kurumu! Where are you going? Class is going to start soon!" The voice made her stop mid-step, looking over her shoulder, the woman saw Tsukune waving at her with a smile on his face. Moka pressed to his side to try and hide some of the tear tracks on her cheeks. Looking at him, seeing the light in his eyes when he was looking at her, even if it was different from how he looked at Moka, it made a comforting warmth wash over her. Maybe, Tsukune did love her?
"Oh, um, I just forgot a textbook in my dorm!" Kurumu gave the boy a smile, forcing it from herself before the boy shrugged.
"You can just borrow my or Moka's copy for the day, Kurumu! Come one, we don't want to be late, do we?" Another wave of warmth and care seemed to radiate from the boy, and Moka nodded. Clearly not trusting her voice after that little episode of hers, and the feelings surged from the vampiress as well. Kurumu could feel it, both of them, their love for her, was something platonic, of course, but it was still enriching and making her heart stop destroying itself.
"Are you sure? I don't mind flying over there, you know, it'll be lickity split."
"Come on, Kurumu! You know revealing your true form is against school rules. Being friends with the future headmaster can only get you so far, you know." Moka's chiding brought a giggle to Kurumu's lips while she walked up to her friends.
"Like you and Tsukune aren't constantly breaking that little rule. I can see those fangs of yours."
"It's not our fault that our powers are way too hard to suppress without the Rosary! Hopefully, Fang-Fang and Yukari will figure out how to make a good limiter for us soon, though. "
"Oh? You're getting a new rosary? Didn't we go through hell last time to repair it only for it to break in the last moment?" She started walking with the duo, falling into step with them easily. It was a routine they ran through daily, after all. Mizore was going to be stuck back in her dorm today, something about it being too hot for her to survive outside her dorm's high powered Air Conditioning for the day.
"Well, for one, the new limiters aren't going to be as hard to make. Remember, Moka's old one did like a thousand things all in one. These will just have to limit our power to easily managed levels. I'm tired of accidentally snapping pencils in my hand! Splinters hurt!" Tsukune ended the words with a whine while Moka slapped the back of his head.
"Why are you getting pierced by wood chips? Your skin alone should be tougher than that!" Tsukune blushed at the admonishment while shaking his head.
"I crush them in my hand and then press the bits of wood into my palm unintentionally, ok?" As they fell into a small, flirty argument. Kurumu smiled before suddenly walking forward and leaning to whisper into Moka's ear.
"You may have won, but we are going to have private cooking lessons, alright? I refuse to have Tsukune eat half-burnt meals for the rest of his life. He deserves better than that." Then she suddenly turned around and presented the man with her bag of cookies. "Here ya go, Tsukune! The official last batch of Kurumu's special cookies! Make sure you savor them, cause you aren't getting any more after today."
"What? W-why?" Kurumu wanted to imagine that there was some disappointment in his voice, maybe there was. She was a wonder in the kitchen after all, but she knew it was more surprise than anything.
"Well, that's obvious, right? You shouldn't be accepting a gift like that from a girl when you have your girlfriend right there with you." She motioned to Moka with a devious smirk watching as they erupted into cherry pink.
"G-girlfriend? I wouldn't...I wouldn't dare say that!" Tsukune gulped, looking more nervous about Moka's reaction to that than outright refusing the prospect. For her part, Moka was silently steaming, looking up at Tsukune with puppy dog eyes before shaking her head.
"Really? Because you two are pretty obvious with it all...Always have been, I suppose." Kurumu then turned, not a single tear forming in her eyes this time as she left the stuttering young couple alone in their embarrassment. Looking back fondly at them, yes. Tsukune was certainly her first love, and this was a battle she had lost handily. Kurumu huffed at the thought, as if there was ever a chance for her in the first place. Either way, that didn't mean he had to be her last or only love. She could move on. Because losing either of those stupid Vampires as friends, well, she didn't want to imagine what would happen to her then.
