As the hour ticked closer to them leaving the room grew quieter and quieter. The courthouse was only ten minutes away, they were due there at 10am. Matt finally broke the silence at 9.40am and suggested they made a move just incase there was traffic. Once they arrived they meet with Antonio and his team, he'd arranged for them to sit in a side room so they were more comfortable.

"It's just over here" he told them, opening the door "Gabby, Shay you won't be allowed into the courtroom until it's time for you to give your testimony's. Matt you can come in whenever" they all nodded to let him know they understood.

Gabby sank into one of the arm chairs in the room, while Matt poured himself a drink for the water cooler. Shay put the tv on and started to flick through the channels.

"Anyway I've got to go in, you ok sis?"

Matt looked at Antonio, "I'll look after them don't worry."

With that Antonio left them to it. Matt sank into the chair next to Gabby and put his arm around her. Two hours they waited to be called before eventually a courtroom assistant came in and said "Gabriela Dawson?" She nodded, "their ready for you."

Gabby got up following the young girl to where she needed to be, Matt gave her a kiss and entered through the main doors while she went to the side door and entered into the witness stand.

"Please state your name for the court."

"Gabriela Dawson." She whispered.

"I'm sorry can you speak up."

Gabby's eyes darted around the room searching for Matt, when she saw him he was smiling at her and mouthed "it's ok, I'm here."

"Sorry. My name is Gabriela Dawson." she spoke trying to keep her voice calm and hands from shaking.

They went through all the formalities of court before the judge asked Gabby to recall what had happened on the evening of January 20th 2014.

"I'd been off work for four days due to concussion I had sustained in a fire. My best friend Shay suggested a girls night so we decided to grab pizza and head to a club afterwards. We went to Margo's as that's where we usually go. Everything was great we were dancing and having a laugh, then two guys approached us and asked if they could buy us a drink. Matt could feel anger rise up in him, how dare he accuse her of bringing this on herself. It took all his strength not to stand up and shout at him across the court room. Gabby however seemed to stay calm and answered clearly, "no! I was very clear in my intentions of being left alone. I told him twice and pushed him away."

"My client says you offered your breasts to him, asking if he liked how they felt. Is this true Miss Dawson."

"Very well. Please tell me about what happened when you left the club?"

I noticed I had some texts and missed calls from my fiancé, so while Shay ordered us an Uber and we headed outside I text him back to say we were heading home and I'd see him soon. "So your saying you didn't see my client hit you."

"Yes, I mean no I didn't see him hit me but plenty of other people did."

"So maybe you passed out, after all it was only four days since you'd suffered concussion. Did you faint Miss Dawson?"

"No, I was hit from behind." Gabby was getting angry now. How could he defend a monster like Mr Pratt, this guy had not only attacked her but several other innocent girls and he was just sat there smuggly.

Matt stared at Gabby trying to judge what was going on in her head, the defense lawyer was drilling her hard, and she was so fragile at the moment, if he pushed too hard he may break her completely.

"Are you sure Miss Dawson?"

"Yes! I had bruising and lasaractions to the back of my head. Surely you have read the doctors report on my injuries?"

"Miss Dawson, how can you say it was my client though. You did not see who attacked you."

Gabby sighed "I can't."

Matt felt crushed, had the defense lawyer just got her to say the exact thing he needed her to say? After all they were relying on eye witness accounts as the CCTV pointed in the opposite direction.

"No more questions your honour."

"Miss Dawson you may step down" the judge said.

Gabby walked towards the exit door to her right and collapsed on the first bench she found outside. Her whole body was shaking, she buried her face in her hands and let out a shaking sob.

"Gabby are you ok?" Matt wrapped his arms around her tightly as Antonio came bolting out of the court room behind him.

Matt looked at him concerned "what happens now, didn't that lawyer just get exactly the answer he needed to say his client is innocent?" Antonio shook his head and nodded for Matt to move over to the side.

"Look" he whispered "I'm not going to lie, there is a chance he can try that. But we have many witnesses, he's banged to rights on three of the charges but Gabby's case and the two other girls are more complex, there's no DNA trace. Whatever happens he's going down." Matt nodded and opened his mouth to speak only to be interrupted by the courthouse assistance lady again.

"I'm really sorry to interrupt but they are breaking for lunch and I thought it may be best if Miss Dawson was back in the side room before they all come out."

"Thanks" Matt said before turning to Gabby "come on baby let's get you back in there." He took one side and Antonio the other as they half guided, half carried her through to the side room. Her legs had appeared to become complete jelly. They placed her down in one of the chairs and Matt got her some water. "You really did do great in there baby."

Gabby nodded and drank some water before turning her attention to the tv. She wasn't really watching but it was a good distraction to what was running through her head right now.

"What happened in there?" Shay said looking between all three of them. "She looks like she's taken ten rounds"

"The defense lawyer is tough" Matt said.

"He's just doing his job but he did give her a good grilling." Antonio added.

Gabby turned to look at Matt "I'm starving!" Matt looked shocked, she hadn't really eaten since the attack but now she was starving.

"I saw a food truck outside, what do you fancy?"

"Anything" she said.

"Ok. Shay you hungry?"

"I could eat" she said.

Matt turned to Antonio "you good here while I go?"

"Sure."

Matt left the building just as squad 3 pulled up outside.

"Casey?" Severide shouted, shocked to see him outside the courtroom instead of inside. "What's going on? You good?"

"Hey, yea just grabbing some food." He replied "walk with me."

Severide nodded, and signalled to the rest of squad where he was going. "So what's going on in there?"

"Well Gabby just gave her testimony. Shays up after lunch."

"And?"

"And it went ok, Gabby did amazing. But the defense lawyers a jerk. How he can defend that son of a bitch..." he clenched his fists tight struggling to hold back the urge to hit something. Matt explained to Severide what had happened during Gabby's testimony and how he thought it might hurt the case they had against him. "I just hope Shays testimony and the other witnesses help. I don't know what I'll do if he gets away with it."

Severide knew what he meant, the whole firehouse felt it. One of there own had been hurt, attacked by this monster and here was some guy defending him and trying to blame the victims, it was infuriating. "Look, there's nothing you can do but let them know your there for them, especially Dawson. He can't convince everyone when so many people are saying the opposite." He placed a reassuring hand on Matts shoulder. "Now what you guys having, I'm buying."

Six hours later court recessed for the day, both Shay and Gabby had given their testimonies as well as all other witnesses from the night, and the two indecent assault victims. All evidence has been laid out and all that was left to do was for the jury to come to a verdict, the judge had said court would reside at 9am the next morning.

At 9am the next morning they were all sat inside courtroom number five awaiting the verdict against Mr Pratt, Gabby hadn't slept well at all last night, in fact Matt was sure she hadn't had more than an hour, when she did settle it wasn't for long and her screams filled the apartment once more. He just hoped that they had done everything they could to make sure no charge was missed.

At 9.30am the jury reentered the courtroom, ready to deliver their decision.

"People of the jury have you reached a decision." The judge asked.

"On three counts of rape how do you find the defendant"

"Mr Pratt lastly" the judge continued "you have been found guilty of GBH with intent, not only did you attack Miss Dawson but you then lied trying to convince anyone who would listen that she had led you on. You have shown no remorse at all during the run up to this hearing or during the statements given. I sentence you to five additional years imprisonment. Totalling 45 years imprisonment with no chance of parole.

Matt signalled to Shay to help Gabby up from her side and they both left the courtroom.
