"The captain of the royal guard is merciless." Aaron's voice was breathy from exertion and awe.
"Well." Alexander gritted his teeth through a barrage. "Hate the sin, lover the sinner." His eyes widened. "Burr—"
"Got it." He raised his shield, cutting off the yellow dart darting from the other side.
The one-eyed captain leers, sharp teeth glinting with the spearlight in the gloom.
"She's past patiently waitin'—"
"She's laughing in the face of casualties and sorrow." Alexander picked up where Aaron left off. "For the first time, our SOULs let her think past tomorrow."
"So she is not throwing away her shot." Aaron grabbed Alexander, and they raced toward Hotland.
Later, Alexander stood over an unconscious Undyne, face unscrutable. "She's got a hunger," he murmured, "I was just like her when I was younger."
Aaron couldn't tell if heartbreak or pride was the word he was looking for.
