"Wait!" Alexander took two steps into the next shadow. But Sans had vanished. "That's it?" Alexander shouted into the hall, "He lectures us but doesn't fight?"

"Alexander." Aaron already stood at the far end of the hall. "He's gone. Let's ride."

Alexander turned back. Aaron's footsteps faded away. It was a beautiful day outside. Sunlight streamed in through the stained glass windows. The sanctity of the hall, bathed in gold...it reminded him of taking the children to church on Sunday.

"Eliza, you'd like it up here. It's quiet up here." Eyes closed, Alexander bowed his head and clasped his hands, like Eliza did everyday (and would do everyday for the rest of her long, long life). "Just let me return there by your side. That would be enough."

"Alexander!" Aaron's voice drifted from the next room. "I'm not waiting for you!"

An exhale. The hall was empty once again.
