Sunday had gone by uneventfully enough for Brianna as they unpacked more of their old home into their new one. As Monday morning rolled around Conner was kissing her goodbye before she was even fully awake. "I have an early morning meeting babe. I love you." Brianna waved at him tossing the tangled sheets from her sweating body. Another dream had plagued her last night leaving her in a foul mood. She was being chased by a pack of wolfs that were hunting her. Her morning drug on as she continued to shake sleep from her eyes walking into her new office building. Smiling faces greeted her as her new coworkers glanced up from their desks before burying their heads back into work. A small plucky woman popped her head out of the office to her right. "Miss Miller?" "That's me!" The woman stepped out and stole her hand from its side shaking it firmly. "Nice to meet you, I am Mavis Moore. You can just call me Mavis though." "Brianna." "Nice to meet you Brianna. Please come in so we can talk." Mavis led her through the doorway into a fairly spacious office. "This will be your office Brianna. Please." She gestured for her to take a seat next to her as she sat in one of the plush chairs in the corner. "So new town! How was your move? You excited or stressed about moving into a new office? Why the sudden change?"
Brianna was floored by all the questions bubbling up out of her new coworker. "Um ya. It was a good move. My boyfriend moved jobs with his company and um ya I'm excited about being here." "Oh! So, you have a boyfriend? What is he like? Is he cute?" She had to chuckle at the woman sitting across from her. "Ya he is pretty cute. I don't know he is sweet and treats me well. Oh! He's a programmer at a tech company here in Boulder, hense the move." Brianna thought she saw a tightness stretch across Mavis's face as she spoke about Conner, but it was only for a moment. Then her bubbly demeaner was back in force telling her about the office and who everyone was. Apparently, she was the office manager and her husband ran the firm. Though it was weird because instead of husband she called him her mate, but maybe it's like a cute nickname for soulmate. She did talk about him with a reverence Brianna had never seen. "So, have you met your boyfriends pack yet?" Brianna cocked her head to the side a little confused on the vernacular. "I'm not sure if he has a pack yet. I know he has been meeting up with the guys in the office on the regular. He knew a few of them from his visits here. Though I am sure that soon enough they will be inseparable. Where we used to live, we went to so many family gatherings." Mavis squinted her eyes at her looking like she was filled to the brim with questions. "I know you need to get to work Brianna, but do you have time to go to grab a drink after work? My treat!" "Sure! I will message Conner about being late. I'm sure he won't mind in the slightest." With a wave she was out of the office letting Brianna get settled.
Cases stacked along her desk as she rifled through organizing as she went. Coworkers would come in to introduce themselves before dropping of more files for her to peruse. By the end of the day she could feel herself craving another one of those scotches. "How are things in here?" A deep demanding voice roused her from the last page of a document. Looking up she sees a looming figure in a suit. Mavis stood just too his right beaming at her. This must be her husband. Brianna quickly stood walking out from her desk to shake his hand. Damn he has a firm grip! Brianna thought to herself "Good evening Mr. Moore." "I am sorry I wasn't able to great you this morning when you arrived. I have been in depositions all day." "Of course! You are a busy man and while a I would have been honored by a greeting from you, I loved being able to talk to your lovely wife here this morning." Brianna got the sudden urge to bow for some reason. It's probably the fact that he looked more like a king the way he towered over her. "My mate says you two will be going to grab drinks. Do you have anywhere planned yet?" There was that nickname again. It's kind of cute if she was being honest. Brianna just shook her head as Mavis pipped up. "I was thinking Cursed Thirst around the corner." Mr. Moore turned to his wife and stared at her for a good moment before wishing them a good night. He leaned down and whispered something into her ear that made her belt out a melodic laugh before answering. "Of course, dear. I will see you at home in a few hours."
The two decided to walk since it was less than a block and the breeze felt good after a long day stuck in an office. "So, were you able to check out the area before? Do you know where we are going?" "ya. I went there on Saturday when I came to see the offices. It's a nice place." Brianna felt herself blush as she thought of the bartender. She really needed to get a hold of herself. There were a few people in the bar and they all yelled a greeting to Mavis as they entered. "Seems like you are here a lot." Mavis let out another one of her laughs and nodded her head. "We know the owner very well. He's like a brother to Lawrence, my husband, they are in the same pack." "Who would have thought a lawyer at a top firm would be close friends with a bar owner." Brianna joked as they took a booth near the bar. She had already glanced around and didn't see Spence anywhere. It actually made her a little sad which was weird. She was so focused on looking for Spence she didn't see the look that darted across Mavis's face. The look of intention. "Looking for someone in particular?" Brianna blushed again. "Oh...well when I came here Saturday there was a bartender who gave me a drink I really liked and I don't know what it was. I was hoping to ask." A warm breath came along her ear as a drink was placed on the coaster in front of her. "All you need to do is ask."
A shiver trickled down her spine to where heat also began to grow again. "Spence...good to see you again." Mavis said in a cheerful tone but her eyes were daggers. Spence stayed bent near Brianna as he leaned on the table. She was having a hard time focusing on their conversation as the heat radiating off his body. "I don't think I actually got your name the other day beautiful." Spence had pulled away so he could look her directly in the eyes. She felt his heat leave her and found herself missing it. "Brianna..." She whispered as he reached to shake her hand. It took all her power to lift hers up in return. Sparks danced across her skin and the pressure built along her core. She felt her legs begin to shift trying to reposition the slightly damp underwear she was wearing. Spence's jaw tightened as his eyes watched her suck in her lip. She knew if Mavis wasn't sitting right there, he would have leaned over and taken her lips for his own. And oh, how she would have enjoyed it. Their eyes locked as Spence took a step closer to the table still not releasing her now sweaty palm. Luckily someone came over and patted Spence on the shoulder to get his attention. He did not seem to like it one bit though, and it sounded again like a growl. "Thanks for the drinks Spence. I think that Pam is looking for you though." Mavis spoke up drawing us attention and giving him a very pointed stare.
As Spence left them Brianna took a burning gulp of the drink in front of her before speaking. "Thanks. That got really intense for some reason." Mavis waved a hand sipping on her own martini. "No problem Hun. Spence can get really intense sometimes. Anyways let's talk more about you." Mavis began to bombard her with questions again as Brianna tried to answer them as quickly as she could. Though one question made her stumble. "So, where is your family from." "Honestly I don't really know. I was adopted at a really young age. My parents were found dead in a cottage in North Dakota. Someone had heard me crying when they passed by. The police assumed it had been a day or two. No one had any information about who my parents were so they couldn't even find the rest of my family. I was about three at the time. It seemed like an animal attack but who knows." She took a sip from her drink letting the story settle in. "I have two great adoptive parents though. But not too much family for either of them. It was actually pretty hard for me to move because of that. But one night I was lying on the grass after a fight with Conner about not wanting to move, and it just hit me. For some reason I needed to be in Boulder. We packed up the next day and moved. Pretty suddenly actually." Brianna was now staring at the melted ice in her glass. Spence had not been back to fill up her drink yet and it rolled around as she tilted to check for more liquid. A tear started to form in her eyes but she quickly wiped it away. "Wow! I'm sorry Brianna. I didn't think about that being such a hard question." She was a little choked up but she managed to let out a laugh. "It's fine. Not many people can say they have a past like mine so that's good at least. Hey where's..." A drink replaces her empty one as Spence darted back behind the bar. The ice was a little melted in this one too.
Conner was asleep when she got home and not wanting to wake him, she slipped out of her clothes and into bed beside him. Her dreams were a little different tonight, a lot less frightening. Lips danced across her neck as she gripped his firm shoulders. She could feel him pressed against her heat as she surged her hips towards him. His name danced along her tongue as she moaned and whimpered. His strokes long and firm taking everything she gave him. As he finished in her a single word slipped from his lips bringing her to climax under him "Mate". She woke up to Conner kissing her goodbye again in the morning but the only thing on her mind was the name ringing in her brain. The name she had screamed over and over in her dreams. Spence.
"My Luna! You are home! Oh, how I missed you. How was your date with the She-wolf? Was Spence, right? Is she in the other pack?" Mavis shook her head trying to wrap her head around the evening she had with Brianna. "What's wrong my love?" Lawrences face was filled with worry. "Did she say something to you? Did she threaten you?" A low growl filled his throat as he thought of that she-wolf doing anything to upset his mate, but he felt her calming hand along his face and the anger receded. "We have a problem dear. I think that Spence is bonded to her." Lawrence's face lit up for a moment before it dropped. "No that can't happen. She is with another wolf. And not just any wolf. A wolf from my cousin's pack. This will not go over well." "That's not the biggest problem we have." "He didn't mate her, did he?! I will kill him!" The anger surged again before seeing the sorrow on his mate's face. "She doesn't know Lawrence." Confusion filled him. "She doesn't know what love?" "That she's a wolf."
Spence paced around his living room pulling his hair from his head. His Alpha had been sitting on his door step bottle in hand when he arrived home. Spence was thrilled until he saw the look on his face. How could she not know?! How was it not eating her away inside?! How had he never told her...the rage brought on by that pushed Spence's fist through the wall. She is a wolf; her boyfriend is a wolf. How could he not tell her? She never knew of her family. They had surely been killed by another pack. Why their Alpha had let that happen he would never know. The rage over someone trying to kill his female at such a young age made another hole appear in his wall. He wanted to hold her. To sooth her. He had smelt her tears from across the bar and it made him weak. He knew it wasn't right. He knew that he could never be with her as long as she was involved with their rival pack. But his wolf didn't care. Mine. He wanted to sooth her so bad, he wanted to bring her into his arms and just hold her. Suddenly his pants were tight along his hips. Too tight. Stripping himself down to nothing Spence found a light relief once more as he drifted to his dreams of Brianna.
